And Sheff Ut should have a new defender, just in timeSheffield United Official Site Defender deal agreed Posted on: Wed 30 Dec 2009 The Blades are set to reinforce their squad ahead of Sunday FA Cup tie against QPR, with experienced Championship defender Marcel Seip expected to sign on loan until the end of the season from Plymouth Argyle. Seip has recently completed a successful loan stint at Blackpool, where he scored for the Tangerines in their 3-0 victory over the Blades at Bloomfield Road in October. During his time in Lancashire, the Dutchman started seven games for Ian Holloway's men, which added to his six appearances for the Pilgrims. The 27-year-old, who is comfortable in a number of positions across the backline, began his career in his native Holland with BV Veendam, before moving to SC Heerenveen in 2001. During his time at the Abe Lenstra Stadion, Seip played in the UEFA Cup and Intertoto Cup, before arriving at Home Park following an unsuccessful trial at Spartak Moscow. His deal at the Lane - which should be rubber-stamped on 1st January - will expire on 2nd May although United can extend the loan should they be involved in the play-offs. www.sufc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10418~1918484,00.html

The Sar (Sheffield) Sheffield United boss pays full respect to FA Cup : 01 January 2010 By James Shield KEVIN Blackwell has promised not to disrespect the FA Cup despite admitting promotion is the club's number one priority. The Sheffield United manager has expressed concerns about the depth of his squad following a spate of departures last month. Marcel Seip's arrival on loan from Plymouth Argyle, combined with negotiations involving "four or five" potential targets, has alleviated some of the pressure. Given the paucity of options at his disposal, Blackwell could be forgiven for viewing Sunday's third round tie against Queens Park Rangers as a irritating blot on the fixture calendar. But having experienced some spectacular highs in the competition, including United's march into the semi-finals during a spell as Neil Warnock's assistant seven years ago, Blackwell has promised supporters his side will be "giving absolutely everything" to try and progress. "It's a great competition and there's no way on earth I'd ever try and do it down," he said. "It's worth far more than that. We've had some great occasions in it down the years and we want to try and have some more of those again. "We'll be doing everything we can to try and reach the latter stages. "We want to go as far as we possibily can." Seip, the versatile Dutch defender, could be handed his United debut against the Londoners after agreeing to spend the remainder of the season in South Yorkshire while concerns over the fitness of Ian Bennett could see another loanee, Mark Bunn, continue in goal following Blackburn Rovers' decision to renew his temporary contract. Gary Naysmith, United's Scotland international, could also enter the equation after appearing on the bench during Monday's victory over Preston. Blackwell's charges climbed to seventh in the table following that match and with next weekend's visit to Watford looming on the horizon, he added: "Sometimes circumstances dictate the selections you make. "I'm not going to deny that but what I can promise is that we'll be putting a team out we think is capable of beating QPR." www.thestar.co.uk/sportheadlines/Sheffield-United-boss-pays-full.5950023.jp

Thanks Godfather And the QPR Official Site QPR Official Site FA CUP PREVIEW: THE BLADES Posted on: Sat 02 Jan 2010 The R's FA Cup journey begins in earnest with a trip to fellow Championship outfit Sheffield United tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon. Paul Hart's men travel to the Steel City for a 3.00pm kick-off, just a fortnight or so after meeting the Blades in the league at Loftus Road. The spoils were shared on that occasion, in a 1-1 draw, with Mikele Leigertwood notching for the R's against his former Club. Team NewsRangers will have to make changes for the trip to Bramall Lane, following the departures of Tommy Williams and Ben Watson, who have returned to Peterborough United and Wigan Athletic respectively. Gary Borrowdale could fill the void left by Williams following a recent abdominal strain, whilst Alejandro Faurlin is expected to return in the middle of the park. Mark Bunn's loan spell from Blackburn Rovers has been extended and he is expected to continue in goal for the Blades, whilst Marcel Seip could make his debut following his loan move from Plymouth Argyle. Star Man Jamie WARD (Striker) Jamie Ward completed his move to Sheffield United in January 2009. The diminutive striker cost the Blades £330,000 although the fee could eventually rise to £400,000. The 22 year-old left near neighbours Chesterfield to sign a three-and-a-half year contract at Bramall Lane, with the Northern Irish international (for whom he qualifies through his grandparents) opening his account for Kevin Blackwell's side in the dramatic 2-1 away victory at Southampton in the Coca-Cola Championship last season. A product of Aston Villa's youth academy, Ward joined Stockport County on loan before signing permanently for Torquay United in 2006. After a relatively successful spell at Plainmoor, Chesterfield shelled out £100,000 to secure the services of the pacy front man, where he went on to make 73 appearances, scoring 31 goals in all competitions. Ward's impressive strike rate and industrious approach made him a sought after commodity, and after rejecting Barnsley earlier in the month, the Birmingham-born forward opted to join United in January 2009. Classic Encounter Sheffield United 2, Queens Park Rangers 3 Coca Cola Championship - Saturday 25th February 2006 An inspiring performance from Rangers in a truly enthralling game saw the Super Hoops complete a season's double over the Blades. Goals from Marc Nygaard and Paul Furlong came either side of a Chris Morgan own goal in an end to end encounter. The first half was a game of swings and roundabouts, as United went in ahead, but only after Rangers had previously gone in front. Marc Nygaard had given Rangers the lead with just six minutes on the clock. But Ade Akinbiyi's header, followed by a Marc Bircham own goal, turned the game on its head before the break. In a battle of loyalty, Tony Currie also works for Sheffield UTD. If he came to Loftus Road with UTD, what welcome would he get?

Currie would be very welcome, I'm sure. He was at QPR in his last years (and then was released to go overseas)... And he was of course rejected by QPR as a youth player! (One of our few mistakes!)
