QPR Official Site EXCLUSIVE: WILLIAMS PENS DEAL
Posted on: Mon 09 Nov 2009 Rangers have swooped to bring Peterborough United left-back Tommy Williams to Loftus Road on a short term loan deal.
The 29 year-old - who enjoyed two loan spells in W12 earlier in his career - has put pen to paper on a deal until Saturday 4th January 2010.
Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, R's gaffer Jim Magilton expressed his delight at bringing the attacking full-back to the Club, commenting: "When we heard that Tommy might be available on loan, there was no holding us back. "To be fair, Gianni (Paladini) has worked wonders to get it done so quickly and we couldn't be more delighted to bring in a player of his calibre and experience." Williams, whose contract at London Road expires this summer, revealed his joy at penning a short-term deal. "I'm really excited," he told www.qpr.co.uk. "I enjoyed my time here previously and I can't wait to pull on the jersey and hopefully cement my place in the side." Williams added: "There's a very strong squad of players here, but the Club's ambitions match my own and I genuinely believe we can build on the fantastic start the lads have made to the season." Under the terms of the deal, Williams is eligible to play in the FA Cup, as long as QPR and Peterborough avoid each other in the third round draw. www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1870742,00.html Peterbrough Official SiteWilliams Rejoins Queens Park RangersPosted on: Mon 09 Nov 2009 Peterborough United left-back Tom Williams has joined Coca-Cola Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers on-loan until 4th January 2010. The experienced full-back will join the Hoops for a second spell after a loan stint at Loftus Road in the 2002-2003 campaign. Williams will be eligible to play in the FA Cup, but will be unable to play for QPR if they are drawn to face Posh. Williams has been suffering with an ankle injury of late, but is close to full fitness. www.theposh.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10427~1870863,00.html

Should say I'm well chuffed.
But only because Yrag gives me bloody nightmares.

It does seem strange, but I trust the manager / assistant managers judgement!??!

Seems to me to be more of a positive move more than anything else. Oh Gary, Gary has a stomach bug and we have to play a player out of position in order to cover him. Oh Gary, Gary himself is not entirely good enough to be our first choice left back and our inability, for whatever reason, not to sign the Argentinian lad has landed him that role off the back off a bizarre signing due to our bizarre handling of our managers last season. So far this season we have been moving forward with the first team and the management/coach set up seems to be comfortable with their position within the QPR structure bought in by the new owners who in turn seem to be taking a less hands on approach than last year. If this is a result of Parejo's ill judged signing, Alberti's failure to get into the first team so far and DiCarmine's goal return leading to our owners to be more trusting in people like Gorman and now resulting in players like Faurlin, then by all indications from the information offered then I am pleased and excited by this signing. Williams is a left back for a start, exactly what we need for a change. It's a short term loan which highlights the fact that we need a left back and will seek to get one in January. Williams might be the stop gap until the Argentian left back arrives in January and if so great. We are light in that area and this goes some way to redressing that. Hopefully the owners will see that players like Pelicori are too big a risk to take at the moment and that players who have experience in this league are more beneficial to us right now. The idea that Gorman can spot both long term prospects such as Faurlin and short term loans like Williams when we need them and then the club gets them only bodes well for the first team in the future. Good news!

I don't tihnk it's strange, he's a million times better at left back than yrag and he can get forward and sometimes he can pass instead of shoot! Great move by Gianni, displace the bloke he gave three year deal to! Perhaps the "stomach upset" is something a tad worse for poor yrag. Edit: What Marky Mark said as well. ;D

Jim Magilton/Official Site 'IT WAS A NO BRAINER!'Posted on: Mon 09 Nov 2009 Jim Magilton believes the addition of Tommy Williams will add further competition for places in the R's squad, heading into a hectic period of fixtures leading up to Christmas. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, the Rangers gaffer said: "I just felt we needed a bit more competition in that department. "It's no reflection on Gary Borrowdale or Peter Ramage, who have both played in that left back position for us this season, but when a player of Tommy's quality becomes available, it's too good an opportunity to turn down. "It was a no brainer in that respect." The R's boss added: "He's got a quality left foot and as he showed here earlier in the season, he's got decent pace and a great delivery from wide areas. "It's a short term deal initially, but he's out of contract in the summer and he's got a great opportunity to impress us." www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1870880,00.html?

Jim; Gianini, Yrag is getting murdered on the pitch every game he is simply not good enough, I need some one else.
GP; Jim I understand your worries, I will have a look for one after I find out if Simon will send home those stupid twin instead of that hottie Lucie.
Jim; Ok I like your style- god I hope the twin stay, they are irish and sound just like me.
GP; Bye bye lucie. Right I have done some research and it would appear that tommy williams is available. He is supposed to be alright, I don't think he is injured. But the most important thing is that he is married to a former page 3 model. That should keep flav happy.
Jim; Wow gianni you are on fire, thanks for the research and I can't believe how quickly you managed to wrap that one up. I will be sure to mention it in my interview. I guess the team at the bottom of the league must really not think they need a quality at this moment.
GP; oh by the way there's a slice in it for you ;-)

It might be competition for Yrag but I wouldn't call it an improvement!

Why not? He was the best player on the pitch against us and set up their goal.

If he is that good, why would a team at the bottom of the league let him go out on loan?
We may have to agree to disagree on this one, as I do not see this as an improvement.

Perhaps because he is in the last year of his contract, won't sign a new one, they are desperate to ensure they get money for him rather than go on a free.
Wouldn't be the first loan we have taken recently having agreed a purchase at the same time, would it.
Just a thought.
I certainly think he is an improvement on Borrowdale but if he's as good and a natural left back then it has to be better than sticking poor Ramage out there doesn't it?

Personally fighting for championship status with the best available players would be my priority, but then I suppose this is why I'm not a manager, chairman or sporting director!
I hope he does turn out better than yrag, but I do not reckon he is the best option out there.

Now wait a minute, Yrag was good enough to play every minute of every match until his sore throat. Suddenly a new ones coming?
Is Yrag sicker, Was Yrag played and we are in 4th place. If Yrag hadnt played would we have been in 1st place, or 13th place.
I cannot make sense of it, but I will defer to my friend Mark who feels yrag isnt good enough. But then, oh well right last year he was sent out.. Oh yes whoi s the Argentinian back who is late , or whats that story. Does the right back know what the left back is doing on this team, or I mean the right hand.........

It is undeniably strange, even moreso if he is actually injured & here on a 2 month loan spell ?!
But, he is one of their better players, he can cross better than any of our "Full Backs" currently at the club, he can take set pieces, etc, with a note of caution, I will say it is a step in the right direction, still wish we had signed the young Dutch boy from Chelsea, but there you go.

Better than we have but the words "stop gap" come to mind. He can cross (even though he didn't) and defend better than Borrowdale.

Better than what we have is probably accurate! But after all these Premiership star loans, interesting we're doing this.

Dave McIntyre referred to him in his BBC606 piece last week The Heat is off (for now) QPR by David McIntyre - BBC Sport (U1628513) 06 November 2009 With Tom Heaton due to return to Manchester United, Rangers may need to bring in another keeper on a short-term loan. Heaton’s three-month spell at Loftus Road finishes after this weekend’s game against Sheffield Wednesday. Rangers will look to bring him back, possibly on loan until the end of the season, but are unlikely to be able to do so before January and are preparing to be without him during the interim period. He is expected to return for a second loan stint – unless a small fee for his permanent signing can be agreed. Heaton’s contract at Old Trafford expires next summer. But as he will still be under 24, he will not be available on a Bosman free transfer, and any club that signs him without agreeing a deal with United could be ordered by a tribunal to pay a fee. His departure could leave Jim Magilton lacking cover for Radek Cerny, so a number of possible options for a short-term signing are being considered. Talking of cover, a left-back seemed an obvious requirement before the season started. Ironically for a man frozen out by Paulo Sousa last term, Gary Borrowdale is the only outfield player to have played in every minute of every QPR league match this season. [ b]Top of the list to replace or compete with him has been Argentine left-sided player Lucas Licht, who is currently with Spanish club Getafe.
In August he looked to be on his way to QPR, but the move did not materialise.
The 28-year-old is said to have an Italian passport, which ought to make signing him easier.
But his contract situation is unclear and a number of other clubs appear to be interested in him. Where his future lies seems to be anyone’s guess at the moment.
Rangers were previously confident of getting their man. So much so that they pulled out of a deal to sign teenage left-back Patrick van Aanholt on loan from Chelsea, and he joined Coventry instead.[/b][/u] That left Matt Connolly as the only (arguably) viable alternative to Borrowdale. Connolly being hit by glandular fever left Rangers open to a real problem were Borrowdale to become unavailable. The good news for them is that fears Connolly could be out for months rather than weeks have been allayed. He returned to full training this week and should be back in action soon, although glandular fever is unpredictable and can become a long-term health issue. I know. I had it years ago and am still affected by it from time to time. Some times more than others, it has to be said. Ever seen Fawlty Towers, when Basil’s getting flak so clutches the leg that’s supposedly got shrapnel in it? I’ve found that post-glandular fever syndrome, as it’s called, can strike just as suddenly. In all seriousness, for a professional sportsman in particular, the illness is no joke. Several footballers have felt the after-effects long after having the actual illness; a prime example being Marc Bircham, who was laid low from time to time during his Rangers career. I hope Connolly now goes from strength to strength. He’s a good player and a fine prospect - but definitely not a left-back. www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A59312964

Thanks Mike. But this team must have more pride. Fighting for promotion, another loaner. Go out and buy a hot shot prospect, young, well thought of, adequateley scouted. Why this scrounging around. We can afford to shop at Harrods, not the stuff they throw away on Portobello Rd.

Maybe we can't afford it. We certainly haven't spent much on transfers in the past 18 months. And we signed some relative drek

Maybe it's outside the tranfer window so we can't sign anyone.
Unless they are a free agent obviously.
