Past QPR-Sheffield Wednesday games I recall: Well definitely a couple of convincing QPR victories in 1971 and 1972 I think. "Total Football" by Jago's QPR.
And an 8-2 League Cup smashing of Wednesday (we were 2-0 up...Then 2-2...Then 8-2) in 1974. Then again, I think we were smashed 7-1 in the mid-80s with Gavin Peacock getting our only goal
And past connections: Off the top: Ron Spingett...Vic Mobley...Peter Springett...Bannister...Bolder...McCulloch..

South Yorkshire Star Rivalry gives Owls extra incentive - By Paul Thompson Sheffield Wednesday WEDNESDAY'S rivalry with United will be an extra incentive for the Owls when they face QPR at Hillsborough on Saturday. Brian Laws's men lead the Blades on goal difference but he knows that Wednesday fans will want to see their team move further ahead. "If things are not going as well as either club would like, then one of the things that supporters home in on is the rivalry in the table between the clubs," he said. "We've got the edge at the moment and we'll be trying to put a run together to extend our lead. "If we win on Saturday we can extend it for another fortnight, because there's the international break coming up. "It's an incentive, but first and foremost, we have to concentrate on what we do and hopefully continue the good form that we have shown at home. "Getting a good away result, like we did at Bristol City last Saturday, does give you an awful lot of confidence, instead of us putting pressure on ourselves." If Wednesday win, United would stay level on points with them if they win at Barnsley on Monday, but to take the lead in the table would also need to eradicate the goal-difference disadvantage, which is currently two goals. Laws said that captain Darren Purse is still under the weather; Michael Gray, who has had a hamstring injury as well as the bug, may not be ready for Saturday but should definitely be OK for the trip to Ipswich on November 21. Mark Beevers (illness), Sean McAllister (illness), Etienne Esajas (neck) and Richard Wood (ankle) are expected to be available for Saturday, and it is hoped that Tommy Miller (illness) will make it. Meanwhile, Coventry have bolstered an injury-hit squad by signing defender Leon Barnett on loan from West Brom but it is understood that they still want Wood as well, besides chasing another striker and a midfield player. www.thestar.co.uk/sportheadlines/Rivalry-gives-Owls-extra-incentive.5797255.jp

London Informer Top scorer will be man to watch Nov 5 2009 London Informer PAUL THOMPSON from the Sheffield Star gives his lowdown on Saturday's clash between QPR and Sheffield Wednesday. What's the score going to be and why? I've got a hunch for 2-2, as both teams are capable of scoring goals, but Wednesday are so unpredictable that I would not put money on the outcome. It could be anything. Who's the danger man to QPR? Marcus Tudgay is a clever player and a key influence. He links play, is brilliant in the air for one not exceptionally tall, and can finish. He was top scorer last season with a career-best total of 14, and has six so far this season. Are recent results reflective of Sheffield Wednesday's form? Yes. They have been conceding too many goals through basic shortcomings, and nine conceded in four games up to last week's match at Bristol City tells the story - but they were much improved in a 1-1 draw there. Are there any players with scores to settle? I can't think of any. Who is Wednesday's hard man/men? I don't think they have anyone who could be styled as a hard man. Lewis Buxton is physically very strong but fair, and James O'Connor is one of those little midfield grafters who loves to get stuck in. Probable line-up? Almost impossible to say, as seven players were ill or injured for the Bristol City game. Laws was reduced to 'Plan F' there, to use his words. It could be Saturday before he knows his line-up. If players are coming back fit, does he change the side after an improved performance? I don't know. Anyone injured/suspended? The seven who were unfit last Saturday were winger Michael Gray, centre-halves Darren Purse (captain), Mark Beevers and Richard Wood, striker Akpo Sodje, midfielder Sean McAllister and winger Etienne Esajas. Tommy Miller played and Francis Jeffers was on the bench, although both were beginning to feel the bug, and Darren Potter and James O'Connor played, having just recovered. What are the 'vibes' from Wednesday's camp going into the game? They expect a tough match against a side who generally have been going well in recent weeks. But the Owls are confident, as they have more than matched promotion contenders in some of their games this season. They are usually strong at home and should have beaten Bristol City away last week. They also see this as an opportunity to sign off with a home win before the next international break. Where are the best pubs/chip shops near the game that will serve Rangers fans? There are loads of food outlets on the main road (Middlewood Road) just above the ground where the tram runs. I'm not sure about pubs. I think the nearest one, the Park Hotel, may be home fans only - this isn't a question I've ever faced before! www.londoninformer.co.uk/london-sport/london-football/london-qpr/2009/11/05/top-scorer-will-be-man-to-watch-113489-25093143/

It would make a blinding screenplay but names would need to be changed to protect the innocent. We could combine tales, the trolleybus livened up between Hillsborough and Leppings Lane Great day, the brizzle score being flashed up, blinding. ;D We could do a belated report for Report, a fan's memories malarkey.

Sheffield Wednesday Official Site
Owls expect cracking clash High-flying Queens Park Rangers visit Hillsborough on Saturday and the Owls are eagerly anticipating what should be a cracking Championship clash.
Wednesday and the R's are amongst the big hitters in terms of net location this season, sitting joint-sixth and third respectively. Throw into the mix the fact that both managers - Brian Laws and ex-Owl Jim Magilton - advocate pacy, attacking football and all the ingredients are in place for an S6 thriller. Laws said: "Saturday's game will pitch two sides together who on their day are amongst the most entertaining teams in the Championship. I can certainly see goals in this game. Both ourselves and QPR are very attack-minded, we both try to stick to our footballing principles, so both sets of fans could be in for a real treat. "As ever, I am urging our supporters to come down to Hillsborough on Saturday and get behind the team. We performed ever so well at Bristol City last week, I was really pleased with the players and like I said after the game, if anything I was disappointed that we didn't take all three points from a team occupying one of the play-off places. "I want us to take the confidence we gained from that game into Saturday against another play-off team and put on an excellent display in front of our own supporters. "It will be three weeks before our next home game after Queens Park Rangers, so hopefully we can expect a good attendance and a cracking game of football plus three points for us to take into the international break." As the manager said, the QPR match is the only home game for Sheffield Wednesday in the next three weeks so be sure to get your ticket - visit www.swfc.co.uk/tickets www.swfc.co.uk/page/News/0,,10304~1867075,00.html?

And that 8-2 Win over Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup was 36 years ago today... November 6, 1973. Gordon Jago's QPR in their first season back in Division One, were doing well As I recall we really didn't play that well. Wasn't that kind of game. - Two own goals, Francis, Bowles, Givens 2 , Leach 2 Parkes Clement Mancini McClintock Hazell Venables Francis Leach Thomas Bowles Givens Busby Then in the next round we had a pretty easy game at home to Third Division Plymouth...Unfortunately!

Another one I wasn't at: But right after we beat Ipswich in our-first ever First Division win in 1968.69, we then went on to beat Sheff Wed. Only time that season (four wins total) we won games back to back.
And was at Loftus Road in August 1971 to see season opener - QPR beat Tommy Craig-at Wednesday 3-0
