Please come and save Queens Park Rangers, Mr Mittal!

Come and get us, Mr Mittal.
The big question at Loftus Road centres on the future on a certain playboy Italian and if he is a ‘fit and proper person’ to lead the boardroom. What would the next five years look like for QPR if Flavio Briatore is forced to hot-tail it back to Italy? Would we be looking at a return to the dark days of administration and multi-million pound debts of the early noughties?
Or, could it be possible that the ‘Crashgate’ affair might give Rangers exactly fans what they’ve wanted for over a year now: For The Fourth-Richest Man In The World Lakshmi Mittal to buy out Flav and Ecclestone and take the club forward under the guidance of his stepson, Amit Bhatia, who has endeared himself to fans with his warm, intelligent insights about the club’s future.
I certainly hope so, but there is no way of telling just yet.
Everything rests on the Football League’s investigations and whether Briatore is forced to leave or decides to bail out himself – although this seems unlikely, unless he completely wants out from sport.
It also depends on the rumours that Mr Mittal is seeking to buy out the Italian being true. We can only hope.
Once again, the outlook at Loftus Road is becoming foggier and foggier. And once again, it is the fans and the players who will suffer the most.
Saturdays 2-0 win again Cardiff suggests there is at least the potential for a good run in the Championship in the next few months (although I remain unconvinced by Jim Magilton) and despite the callous and atrocious handling of ticketing for the Chelsea game, almost 6,000 Rs fans will head to up the Fulham Road to Stamford Bridge. There’s certainly an appetite for success.
But once again, we’re all in the dark about the mechanisms running the club and there is no indication of what’s going on.
At Magilton’s press conference this week, he shrugged off the notion that the boardroom soap opera would affect the team, saying footballers are “selfish brutes” who “tend to take care of their own business”. I hope so, but I’m not convinced. Rowan Vine has pleaded with the board numerous times for stability, whilst one of the main factors in Rangers not securing a striker was cited as being the board not being able to give proper assurances to new players.
With this in mind, I think I speak on behalf of many supporters when I say Mr Mittal, come and get us.
(And here’s to pulling off an upset at Chelski this week!)
