Football League
STAT ATTACK – ASSISTS
It's the scorers who steal the headlines and usually take all the credit but today we take a look at the often unsung heroes, those who have been the providers of so many goals in the Coca-Cola Football League.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Queens Park Rangers have scored 12 goals in their last three games, with four apiece against Preston North End, Reading and Derby County so it's no surprise that one of their wingers currently top the assists chart.
Wayne Routledge has provided eight goals so far this season and has also scored six, although three of them did come in the Carling Cup against Exeter City.
Cardiff City's Chris Burke is currently second with six assists, while West Bromwich Albion's Graham Dorrans has five. Another player with five is Tommy Smith, who actually left Championship side Watford in August, to sign for Portsmouth.
LEAGUE 1
Yeovil Town's Andy Welsh currently leads the way in League 1, with seven assists to his name so far, while Southampton striker Rickie Lambert is a close second.
The 24-year-old has been in excellent form since moving from Bristol Rovers in August, he's already scored nine goals for the Saints as well as providing six more for his team-mates.
Jonjo Shelvey of Charlton, Norwich City's Simon Lappin and Swindon Town midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern all currently have five assists to their name.
LEAGUE 2
There have been plenty of goals scored in Coca-Cola League 2 so far and they have been spread right throughout the division, just as the assists are with five players currently joint top of the table.
Bradford City midfielder James O'Brien is enjoying an excellent first season in senior football. So far he's made just nine league starts but he's already provided five assists and one goal, the opener in the 5-4 win at Cheltenham Town.
Notts County midfielder Ben Davies is another player enjoying a good start to the season after moving from Shrewsbury Town in the summer. He's also provided five assists so far, as well as scoring three goals of his own.
Morecambe's Ian Craney, Nicky Law of Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town midfielder Kevin McIntyre are the other players who have provided five goals so far.
