Any more details about his book ". I have been researching a book about QPR and no names mentioned a heavy percentage of players are self obsessed brats with real illusions of their own legacy."

Hi All, I'm Tel Currie and I hope all loyal Hoops are well? I know Rodney very well and Ian Morris who runs that amazing web site, allowed me a column which I enjoy.I will be sticking to facts, rather than take a biased out look and hope you enjoy some of the first hand stories I will be telling you. I'm not there to preach or stamp my foot, just enjoy writing. I have been a QPR fan since I was born, as many of us had it passed down to us. Loftus Road and Griffin Park were also a stones throw from my house. Tony Currie is a relative, so QPR it was for me. I got to know Stan Bowles at Rangers and Brentford, but I doubt he remembers as by his own admission "The drink has got a hold of me." i was supposed to meet him before the Sheffield game, but he completely forgot- a shame but then, he's alway's wanted to be George Best! Loyal supporters will know what Stan has constantly said about Rodney. Even saying " He should watch out!" implying 'The quality street gang' in Manchester. Now, if you have seen my other books, you will know my friends are leagues ahead in Underworld terms. Please check these links. www.apexpublishing.co.uk/PubDetails.asp?Num=198www.apexpublishing.co.uk/PubDetails.asp?Num=197www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_4_4?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=tel+currie&sprefix=TEl+www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=terry+currie&x=16&y=15Please understand, that's NOT giving it the 'BIG 'UN!', that's not my way, but it's upsetting to see Stan making a fool of himself, pretending he can get people shot when he can't! And why the hatred of Rodney? Who knows? The Gerry Francis thing, that was an extremely clever plan by the Chairman who stitched up Rodney and Gerry. As Rodney said to me "If that wasn't a set up, why didn't I take the Managers Job?" that's Stan's reason, but there will always be another! For Rodney's part, he honestly doesn't care, but has ALWAYS said "Stan was a great player." he is honestly not one for slagging off. His world is much larger than Stan's, but people always take Stan's side- Why? I don't know. Remember, I am talking about the different men, not comparing them on the pitch. My "Brats" comment simply came from the difference between trying to talk to newer players, compared to old, because a huge difference has been born in the way the two types of player look at US! and a lot of newer guys look down on us, where the older guys see us as one of them. And that sad fact, repeated itself over and over as I contacted players i'm afraid Yesterday, Rodney, Mark Lazarus and even Gary Waddock phoned me... a lot won't even answer an E mail- the divide is becoming them and us. So, I am just a bloke writing about a club he loves- I am nothing special. But QPR fan's together are! Thanks to genuine friends- Gavin Gurney, Ian Morris, Geoff Downs, Steve Collins & all at the Springbok, Francis Atkinson, Gary Waddock, Mark Lazarus and of course- ROD-NEEEEE! and Joanna. UP THE HOOPS!!!! Attachments:

Thanks lads, it's nice to be made so welcome... but that's QPR for you! Rodney won't post for a while, as he's back to Tampa at the weekend. If you have any questions, I will post Rodney or answer it myself if I already know the answer. If you want to make a Rodney thread, I will deal with your questions. I will be ignoring any abusive or stupid ones..... I think that's fair? They are good men in the photo (I have hundreds!!) They are Joey Pyle snr (THE BOSS), Roy 'Pretty Boy' Shaw (Bare knuckle champion, armed robber and former Broadmoor inmate. Get the book 'Pretty Boy' it's classic!, I'm there and Freddie Foreman AKA 'BROWN BREAD FRED' he killed a few, including Frank Mitchell for the Kray's. There's a photo of me and Fred in his book and loads in my book 'LEFT HOOKS and DANGEROUS CROOKS!' all close friends but Charlie Richardson (The Kray's were scared of the Richardson's that included 'Mad' Frankie Fraser.) is like my Dad now I have lost mine. But if you want to leave a reasonable amount of messages for Rodney on a new thread, I will get them answered. Of course, I like Stan too, but is it right that there is not a single T-shirt, Poster or ANYTHING of our first Star in the club shop? Not even a white shirt for the only trophy we ever won? but loads of Stan? Is it right there is NOTHING to remember our ONLY trophy lifting Captain Mike Keen? NOTHING!!!! Can you imagine that at West Ham or Chelsea? ONE Captain, ONE TROPHY and NO memorial, not even a T-Shirt!!!!! We are so passive, sometimes we have to fight! and some MARSH products and a memorial of Mike Keen- For his family, is what I need you to support me with. I asked on facebook for people to E mail me for a Mike Keen memorial petition..... I got one E mail- from a Chelsea fan!!!!!! Those at the top now no nothing of our heritage. FACTS- They changed our emblem without a word to the fans, they were going to do away with HOOPS all together, they are thinking of calling us 'QUEENS PARK CITY', THEY WANT TO MOVE THE STADIUM! This is no rubbish, I got this from inside the club! I refuse to wear the new stupid American emblem, Shop prices have doubled (120 quid for trainers, 12 quid for some grass- yes, grass!) not a single Rodney Marsh product!! I will fight on my own with my trusted pals for a memorial to our only cup lifting Captain. But I need your help to get Rodney products, and other Legends Francis, Currie, Wegerle, Allen, Fenwick, Clement, Venables, Ferdinand, Sinclair- There is NOTHING on ANY of them, only the current team. You can't even buy bottoms without buying a whole 70 quid track suit! look at other club shops. Some have a 'Legends and Icons' section! We have nothing but new stuff with that new emblem on it. Does anyone else care? I would love someone to try that at West Ham, Chelsea or even Brentford- they would burn the ground down!!!!!! That's our identity, but they want to make their OWN QPR and scrub the past. Some of it is even in print in 'Hooped Dreams' They don't even know we did the double in the 60's, this is no Jim Gregory here. They did the silver, gold and platinum areas, some of our old haunts were 50 quid!!!! I put it to them that if prices stay like that, it comes with 10 free drinks at the Springbok or a signed shirt. If anybody has the proper '60's shirt, with paler hoops, blue shoulders, long sleeves- 'THE RODNEY SHIRT'- in XL or XXL you don't want, please let me know. Lastly, why are we not tighter with the springbok? once a month, a former R's legend comes in, talks through highlights of his best game on a big screen, talks about his life, then Q&A. I have done it with boxers, but here we have an audience already across the Road, 2 posters are your outgoings. Book them 6 months in advance, the more you paid for the game, the less on the door- with a cap of 10 quid to pay the players. You could have Rodney, Les Allen and Mark Lazarus all going through the '67 League Cup? Gary Waddock and whoever going through the cup final on big screen, advertise in the shop & programme so you only get real fans. After the game, over to the pub for an 'Audience With'........ Does all this make sense? Am I talking crap? You tell me, but it's OUR CLUB!!! and the Springbock and club should be tightly linked with regular events from former R's, like Rod used to do with Bestie once a month? Good or Crap? Attachments:

Please Repost a link re the Mike Keen... I've noted in the past re how our club does nothing for the qpr men of yesterday...Not Mike Keen. Not a sick Frank Sibley... And the scores of others. Who served long and hard but weren't perhaps the international big names. Great that Bowles and Ferdinand and Francis are big heroes...But all the others... Marsh we'd all be interested in. He was posting here for a while/responding to questions (And he's actually at least theoretically, a moderator of this site ) It didn't happen (My fault: I let it slip through cracks, had some things), but a few months ago, he agreed to do an answer questions here)

Fantastic points all round, wasn't Mike Keen the captain in the 67 cup final? Having met Rodney thanks to Tel a few weeks ago, iv'e realised who had the genuine personality and who didn't even turn up. Stan has always been my personal favourite, but yet again he has let people down...

I'd love retired Rangers playes to attend and interact alot more, but because of the new regime this will be overlooked.... I know Dan Shittu and Rob Steiner still attend whenever they can.

I would happily back any campaign like that Terry, first I've heard of it though.
Totally agree on the current merchandising, that's for sure.

Agree with all of the very succinct points about us losing our heritage, this is not an opinion, this is happening RIGHT NOW before our very eyes.
The laughable new club crest, is, I believe a bigger deal than a lot of people realise, I've made my opinion known on the new merchandise situation many many times, my sister bought me one of the smart new training tops least season which would be a very stylish part of clobber if it wasnt for the unbelievably awful cheap & tacky new club crest on it, I wont wear it, because I feel like I am mugging myself off by displaying that joke of a badge, its an affront to our whole history.
We hear all this about what great Businessman these people are, but in my view merchandise sales would be a good 10-15% higher if they didnt have that God awful tacky club crest plastered all over it, its embarrassing, bring back our old badge, there was nothing wrong with it.
This is not the Rangers that we all grew up with, its sad to see, this club has a great history & heritage & was well respected & liked by fans of other clubs, we are on the brink of losing all of this.

KLR, You are bang on! Fabio said "We know all about sport, we have been in formula 1 for ages, so don't worry!" WHAT? So if i'm an expert on speedway, that means I know what is beloved and cherished to a certain "Soccer" Club? ? But for once, QPR fans are going to have to take action instead of talking. Everyone of us should write to these idiots..... ALL OF US! Change only comes through struggle, the fact they were going to call us 'Queens Park City' should fire a warning shot!!! They have admitted it's not their main business project, it's a cheap toy. But I think I speak for us all, when I say - we are working class, the only things that keeps us working our bits off all week in a place we hate, are family and meeting our pals on a Saturday to watch our beloved club, that we can't relate to like we used to!!! At one time, the crowd knew most of the boy's- People like Michael Meaker, I grew up with. A lot of the crowd were like that because we were all locals. We have never been one of those teams that people come to if they have not grown up with your Dad and Uncles going on about Rodney or Les Allen or the Morgan Twins. QPR was not even a choice for most of us, we never considered another team! Loftus Road was the one time of the week, you knew you were supposed to be there at that time. The rest of the week was dreaming you were somewhere or someone else! It was another home and the team were like 'The Lads!' Now we are like a product on a factory belt, another brick in the wall! Seeing that emblem on the stadium and Lotto and Gulf Air EVERYWHERE wipes those memories, we are at a different club, a corporate bomb that has blown all our memories. No legends in the shop, no legends on the pitch, a kit you feel like a sheep buying, with the men at the top not giving a toss and wondering where 3rd base and the pit stop is!!! Can you ever remember a time when we didn't have at least one hero on the pitch? Working class people cannot relate to the 'Club' OR for the first time ever, the team! The Working Class Heroes, that QPR seemed to breed like rabbits are no more, would you be overwhelmed meeting ANY of them- like you would with Rodney, Stan, Tony, Wegerle, or Ferdy? Is the 'HOLY' number 10 shirt still 'HOLY'?...... NO! For the first time in all these years, I wouldn't bother having my progamme signed. Jim Gregory was a 'MAVERICK' himself, that's why he treated Rodney and Stan like son's, these Miss-Directors know nothing about us and won't listen to anyone either, they think they know it all. Not one of them greeted Rodney when he came to the shop a while ago, he walked in and was left to it. Gavin on here will tell you, it was complete mayhem!!!!! It was like they had come to embrace someone from a better time, a time when players spoke to you and signed things, a time when you would mix with the players after a game in the pub.... imagine that now? I am going to write to them again, how many more will ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING to win the life and soul of a unique, proud club back? So people don't look at your badge and say, 'What team is that then?' like I have had a million times. Who is going to join me in winning 'OUR' Club's heritage back. Who's going to put them straight on our heritage so Mike Keen, Bobby Keetch, Peter Springett, Ray Jones, Dave Clement, Alec Stock and the other Hoops who have passed on and the living Legends like Gerry Francis who Captained England,(Imagine that now!) and all those players who went out NEVER to grind out a result, but to entertain us and give our money's worth..... HOW MANY WILL ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING? Attachments:

HOW MANY WILL ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING? "We have never been one of those teams that people come to if they have not grown up with your Dad and Uncles going on about Rodney or Les Allen or the Morgan Twins." This comment is absolutely spot on & the very reason that I & many others I feel are Rangers fans, I live over the other side of London, but my Dad is born & bred West London & Rangers through & through, I think my Dad saw every game that Rodney played for QPR, still 40 years later the respect & admiration he has for Rodney is incredible, my dad is 59, I think that kind of feelings for Rodney is completely commonplace amongst Rangers fans of my Dads generation. QPR is one of those clubs that is in the blood, passed down from Father to Son, I love the club, always have, always will. But under its current guise ? No, this is not the QPR we all have in our blood, of couse QPR is worth fighting for, its a great club with a great heritage & identity, we deserve better than this cheap, tacky, shoddy & classless operation we have become under the Italians regime.

I can't agree more! We are not the sort of club that has people who walk around in Hooped Shirts that live nowhere near the club and have never been to a game like MAN UTD. If you see somebody in a QPR top, they are usually supporters, it's not really a club you choose, which makes it a Proud little unit of REAL supporters and our Legends are usually exclusive to us! Men like Gary Waddock are not national hero's, but in our little tribe - they are Icon's! We have our own little World and unless you picked it up somewhere, it can't be explained. I feel that somebody has broken into my house and stolen all my things of sentimental value. It may be funny to some, but our Club has been raped by intruders!! And if we just sit back and watch, I promise you it will get worse!! Also, because they are trying to forget the past and make QPR PART 2- Our legends are not welcome. As I said, Rodney was left to figure it all out himself. He should of had the Chairman to greet him, but they were on him at the doorway! He should of been taken to the back room first, then announced. He didn't even get his coat off! And a touch of class would of been for the Chairman to present him with some engraved silverware on behalf of QPR for all he has done for the club. But it was Hell, I even had rare stuff he had signed stolen from under my nose as I talked to him! He said to me "F**king Hell Tel, they told me there would only be a few people and everything in place!" We got to the front because Joanna and Rodney saw us, it was a free for all! There was still hundred's of people waiting when he had to leave. And where were the Big Wigs? drinking pims and watching a Grand Prix with a high class call girl I think! Some probably blamed Rodney as usual, but he was treated as cattle like the rest of us! I thought Rod did a great job, but that's how Legends are treated. Ben Watson got better treatment at the other end of the Shop! My good pal Gavin had to tell me who he was!!! They should of put a nice set up of Rodney posters & montages around the area. Gav will tell you his version, in case you think i'm making it up! Attachments:

Don't forget Tel, we were told to queue somewhere else first where they print the names on shirts in the clubshop.... Right infront of an embarrassed Ben Watson, but why they had an on loan bloke signing memorabilia baffles me? ?? No announcement of Rodney's arrival and real disrespect for a local icon.
