RANGERS opened their account for the year 2000 with a battling 1-0 success over relegation threatened Swindon, but they had to rely on the late, late show from Richard Langley.
The young midfielder popped up deep into injury-time to sweep the ball home and hand Rangers a precious three points that keeps them in the race for the play-offs.
The home side had keeper, Frank Talia, to thank for keeping the scoreline so close as he was consistently called upon to keep the R's at bay.
Twice in the first half, Talia had to be at his admirable best to keep out eventual match-winner, Langley, who tested the keeper with stinging efforts.
For the home side, young striker, McCammon, wasted a glorious opportunity to put his side in front, but he misjudged his header from just six yards out and the danger slipped away.
In the second half, Swindon attempted to pile on the pressure as they sought a much-needed victory, but despite several goalmouth scrambles, they rarely threatened to trouble the Rangers' goal.
At the opposite end of the field, Talia, was again called into action with a triple save to deny Gallen, Steiner and Langley from breaking the deadlock.
As the R's continued to press forward in search of the winner, striker Gallen was again in the thick of the action, but this time his powerful drive thundered off the underside of the crossbar.
The signs indicated that it was not going to be Rangers' day as Wardley saw his close range effort well saved by Talia.
With the clock ticking away, and the game seemingly heading for a stalemate, the R's threw everything forward in search of a last gasp winner.
Loan signing, Brian McGovern, burst down the right flank, and drilled the ball across the box, where Langley was on hand to guide the ball past the resilient Talia.
It is a triumph which keeps the R's snapping on the heels of the promotion chasers as they raised the curtain on the new Millennium with an excellent away victory.
