I was just looking at the Vital Football Portsmouth Site: What was said in the last few weeks, just prior to and after Paul Hart's sacking

Pompey confirm Hart sacking
No sooner had I put my article up, after texts and phone-calls, The Pompey Site confirmed that Paul Hart has indeed been sacked.
Like I said on the other article I am genuinely sorry for the guy, although in my heart of hearts I think it was coming and is probably the right call even if I am very surprised that we left it a couple of days after Stoke...
More surprising though are 'claims' that Avram Grant IS NOT taking over, with Darren Ferguson a name that is being pushed further forward?
The following statement was issued...

Hart Leaves Pompey
Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that Paul Hart has been relieved of his duties as first-team manager.
The decision has been made reluctantly by the board and is based on results that leave the club at the bottom of the Premier League.
Paul was offered the role of technical director, developing players from the ages of 18-21, but declined the position.
The club plans to announce a replacement very quickly and until that time the players will be led by first team coaches Paul Groves and Ian Woan.
Chief executive Peter Storrie said: "Paul has worked under very difficult circumstances with the financial restrictions the club has faced since he took over.
"However, the board feels that the team should have accrued more points to date and that we need a new man in charge to ensure Premier League survival.
"The board would like to thank Paul for his work not only in keeping the club in the Premier League last season but also for his time in charge of youth development.
"Paul is a man of great dignity and we hoped he would stay and help us develop younger players on the fringes of the first team. We are genuinely sad to see him leave. Everyone at the club wishes him well for the future."

Paul Hart moves on?
There is nothing 'official' on The Pompey Site but reports, originating from the BBC, 'claim' that Paul Hart has left Pompey...
BBC sport says: 'Portsmouth manager Paul Hart has left the club with immediate effect, BBC Sport understands.'
'If' this proves true then I will be genuinely sorry for the guy, although in my heart of hearts I think it was coming and is probably the right call. I am very surprised that we left it a couple of days after Stoke though...
Like I say I am sorry for him if true, and it has been a tough call but I think the writing was on the wall and from the looks of his face on Sunday after that defeat he knew it?

Webber and Macca on Hart's departure
Danny Webber, on Tuesday evening when talking to sky sports, became the first Pompey player to comment on Paul Hart's departure...
He said that he 'first heard of it on sky sports' and it came as a 'massive shock' to him as: 'Paul was at training today and everything was as normal as usual. I don't think any of the players saw this coming at all.'
I think that a 'few' probably did see it coming I am afraid Danny...
Webber also said: 'I am sad to hear Paul has gone as I myself and all the lads have been impressed with the work he was doing and how he conducted himself.
'I don't think anyone would have any bad words to say about him.'
Regardless as to who takes over, and lets make no bones about it they have a MIGHTY job on their hands, he says the squad will give them their full backing: 'I have no idea who the new manager will be, but they will inherit a good, hard-working squad that Paul has left them.
'Whoever the new manager will be it is guaranteed they will have 100 per cent backing from the squad as everyone is determined to climb up the table.'
Whatever we think of Hart, or the players, I do not think that any of us can doubt that they were very much on his side so lets just hope that this support was NOT just for the manager bus also for the club and the fans.
If so, lets also hope that this support will continue under the new manager - who can also 'hopefully' get a little more from them, not in terms of effort or commitment, we could not ask for more, but in terms of that final end product...
Another Pompey personality, we at least a former Pompey personality with an opinion was Alan McLoughlin.
He, like so many of us, was of the opinion that Hart has done just about all he could under extremely tough circumstance but 'things haven't gone great recently. It's about staying in the Premier League and obviously the club feels now that a change is needed.'
Macca would go for Avram Grant himself, so it 'surprises him' that Grant is 'apparently' out of the equation: 'I'm quite surprised that Avram Grant does not seem to be in the equation to take over as manager. Paul has done as best as he can but the team hasn't got that cutting edge and it's a points game.
'The players have done the best they can for him. There was a unity and strong bond between the players and Paul but sometimes in professional football it doesn't gel and it just hasn't worked recently.'
He also feels that 'there will be takers out there and I suspect the club will go for experience, someone who has got a Premiership pedigree' as 'there's only one way to go and that's up.'
I sincerely hope that there are 'takers' out there for this job, and we ARE in a position to think about this long enough to ensure that we make the right appointment, with us not having to think 'cheap' or 'easy' - and we can think 'right' about it.
Although in all honesty some of the names that I might 'prefer' are almost certainly names that are beyond us...

Paul Hart says Farewell!
As expected Paul Hart has rejected the post of Technical Director after being relieved of the post of First Team manager.
In a statement released to Sky Sports News Hart said 'I would like at this time to thank all of the supporters and players for the backing they have given during my time at Portsmouth Football Club. The speed of recent events, though, has been somewhat surprising and I am naturally disappointed not to be able to continue in the role at Portsmouth Football Club."
Unfortunately I do not believe that having been the manager of Portsmouth Football Club I will be able to return to the youth-team role that has been offered to me by the club and it is with deep regret that my time with Portsmouth Football Club has now come to an end. However, I look forward to a return to management in the near future.'
Certainly that was to be inevitable as it would be almost impossible for Hart to work under a new manager and perhaps illustrates that the move should have been made in the summer when he was still a caretaker but of course other events at that time prevented it.
So another chapter in Pompey's long history closes and all we should say is 'thanks for your efforts Paul and good luck for the future.'
