STV English clubs express interest in midfield ace Hull, QPR and West Bromwich Albion ready to move for Hamilton’s James McArthur. Hamilton’s James McArthur could be set for a move south of the border in January after three English clubs expressed an interest in snapping up the 22-year old. With the highly-rated youngster under contract until 2011 a transfer fee of at least £400,000 could be required to land the player’s signature. McArthur is said to be ready to move from New Douglas Park if the right club comes in and manager Billy Reid has said that he would not stand in the player’s way. However, with three clubs vying to sign the former Scotland Under-21 cap, Hamilton will hold out for the best fee possible and hope that a bidding war develops. The midfielder broke into Hamilton’s first team in 2005 and established himself as a regular starting player. McArthur quickly caught the eye alongside Brian Easton and James McCarthy but has stayed at the club as Easton and McCarthy have moved to English Premier League sides Burnley and Wigan. The player's stay at New Douglas Park could be set to come to an end now with the three English clubs considering bids. Hull City could offer the chance for McArthur to play in the English Premier League this season while West Bromwich Albion are among the favourites to win promotion to the top flight this season. QPR are currently four points off the playoff places in the English Championship and the London club, backed by billionaire Flavio Briatore, could match any transfer fee quoted by Hamilton. Hamilton manager Reid has said that he would love to see the player continue to turn out for Accies but accepted that a move was likely. Speaking last month he said it was possible that the club would accept a bid for the player in January. "I'd love him to see out his contract for the next 18 months,” he said. "But James has a desire to play on the bigger stage and if the chance comes up to leave in January and the deal is right we won't stop him." If McArthur moves south he could add to the growing ranks of Scottish midfielders making a splash in England this season. Barry Ferguson, Charlie Adam, Robert Snodgrass and Graham Dorrans have all turned in impressive performances this year after making recent moves. STV - Hamilton’s McArthur ready for English move McArthur: “I’ll go down there and have a belief that I can make an impact on the English game.” 07 January 2010 James McArthur says he is ready for step up as West Bromwich Albion, QPR and Hull consider bids. The 22-year-old has generated a lot of interest south of the border and says it is only a matter of time before he takes his football career to the next level. “You don’t know what’s round the corner. At this point in time I’m happy to be a Hamilton player,” said McArthur. However, the striker admitted he would welcome a move to a bigger club south of the border. “I’m not going to lie, I would like a move to be honest. I’ve served a long time at Hamilton Accies and I’ve done the best that I could for Hamilton Accies. Ronnie McDonald and the gaffer [Billy Reid] have been tremendous with me and brought my game on so much. “But I want to play at the highest level that I can and if that comes this [transfer] window, next window, any window then I would need to sit down and talk about it.” Hamilton boss Billy Reid confirmed that there have been several clubs in contact with the Lanarkshire side about McArthur, who is confident of success in the English leagues. “I’ll go down there and have a belief that I can make an impact on the English game.” McArthur also had words of encouragement for former team mate James McCarthy who has not played many matches for Wigan since his high profile move last year. “James hasn’t had a game until Saturday there and he’s come in, got a goal and got Man of the Match. Hopefully he’ll get his chance now and play most games.” Last updated: 07 January 2010, 08:35 sport.stv.tv/football/148539-hamiltons-mcarthur-ready-for-english-move/

This is the kind of transfer Rangers use to make, lower league/Scottish with potential, some worked out some didn't but it spawned the Sinclairs, Ferdinands, Parkers & Sintons

Yes...And given our four year plan, exactly what we should have been doing for the past three seasons Add this Reid hails departing McArthur www.sportbox.tv/football/news/story.php?id=300893 7th, Jan 2010 Hamilton Academical manager Billy Reid has accepted that midfield star James McArthur is set to leave the club this month. The 22-year-old is reportedly a target for the likes of Hull City, West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers, with Reid praising his player to the hilt. He told The Herald: "I think there's dialogue between certain clubs and the chairman; I don't have anything to do with that. "It'll be a huge loss if James leaves, but the deal has always been that if somebody comes in and the offer is acceptable to the club, then we're not going to stand in his way. "If anybody's earned the right to move, it's James. His attitude and application since I came to the club has been second to none. "I can't speak any more highly of him." www.sportbox.tv/football/news/story.php?id=300893

Evening Times Friday 8 January 2010 No offers yet for Hamilton ace McArthur McArthur is man in demand Bert Mitchell and Alison McConnell HAMILTON chairman Ronnie MacDonald has confirmed Accies have had no “written or verbal” bids for star asset James McArthur. West Bromwich Albion and Hull City are both known to be keeping tabs on the New Douglas Park playmaker with a view to making imminent bids, while SportTimes understands Queens Park Rangers will watch the 22-year-old on Sunday if Accies’ Scottish Cup fourth-round tie with Rangers goes ahead. But MacDonald said: “At present we have had no written or verbal bids for James and I would reiterate we are in no rush to sell James. “What has mattered to Hamilton Accies all along is that the next move for James is the right one for him – and not just the right one financially. “But at this stage, although we know there will be a lot of clubs represented in the stand on Sunday, should the game go ahead, there is nothing further to say at this moment in time.” It is believed QPR manager Paul Hart will attempt to test Accies’ resolve to keep the former Scotland Under-21 international with a bid of around £350,000.But Accies are under no pressure to sell having raked in over £1.5million from the transfers of James McCarthy and Brian Easton to Wigan Athletic and Burnley. The New Douglas Park side are also unlikely to be impressed by any offers of less than £500,000 for a player who has flourished in the SPL in just his second season at the top level in Scot-land and is also the club’s stand-in captain. McArthur’s Accies midfield team-mate, former Leicester City star James Wesolowski, has no doubt the Scot would flourish in the Championship. He said: “James has all the attributes to make a success of himself wherever he goes, if he moves on. He is as good as any midfielder I have played with and although he is obviously very skilful, he also has a tremendous work-rate.” Meanwhile, Accies boss Billy Reid is crossing his fingers that the cup meeting with Rangers does, indeed, survive the elements. There will be a pitch inspection at New Douglas Park this morning, but Accies have spent the week ensuring both the pitch and the approach to the stadium have been cleared of snow and ice. With TV cameras due to roll into Hamilton for Sunday’s game, the match would carry a welcome windfall for the club, but aside from the financial aspects, there is also the matter of fixture congestion to contend with, should it fail to beat the weather. Reid said: “We are doing everything we can to make sure the game goes ahead. This is a big game for us and everyone has been looking forward to it. “Apart from anything else, we are now looking at playing a lot of games in a very short space of time, which comes with obvious difficulties. “We do not have a big squad and we have to hope we don’t get too many injuries or suspensions because it could really have a big impact.” Assuming the game goes ahead, Reid will look to make home advantage count. But the Ibrox side will have Kenny Miller back after suspension. Reid said: “We didn’t really get a look-in when we played them last year, but I think we have improved a bit since then and when you are on your own patch, then you just never know. “But Rangers have been flying and they will have Kenny Miller back – his partnership with Kris Boyd is fantastic and we will have to do what we can to keep them quiet, because they’ve been scoring goals for fun.” www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks-ignore/no-offers-yet-for-hamilton-ace-mcarthur-1.997080

Yes, this is the type of Transfer we used to excel at, where are the type of staff these days whom used to have this talent for spotting such potential. Better doing this than signing some 33-37 year old. Only exception I can recall that was a success was Furballs.

Strathclyde Police met with officials from both clubs and determined spectators would be able to enter and leave the stadium safely. The pitch is also perfectly playable, meaning the televised game should go ahead as planned at 12.15pm, although a sADVERTISEMENTtatement on Rangers' website said "police will continue to monitor the situation between now and kick-off". With so many games called off, scouts are likely to be in attendance at New Douglas Park to run the rule over Accies midfielder James McArthur. The home side's star player has been linked with a move to Hull City but he believes he is more likely to end up in the Coca-Cola Championship. Two clubs from that division, West Brom and QPR, are also reportedly keen on the 22-year-old, who said: "I don't think I'll go to the Premier League, if I'm being honest. "If a club came in for me in the Championship, I'd be more than delighted to go down there and maybe play every week." McArthur has watched former Accies team-mates James McCarthy and Brian Easton get almost no game time since their respective moves to Wigan and Burley last summer. However, he was pleased to see winger McCarthy make the most of a rare start in Wigan's FA Cup win over Hull last weekend. "I speak to him (McCarthy) all the time," McArthur said. "He got his chance on Saturday and he was man of the match and scored a goal. "You just need the manager to take a chance on you." The match against the holders is the third time Hamilton have drawn Rangers in a cup competition in the last two seasons, and the odds favour the visitors this weekend. Rangers have steamrollered teams in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League in recent weeks. McArthur said: "They're a top-class side, they're scoring five, six, seven against teams right now. "So we need to just try to make sure that we stop them playing first and foremost. "They cannot just keep winning. They're going to slip up one of these times and hopefully on Sunday, this is going to be a time that they're going to slip up." The youngster is confident of avoiding a cup hammering. "I feel it'll be a really close game. "When Rangers and Celtic come here, we don't concede many goals and they don't beat us by many." Meanwhile, Hamilton have signed former Hibernian full-back David van Zanten. The 27-year-old, who was released by Hibs at the start of the season, has been playing with Morton for the past two months. But the Irishman is cup-tied and not eligible to play in the Scottish Cup for Accies. sport.scotsman.com/football/McArthur-still-dreams-of-shock.5968834.jp

Hamilton knock back McArthur loan bid Accies reject offer from West Brom for star midfielder. 27 January 2010 sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/hamilton/153265-hamilton-knock-back-mcarthur-loan-bid/Hamilton have rejected a bid from West Bromwich Albion for midfielder James McArthur. The club confirmed that the Championship side had made a move to snap up the player on loan with a view to making the transfer permanent in the future. The club confirmed the bid in a statement following Hamilton’s match with Kilmarnock in the SPL on Tuesday night. The game finished 0-0, with many Accies fans showing their displeasure at the result and directing their anger at manager Billy Reid. "We have today rejected a written offer from West Bromwich Albion FC for the transfer of James McArthur based on an initial loan agreement,” the official statement read. "West Brom have been informed of our decision and we thank them for their interest. To date, theirs is the only written offer received but we have had verbal interest noted by two English clubs. "As we have previously stated, we will not stand in the way of any of our players moving to a higher level. James has been a tremendous asset to our clubs and when he eventually leaves to further his career it will be with our best wishes." The other clubs interested in McArthur are believed to be Queens Park Rangers and Hull City. Hamilton boss Reid has accepted that the club will not be able to hang on to their star player but has insisted that any move will be on the club’s terms. McArthur has already declared his ambition to play at a higher level and has seen team-mates move south in the last year. Brian Easton sealed a move to Burnley last year while fellow midfielder James McCarthy made a switch to Wigan Athletic. The 22-year old said earlier this month that he was ready to follow Easton and McCarthy to the English leagues and that he felt he was ready to make an impact. He added that he was not demanding a move in this window and would continue to give his best for Hamilton until a firm offer was accepted. “I’m not going to lie, I would like a move to be honest,” he said. “I’ll go down there and have a belief that I can make an impact on the English game. “I’ve served a long time at Hamilton Accies and I’ve done the best that I could for Hamilton Accies. Ronnie McDonald and the gaffer [Billy Reid] have been tremendous with me and brought my game on so much. “But I want to play at the highest level that I can and if that comes this [transfer] window, next window, any window then I would need to sit down and talk about it.” sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/hamilton/153265-hamilton-knock-back-mcarthur-loan-bid/
