If, as I hope, I get to this game, I will subsequently try and compose a drunk's eye view of the two days involved. ;D

Taylor injury blow for Mags Ryan Taylor/Peterlee Mail Date: 30 September 2009 RYAN Taylor is the latest Newcastle United player to be ruled out of Newcastle United's home game against Queens Park Rangers. Taylor - who scored one and set up two other goals in Saturday's 4-0 win at Ipswich Town - misses out tomorrow night because of the calf injury he suffered at Portman Road. Hughton had already ruled Fabricio Coloccini (groin) and Joey Barton (foot) out of the game."Ryan came very close, but he'll just miss out," said Hughton in his pre-match Press conference. "It's a blow for us. He's a player who has been involved in almost every game this season, and he's certainly shown his value to the squad, but it will give an opportunity to somebody else." www.peterleemail.co.uk/sport/Taylor-injury-blow-for-Mags.5689961.jp

Peterlee Mail Nolan backed for more goalsKEVIN Nolan has been backed to carry on scoring as Newcastle United look to cement their position at the top of the league. Nolan took his tally for the season to six goals, and became the club's top scorer, with his hat-trick in Saturday's 4-0 demolition of Ipswich Town. And the midfielder and his team-mates take on Queens Park Rangers at St James's Park tomorrow looking to strengthen their position at the Championship summit. Chris Hughton's side are scoring goals throughout the team in the absence of Shola Ameobi, and the club's caretaker boss believes Nolan, with his drive from midfield, can have a big say in Newcastle's promotion push. "There's no doubt that what we've experienced so far this season has been very much a team performance," said Hughton. "But we're seeing individuals like Kevin Nolan playing very well. "We've always known what Kevin was capable of. He has the drive and ambition to get forward from midfield and score goals, as has Danny Guthrie. "At the moment, he's playing well and scoring goals, which is great for us. So far he's got six goals, but for us as coaching staff, it's not about targets. "The most important thing is to be playing well and he's doing it. "Kevin may well have a target in his own mind in terms of goals, and for us it's so far, so good, and it's a very good spell he's in at the moment." Another 40,000-plus crowd is expected at St James's Park for the QPR game, when United, two points clear of second-placed West Bromwich Albion, will be looking to extend a 100 per cent home record. Hughton added: "The most important thing for us is to continue the good work we've achieved so far.
"The performance at Ipswich was fabulous, but we have a home game, and we're the team in form.
"We can't take QPR lightly, and we can't get carried away. For us it is very much a case of going back to business. We aim to put on another performance and win."www.peterleemail.co.uk/sport/Nolan-backed-for-more-goals.5687105.jp

QPR Official Site THE MATCHDAY PREVIEW: GEORDIES Posted on: Wed 30 Sep 2009 Two of the Championship's in-form sides meet at St James' Park tonight, as the R's take on table-toppers Newcastle United in the North East. Rangers are currently unbeaten in five Championship fixtures and buoyed by back-to-back away wins against Sc**thorpe United and Cardiff City in the last month, Jim Magilton's men will head North high on confidence. Meanwhile, the Geordies' 4-0 win against out-of-sorts Ipswich Town at the weekend continued their fine start to season. Kevin Nolan notched a hat-trick and Ryan Taylor was also on target, as Chris Hughton's men ran riot at Portman Road. Team News Magilton is expected to name an unchanged side for the trip to St James' Park, after Rangers turned on the style to ease past Barnsley on Saturday. Two-goal hero Akos Buzsaky will be keen to continue his recent return to form, whilst Jay Simpson will be aiming to add to the three goals he has netted in his last two Championship fixtures. Fitz Hall could be in line to return to the R's squad following a recent groin strain, but Matt Connolly (Glandula Fever), Gareth Ainsworth (tendonitis) and Lee Cook (knee) remain sidelined. The Geordies could be minus the services of star defender Fabricio Coloccinni and Ryan Taylor. Argentine Coloccinni succumbed to a groin strain midway through the second half of United's 4-0 win at Ipswich, whilst a calf problem brought Taylor's evening to an end not long after. However, striker Marlon Harewood could be in line to make his full debut following his recent loan move from Aston Villa. Star Man Alan SMITH - Midfielder Love him or loathe him, one thing you can never accuse Alan Smith of is not giving 110 per-cent to the cause. Handed the captaincy this season, the former Leeds United ace is relishing his new role in the Geordies' midfield engine-room Smith is yet to open his account for the season, but it's his work-rate and desire that ensure he's one of the first names on Hughton's teamsheet on matchdays. Pre-match Talk Jim Magilton... "We'll set out a team that can go there and win the game. "We'll go there with great confidence after Saturday and the way we've played over the last few weeks." Chris Hughton... "We're in confident mood, and when it's like that you always can't wait to get the next game up and running. "For us that is QPR. But I think we're up against a team that are also scoring goals and have just beaten Barnsley 5-2. "They will also be thinking they can beat us, and we'll up against a good side, who went to Cardiff and also picked up a win. "They are very capable." And Harewood maybe making his debut 'I've nothing to prove' says Marlon Sheilds Gazette - Date: 30 September 2009 MARLON Harewood sets about reviving his career this evening and insists he doesn't have a point to prove. Harewood – who hopes to make his home debut against Queens Park Rangers tonight – last week joined Championship leaders Newcastle United on a three-month loan after falling out of favour at Aston Villa. And the striker – who was farmed out to WolvADVERTISEMENTerhampton Wanderers last season after failing to break into Martin O'Neill's team – says he is desperate to start taking out months of frustration on opposition defences. The 30-year-old is now fully fit after recovering from a pre-season injury, and having come off the bench in Saturday's 4-0 win at Ipswich Town, he is pushing for a start against QPR. "The situation (at Villa) was the manager's choice – that's it really," Harewood told the Gazette. "The first year I went there and did really well and scored a couple of goals, but it's always down to the manager and his opinion. You can't really say anything about it. "There were no injuries for me, it was just purely a selection thing. I haven't got a point to prove – people know what I can do. "I'm just going out there to do the best I can and score as many goals as possible. "I'm just looking forward to playing football again full stop. "It's a good opportunity for me – Chris (Hughton) brought me in to help him out and get some goals. It's been really good." Harewood, 30, is best known on Tyneside for the collision with goalkeeper Shay Given as a West Ham United player in late 2006. The clash, for a 50-50 ball, left Given needing emergency surgery for a perforated bowel. "When I had the 50-50 with Shay, I went to the hospital to see if he was all right," said Harewood. "It was one of those balls that a striker has to go for – I didn't go in there to hurt him. "I know after the game he had a problem with his bowel, so I went to see him after the game and see if he was OK." www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/39I39ve-nothing-to-prove39-says.5690869.jp

PFA's Give Me Football
More of the same please Kev, says Newcastle bossNewcastle United - Chris Hughton reckons Kevin Nolan is at the top of his game By Mark Shail September 30, 2009 Newcastle United caretaker boss Chris Hughton is hoping in-form midfielder Kevin Nolan can continue his impressive start to the season when the Magpies entertain QPR tonight. The former Bolton star netted the first hat-trick of his career in the 4-0 victory at Ipswich on Saturday to take his seasonal tally to six, while another win for the Toon against Rangers will see Hughton’s men open up a five-point lead at the top of the table. Hughton said: “There is no doubt that what we have experienced so far this season has been very much a team performance. But we are seeing individuals like Kevin Nolan playing very well. “We have always known what Kevin is capable of. He has the drive and motivation to get forward from midfield and score goals, as has Danny Guthrie. “At the moment he is playing well and scoring goals for us, which is great. So far he has got six goals but for us, as a coaching staff, it is not about targets.” Glen RoederQPR beat Barnsley 5-2 at the weekend and former Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder is expecting Jim Magilton’s men to provide a tough test in what should be an attractive contest. “They are two teams who are bang in form. QPR are going really well at the moment and Newcastle are top,” said Roeder.
“I know Jim Magilton and John Gorman well and they will want to go there and get the ball down and pass through midfield.
“They will not be an aggressive team to play against, which could suit Newcastle, but it will also mean the game should be pleasing on the eye.”www.givemefootball.com/championship/more-of-the-same-please-kev-says-newcastle-boss
