Robins shortlist down to twoBy PA Sport December 17, 2008 Swindon chief executive Nick Watkins has revealed the managerless League One club have whittled their shortlist down to two candidates and expect to make an appointment before Saturday. The Robins have been without a permanent manager for five weeks now, with Newcastle academy director Richard Money believed to be the leading contender for the position. Watkins said on the club's official website: " The two candidates we have been speaking to are currently in work. We hope to be in a position on Thursday to speak to the club concerned with a view to the selected candidate joining Swindon Town Football Club." He added: "Throughout the process we have at all times remained committed to identifying the candidate who, in our view, can take this club forward and who, over the next four to five years, can assist us in achieving our declared Championship objective. "The innate ability to manage, motivate, coach and inspire players, allied to first-hand experience of operating at League One or Championship level as a minimum, are essential attributes that the successful candidate must show."

On the other hand, never say never... BBC Swindon frustrated in manager bid Swindon Town chairman Andrew Fitton says he might have to start his search for the club's next manager again.
Fitton says the last few days have been frustrating, with the club close to appointing their chosen man.
But it had proved more difficult than originally anticipated to negotiate acceptable terms for the candidate to leave his current club, he explained.
BBC Radio Swindon understands the favoured man is Newcastle United academy director Richard Money.
In total, Swindon received around 50 applications for the post and interviewed about a dozen candidates - some several times.
They had hoped to have the new boss in place before Saturday's home game against Yeovil.
Fitton and the board of directors will now take a few days to consider their options, with potential new managers still becoming available.

And now apparently back to Speed. They should go for Holloway. He's G-d in my eyes! Gazette and Herald - Swindon to Speed back for veteran midfielder Swindon Town are said to be preparing a second approach for Gary Speed after Richard Money turned down the chance to become their manager. Sheffield United midfielder Speed, 39, is out injured for the rest of the season but believes a back operation will enable him to carry on playing. He has an offer to coach at United but is keen to start his managerial career. Swindon chairman Andrew Fitton said yesterday he has become frustrated after six weeks of trying to find the right man to replace Maurice Malpas. He was thought to have found his when Money apparently resigned his Newcastle coaching role but the compensation package is thought to have been one of the sticking points. Fitton is belived not to have given up on Money but Speed, and former Bristol City boss Danny Wilson, are still in the frame. He is believed to be ready to go back to Newcastle next week but will talk to Speed and Wilson in case a deal cannot be hammered out. Speed Said he has yet to have a discussion with Fitton. “I have not had any contact with Swindon. I am under contract with Sheffield United," he said. “Last week the manager said there had been a discussion with Swindon, but I have not heard anything else. “I hear that some people have already written off my playing days, but that is completely out of order. “I want to get back playing in a couple of months, not the six months everyone has been quoting.” www.gazetteandherald.co.uk/sport/swindontown/news/3992507.Swindon_to_Speed_back_for_veteran_midfielder/
