I guess that means that Lopez will be back for the QPR game. IF Swansea beat Doncaster...If QPR lose badly at Newcastle...BBC - Win can push Swansea on - Butler Tom Butler believes Swansea City can build on their impressive 2-1 victory at home to Sheffield United by winning away at Doncaster on Tuesday. Butler came off the bench to score the winner in only his second appearance since recovering from a hamstring operation on the eve of the new season. "We are going in the right direction with the last couple of performances," the 28-year-old told BBC Wales. "The important thing is we haven't been losing games." Saturday's win was the first at home this season and only their second in nine Championship outings. It has been a tough start for manager Paulo Sousa who has had to fill the void left by predecessor Roberto Martinez, who also took his back-room staff and top-scorer Jason Scotland with him to Wigan. Sousa has had to deal with a lack of goals and also a midfield crisis with Ferrie Bodde, Joe Allen and Darren Pratley missing most or all of the season through injury. On top of that, Leon Britton, Andrea Orlandi, Cedric van der Gun and Mark Gower have all suffered injuries. And Sousa's cause has not been helped by the sendings off of Nathan Dyer and Jordi Lopez against United who will sit out the visit to Doncaster. 606: DEBATE Give your thoughts on Swansea's chances at Doncaster "It's only one game bans so it's not the end of the world and I think we will have enough cover on Tuesday," said Butler who is hoping to take his chance with all the injuries and suspensions. "I've been out for six weeks and it's pretty frustrating because when a new manager comes in, you want to show him what you can do. "It's a slow process with the kind of injury I've had, given my history and I think the manager has been really good with me building me in. "I played more minutes than I did against Barnsley so to play some more minutes on Tuesday will be great. "We drew the last two and won this one so hopefully we can keep a bit of momentum going to Doncaster on Tuesday is another tough game away and hopefully we can get another result."

And Swansea InjuriesThis is South Wales - Sousa hit by midfield injuriesMonday, September 28, 2009, SWANSEA City have been hit by news that Joe Allen could be out of action for another three weeks — and are keeping their fingers crossed over Ferrie Bodde. Bodde was today waiting for the results of a scan on his knee after his first starting appearance in 10 months lasted just nine minutes. And Paulo Sousa will have fingers crossed that the Dutch playmaker can make a rapid return with selection problems mounting ahead of tomorrow's game at Doncaster. Sidelined by a hamstring injury on the opening day of the season, Allen returned in the goalless draw with Bristol City almost a fortnight ago but has now suffered what is being described as a setback which could sideline him until the middle of next month. And Sousa's concerns do not end there. Leon Britton is in a race to be fit for Doncaster after missing the win over Sheffield United because of an ingrowing toenail, part of which was removed on Saturday. Andrea Orlandi definitely misses the trip north and is doubtful for next weekend's clash with Queens Park Rangers after damaging a quad muscle in training. Cedric van der Gun, who has a similar complaint, has a chance of facing Doncaster while the likes of Darren Pratley and Tom Butler could be forced into starting by troubles elsewhere. Guillem Bauza, Albert Serran and Kris O'Leary are all out of action, while Nathan Dyer and Jordi Lopez will both serve one-match bans after being dismissed against the Blades. Fede Bessone is another worry after he limped off with a groin strain, but Marcos Painter should be available after a minor calf complaint. All eyes will be on Bodde today given the influence he can have on Swansea when fully fit. The 27-year-old was complaining at the weekend of pain around his left knee — the same one where he damaged the cruciate ligament last November. "The knee's okay," he said. "It was something on the side of my leg that was the problem, it's not nice but I'm happy we won. "It was on the outside of my thigh that goes down to my knee and I don't want to take any risks because the season is long so that's the reason I stepped out. "It's okay, I can still walk, I don't need crutches or an ice machine, but I feel a little disappointed because I had to come off. The season is long and I don't want to go through what I did before. I'm in a little pain, but it's not inside the knee like it was last time." www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/sport/Sousa-hit-midfield-injuries/article-1372389-detail/article.html

We should beat Swansea in their current guise & I hope that we do beat them. What I'm not looking forward to if we do beat them is some of the quite frankly unpleasant grandstanding & goading that we have seen from a tiny minority of our support talking about Sousa in a disrespectful manner, just shows the calibre & class & limited intelligence levels of some of the people we are dealing with here unfortunately. I think we will win 2-0 in Swansea, which is another 3 points & definately not vindication for the disgraceful & underhand antics of some at the club & their "water carriers" during the tenure of Paulo Sousa at QPR.

BBC Bodde out for rest of the season Ferrie Bodde had not started a game since last November Midfielder Ferrie Bodde has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing a cruciate ligament in his left knee for a second time. The £5m-rated Dutchman, 27, lasted just eight minutes of Saturday's 2-1 win over Sheffield United after he felt something "click". It was Bodde's first start since suffering the original injury to his knee 10 months ago. "The replacement graft has ruptured," said Swansea physio Cerian Parham. "It's very rare for this to happen as the graft is normally stronger than the original ligament.'' Highly influential Bodde, who has also torn a cartilage, was in fine form when the original knee injury struck in the 3-2 home defeat to Birmingham last November. Despite not playing since then, he was the subject of two bids worth up to £4.5m from Wigan in the summer which was turned down along with a lesser offer from Bolton. But he made his long-awaited comeback playing 21 minutes as a substitute in the 0-0 draw with Bristol City 10 days before Sheffield United's visit. Then last weekend, he played 22 minutes in the 0-0 draw at Barnsley, again as a substitute. Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has vowed to stand by Bodde during his latest setback. "It's a big blow, not just for the football club but, more importantly, for Ferrie himself," said Jenkins. "He is devastated at the moment. But as a club we have told him we will look after him and stand by him every step of the way - as we did last time. 606: DEBATE I hope he will get it sorted and it's not a career ending injury Jägermeister Jack "He will remain a very important member of this football club. "We all feel for him, and I'm sure every Swans fan will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery." Bodde joined Swansea in the summer of 2007 for £80,000 from ADO Den Haag and was instrumental in the heart of midfield as the Swans won the League One title. He was the subject of two failed bids from Derby County the following summer, before signing a new contract. And he started last season in fine form before it was ended abruptly against Birmingham. It is the latest blow for manager Paulo Sousa who has suffered with numerous injuries in midfield. Darren Pratley has missed the start of the season with a shoulder injury and mumps, while Joe Allen has missed most of the season with a hamstring injury. Andrea Orlandi is suffering with a thigh strain, Leon Britton picked up a toe injury and Cedric van der Gun has suffered with a thigh problem. Tom Butler is on his way back though after recovering from a hernia operation and scoring the winner on Saturday. newsvote.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/s/swansea_city/8276943.stm

BBC Swans are coming together - Sousa Sousa has won two of his nine opening Championship matches Manager Paulo Sousa says his Swansea City side are ready to "fly" high ahead of their visit to Doncaster on Tuesday. The two-times Champions League winner has endured a tough start to life in the Swansea hot-seat since taking over in the summer. He sealed his first home league win at the weekend although it came at a cost with key midfielder Ferrie Bodde ruled out for the rest of the season. "To build a team, sometimes it takes a longer time," said Sousa. "I arrived here without a scouting department, without a medical department and had players with serious injuries, while players with 50 goals between them have gone. "Every day we can grow. We've started to understand each other, everyone's started to understand my leadership and it's easier to grow so we are happy and coming stronger and stronger during these days." Swansea have won just two of their opening nine Championship games this season. But injuries have plagued Sousa's short time in south Wales with the back-bone of the last two season's midfield success sidelined. Bodde was making his recovery from a 10-month absence with a cruciate knee ligament injury before the latest set-back on Saturday. Darren Pratley has missed the start of the season with a shoulder injury and mumps, while Joe Allen has missed most of the season with a hamstring injury. Both are on their way back. Andrea Orlandi is suffering with a thigh strain and misses Tuesday's trip to the Keepmoat Stadium, while Leon Britton picked up a toe injury and Cedric van der Gun has suffered with a thigh problem. The latter two face fitness tests ahead of the Doncaster game. Nathan Dyer and Jordi Lopez are suspended for the trip after being sent off in Saturday's 2-1 win over Sheffield United, taking the total number of red cards this season to five already. But with the likes of Tom Butler returning, Sousa is confident he will have the squad to lift the Swans up the Championship table. Interview: Swansea goalkeeper Dorus de Vries "When everyone is fit and I can work with everyone together, we can fly," he said. "Confidence is with us because we can see the lads enjoying the training. "They are coming to develop themselves and it means they have confidence in my work, they have confidence in themselves and they believe in their talent." news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/s/swansea_city/8279543.stm

Another 0-0 draw for Swansea last night at Doncaster, with Swansea again supposedly making, but missing chances.Western Mail - Paulo Sousa frustrated as injury-hit Swans draw at Doncaster Sep 30 2009 by Chris Wathan, Western Mail PAULO SOUSA refused to hide his frustration at seeing victory slip away in Doncaster – despite the injury crisis gripping his side. The Swansea City boss was without as many as 11 senior players for the trip to the Keepmoat and conceded he and his team could be proud with the way they have coped with the losses. But the overriding emotion was still disappointment for the Portuguese after admitting it was two points dropped against Sean O’Driscoll’s men. “It’s a big frustration for me and all the players,” said Sousa following the stalemate. “We are pleased because people had to work in different positions and different conditions. But once more the lads are coming off the pitch frustrated because they have dropped two points. “It was the same at Barnsley and we know we need to win these games. If we win these games our position in the table would be completely different. “But at the same time I am proud of them and their hard work. Especially in the first half the strategy we were looking for was completed well. “We got four clear opportunities and should have had a penalty.” Sousa, who again opted not to comment in detail about the number of players out through injury, did start to show the annoyance with the disruption so many absentees are constantly causing. But even with the large numbers again unavailable for last night’s clash, he vowed to keep going for victories after steadying the Swans ship with a four-game unbeaten run. “I would not have taken a draw before the game,” he said. “I never look for draws in a game and I don’t want my players to either. “We were creating chances so I am happy but also frustrated. We must keep doing the same things.” www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/swansea-city-fc/2009/09/30/paulo-sousa-frustrated-as-injury-hit-swans-draw-at-doncaster-91466-24814459/

Swansea Assessed
Evening Post Goals need to flow for PauloThursday, October 01, 2009, SWANSEA City have reached the first milestone of the season and it is difficult to judge how far they have come. Paulo Sousa's team have reached 10 Championship games, the point in the early stages of any campaign when managers tell us the league table is beginning to take shape. Swansea climbed up to 16th after Tuesday night's draw at Doncaster Rovers, with the early evidence suggesting they are in for a season of lower mid-table struggle. Swansea have played some nice football, and might easily have won any of the four goalless draws they have already played out. One point could have been three — it is a familiar tale at the Liberty in recent times. At least last season Swansea scored a healthy share of goals. Just now they are chucking away points because they are averaging only one goal every two league fixtures. Their tally of five is a miserable one and, should be it repeated throughout the season, Sousa's men will end up with 23 league goals next to their name come May. That is one fewer than Jason Scotland, the man whose eye for the target has never been so well appreciated in these parts, managed on his own last term. Swansea can be pleased with the resilience they are showing, with no questions over the commitment of the teams — and the plural should be used, for they change dramatically every week — Sousa has sent out in recent weeks. Credit is also due as far as their defensive record goes, with five league clean sheets an impressive total at this early stage. Swansea's problems have been further forward, with dreadful disruption hampering their classy midfield and some suspect finishing denying their strikers the right kind of headlines. After controlling the game for long spells at Doncaster, Sousa pointed out that the Championship games can easily be one of the back foot. But he knows Swansea are at their best when their midfield is in charge, and the Portuguese pines for a chance to field his frontline stars in that department. He will have to wait a long time for Ferrie Bodde, of course, but having Leon Britton, Darren Pratley and Joe Allen available at the same time, not to mention Jordi Lopez and the improving Andrea Orlandi, would be a big plus for Sousa. When that lot are around, judging Swansea under their new manager will be a more clear-cut job."You know probably better than me because you have followed the last couple of years more specifically," Sousa told the Post. "When you have those special midfield players, all of them, they are the central part of the team. "The quality, the movement, the intensity they have — they are the heart of this team and they can control games. "We realise how important they are and I hope I can choose these players soon. I look forward to that because you need to have everyone fit, not only for the starting line-up but also so you have a balanced bench." Injury troubles have been one of the tales of the season so far, leaving some on the outside questioning whether Swansea's players have the basic fitness required to avoid niggles.Sousa batted away questions about training methods in midweek, insisting he didn't understand what was being asked. He was unimpressed, too, when a radio man mentioned Lee Trundle after the Scouser had spent another night kicking his heels on the bench. "I have other players," Sousa said. "You journalists love to talk only about Lee Trundle, and I recognise that he is a big idol for the fans. "I brought him here, I know what he can do, but he is only one player in our squad. We cannot play with 11 Lee Trundles." Questions about which of Swansea's forward players does what will continue until Sousa's team start scoring more goals. There was progress last weekend against Sheffield United, but many more must follow Tom Butler's lead after he notched up Swansea's first open-play goal of this league campaign. "The most important thing is that we get three or four players in the box attacking the areas we need to attack," Sousa stressed in the wake of the latest blank. "I expect that when it starts to happen for us in front of goal, if will happen continuously." That may be asking a bit much, but more punch is essential over the season's next block of 10 games. If Swansea have scored only 10 when the table says played 20, they will be light in the points column too. www.myswans.co.uk/news/Goals-need-flow-Paulo/article-1384058-detail/article.html
