(Assuming we still have any ) [Sorry for the Harsh title. I'm sure they're not. But ...] Are they unable to find players who are not already names in the Premiership? Are they aware there is also a League One and a League Two. Of course I'm basing my mini-tirade on WATRB speculation about incoming players: And all Premiership. [And just to tie the two threads together: The thread about Middlesbrough's very fine youth development qprreport.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=908

Don't think they will sell that many half-season tickets or boxes unless they make the right noises as far as intentions are concerned. The 'information' that gets 'leaked' is always positive. I've yet to hear that we are looking at someone in the lower leagues, so yes the scouts seem to be totally incompetent. No-one has come up thru the youth team ranks in ages, Balanta aside, and this is something the club need to look at. Are we going to be self-sufficient through high prices so we can afford Premiership rejects on large wages or do we keep prices realistic and invest in youth, on not so large wages!? Only one way to go for me, buy them young and cheap so we can sell on for a profit, until we are making enough money to hold on to them. Firm foundations are what we need and even though I've heard that from Flavio, I've yet to see any proof of that.

Whatever the intentions of the hierarchy has been regarding youth team players it looks as though the situation about development will be forced upon them if and when the new regulations over " home grown" players is passed.
Not a single member of the present first team squad came through the ranks at QPR and not one of them was signed before they were aged twentyone. ( Angelo Balanta is out on loan at Wycombe.)
Just as in many premier league sides the general attitude is to buy a "ready made." Need a player? Cheaper in Africa - Eastern Europe - anywhere. Fill in the place of origin as required.
After the years of neglect pointed out by markqpr we have only four young pro's left at the club. This from a side who won the Puma Youth League two years on the run.
These young players are getting few games at QPR and having to look for loan situations to try and further their careers.
The definition of "home grown." How about Danny Maguire - been at the club since he was eight years old - a total of eleven years. That certainly looks like a QPR product!

It obviously precedes Briatore (but under Paladini/Gregory) two years ago today, Michael Knightly made his Wolves debut, on loan from Grays.... Obviously we should be looking in this league. Obviously we should be looking in League Two and League One and Ireland etc, etc, etc. Apart from lower transfer fees, these lower division players, moving up, will presumably accept lower wages than these Premiership players, moving down.

Ricky Lambert.
Echo you though Report, do we have any scouts now?
I just wish the bluster of Briatore when he arrived was demonstrated at Harlington with a covered playing surface for starters with steps towards regaining Academy status. Also, statements from the club asserting this desire.
Started to sound like a broken record now.

Its difficult to say about Borrowdale until he plays some games but the thinking was right we did need cover in that position. I also think that our scouts do not earn their corn, there must be players in the lower divisions worth a try.
