The first 10 seconds of that video, my god. Wish I'd got to see him do that kinda stuff in the flesh. Magic. March 4, 1998 - The Match Report: QPR 5 Middlesbrough 0Sporting Life QPR 5 Middlesbrough 0 Middlesbrough's hopes of automatic promotion were dealt another blow at Loftus Road as they were simply blown away by QPR. Bryan Robson's boys were determined to bounce back against lowly QPR after their 4-0 thrashing at Nottingham Forest on Sunday but a devastating spell of four goals in 13 first-half minutes sent them packing. On 32 minutes Rangers snatched the lead with a freak goal. Mark Kennedy's cross looked like being easily cleared by defender Steve Vickers but his swipe at the ball saw it hook behind him and over Andy Dibble's head into the net. That seemed to spur Rangers and five minutes later it was two in equally bizarre circumstances. Early substitute Paul Bruce hit a ball in from the left touchline which took a slight deflection and flew into the top corner. There was no fluke about the third a minute later. Kennedy's superb 30-yard pass found Kevin Gallen who rounded the keeper before expertly shooting through a crowd of players. Mike Sheron grabbed the fourth right on half time when Gallen nipped the ball through for him to curl a shot past Dibble from 20 yards. Robson took off Michael Thomas, Nigel Pearson and Craig Hignett at half-time, bringing on Mikkel Beck and Alun Armstrong to form a four-man attack. It was a bold move and it almost paid off a minute into the second half when Paul Merson's corner was headed on by Beck only for David Bardsley to head it against the crossbar and away. They soon paid for their adventure though when Rangers grabbed a fifth on 53 minutes. Kennedy got down the left and his cross was perfect for Sheron to head home his second goal. The frustration was setting in for Boro and on 64 minutes Andy Townsend paid the price. Just 20 seconds after being booked for a tussle with Gallen he tripped Nigel Quashie and the referee gave him his second yellow card. Rangers threatened to run riot and man of the match Kennedy, as well as Bruce and Sheron, had shots well saved while all Boro had to offer were long-range efforts from Beck and Merson which flew over the bar. It was the first time this season that Boro have lost two games on the trot in the league and the Coca-Cola Cup finalists will now be looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack. Teams: QPR: Harper, Bardsley, Morrow, Kulcsar, Ready, Yates, Perry (Bruce 7), Quashie (Heinola 89), Sheron, Gallen (Slade 83), Kennedy. Booked: Yates, Gallen. Liverpool have called Kennedy back due to Robbie Fowler’s injury and the fact that they only have Riedle and Owen as recognized forwards. Rangers chief executive Clive Berlin says:"Unfortunately this is disappointing news. Liverpool felt they must have Mark Kennedy back immediately as he is their only recognized forward cover. "Both myself and Ray Harford had been in contact with Liverpool trying to persuade them otherwise. We wanted to extend Kennedy’s loan or to purchase him outright. We offered a substantial sum of money, but at the end it really didn’t come down to price. "Liverpool confirmed to me that there are three other clubs who have also shown an interest in Mark, but that we will have first refusal should the situation change. Mark has also confirmed that he would be more than happy to stay with Rangers if that situation should change. "So we have tried everything we can and we will continue to try, but unfortunately Mark returns to Liverpool today."

QPR Official Site THE FRIDAY PREVIEW: BORO Posted on: Fri 04 Dec 2009 The R's play host to Middlesbrough at Loftus Road this weekend, as the play-off race heats up in the Coca Cola Championship. Jim Magilton's men currently occupy fifth spot in the second tier, but such is the competitiveness of the division, Saturday's opponents Boro' - who lie in tenth position - are just two points adrift of the Hoops. Gordon Strachan is yet to enjoy a victory at the helm of his new Club, but Boro' appear to be showing signs of improvement in recent weeks and Rangers will have to be at their very best to stifle the threat of the Tessiders' attacking threat, which includes former Premier League duo Dave Kitson and Leroy Lita. Article continues Advertisement MPU Team News Blackburn Rovers loanee Steven Reid has been ruled out owing to a hamstring injury, whilst Matt Connolly is rated doubtful for the visit of Boro' to W12. The former Arsenal defender is struggling with a pelvic injury. Angelo Balanta is back in full training following a recent groin problem, but won't be risked at the weekend. Meanwhile, Jim Magilton is still without a quartet of First Team regulars. Gavin Mahon (knee), Rowan Vine (groin), Martin Rowlands (knee) and Lee Cook (knee) all remain sidelined. Gary O'Neil looks certain to return to the Boro' starting line-up after recovering from the groin injury that ruled him out of last weekend's 2-2 draw against rock-bottom Peterborough United. Marcus Bent could also feature following a minor knock. Star Man Sean ST LEDGER - Defender Boro' completed the signing of Preston defender Sean St Ledger on a three-month loan with a possible permanent deal to follow in January. The 24 year-old was Player of the Year for the Lilywhites last season and has earned a fine reputation during a career that has taken him from Peterborough to Preston and into the Republic of Ireland squad. After making 79 league appearances for Peterborough, he joined Preston in 2006, where he has gone on to play another 130 league games, scoring seven goals. He made his full international debut against Nigeria in May and was part of the Eire side that bowed out at the Play-Off stage at the hands of Thierry Henry and co. last month. A reliable defender on his day, St Ledger is also capable of pitching in with the odd goal too. Indeed, he has two to his name in the red and white of the Teessiders so far this season. Pre-match Talk R's midfielder Adel Taarabt: "When you get into football, it's these sort of matches that you want to play in. "I am really looking forward to it. I think it will be a very good game. "We're at home, so this is an important one for us." Boro' defender Sean St Ledger: "Loftus Road is always a tough place to go with the fans very close to the pitch. "It's another tough away game, but we'll be looking to get three points." Rowan Vine (hernia) remains sidelined and youngster Angelo Balanta is back in training but will not be included yet. Middlesbrough are hoping striker Marcus Bent shakes off a knock in time to play at Loftus Road. Gary O'Neil is expected to return after missing last weekend's draw at Peterborough with a groin injury. Middlesbrough have not won in five matches, are yet to win since Gordon Strachan's appointment as boss, and have never won at QPR. Yet the omens are still good for Boro ahead of their fifth game under Strachan, who claimed his first victories as manager of Coventry and Southampton in his fifth match in charge of those clubs. Three wins in a row in October helped QPR climb the table into the top six, but Jim Magilton's side have since found victories harder to come by. Rangers have won only one of their last five matches and their defending in Saturday's 2-2 draw at home to Coventry left Magilton furious. But they are still fifth and will almost certainly move up a place if they claim three points this weekend. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • These clubs are meeting for the first time since QPR thrashed Middlesbrough 5-0 at Loftus Road in March 1998. 606: DEBATE Have your say on this match • Boro have drawn eight and lost eight of their previous 16 league visits to QPR. Queens Park Rangers • Their current tally of 28 points after 18 matches makes this QPR's best start to a league season for five years. • Rangers are one of three teams to have scored in all their home games in the Championship this season. Middlesbrough • Boro's tally of 26 points after 18 matches is the club's best start to a league season for five years. • They have scored 17 goals away from home this season - just one short of West Brom's total, which is the best in the Championship. Good to see Clement sticking one in there as well. Isn't it apparent how the goal celebrations have changed over the years.
