Ostensibly (I thought it was Coppell's!) The Agus - Gregory fancies Albion job 8:30am Thursday 5th November 2009 John Gregory wants to be Albion’s new manager. The former Aston Villa, Derby and QPR boss has been out of the game for two years. But the former Seagulls midfielder would jump at the chance of a return following the sacking of Russell Slade on Sunday. A source close to the ex-England midfielder said: “John still feels he has got a lot more to offer and would really be excited by the challenge of managing Brighton. He’s missed the training ground big-time. “His two years out have given him a chance to take a breather so he can come back a better manager. He believes you get better and better as you get older, that you never stop learning. He’s as hungry as ever.” Gregory, 55, has also managed Portsmouth, Plymouth and Wycombe. He has been working as a pundit. www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/albionnews/4721076.Gregory_fancies_Albion_job/

Good luck to him. I think he would do very well if given the chance.

Quite right zed, would have been nice to see that chance given at Rangers!!! The five players signed, legs etc, were all identified by him and someone else reaped the benefit.

Yup. Hypothetical of course, but I think we would be in the Prem now if we had stuck with Gregory.

Ditto. I didn't want him when he joined, but changed my mind. If you'd given Gregory the money we've spent in the past two years on players/wages/fired coaches, I think he'd have spent it far better. (And he seemed to have Paladini under HIS thumb! )

BBC
Coppell not in Brighton running Former Reading boss Steve Coppell has ruled himself out of contention for the vacant managerial role at Brighton.
The 54-year-old had been the favourite to take on the job at the Withdean Stadium following the dismissal of Russell Slade in early November.
But Albion chairman Tony Bloom told the Brighton Argus: "Steve was one of the first names to spring to mind, and he would have been a leading candidate.
"But on initial contact he ruled himself out."
Bloom added: "He is enjoying his time out of the game, after leaving Reading last summer, and I think only a very high profile job could tempt him back into football at this time."
Director of football Martin Hinshelwood will still be in charge for Saturday's FA Cup tie at Wycombe.
Broom added: "We have had a high number of quality applicants, and have now refined the shortlist and will continue with the process of evaluating and interviewing the leading contenders."
Coppell's decision will come as a disappointment to Seagull striker Nicky Forster, who played under the former Manchester United winger at Reading, and had expressed a desire to work again with his former boss.
"I admire and respect him not only as a coach but as a person as well. He speaks a lot of sense on and off the field." Forster had told BBC Sussex on Thursday.
"He's an intelligent man and has a proven track record. I think he would be a good acquisition for the club."
