Exclusive by Laurie Hanna and Greig Box Turnbull 1/12/2008 Police investigate at the football pitch in Sipson Lane near Heathrow airport (Pic:DM) - A Sunday league footballer died yesterday after being attacked on the pitch at the end of the match. - Police arrested two men – a 19-year-old and another aged in his 40s – who were last night being questioned by detectives. - The man who died was 43 and had turned out for amateurs Old Greenfordians. The dead man’s team had played Kinghill Town FC, where a source said: “The victim was an Old Greenfordians player. I didn’t see what happened as it was after the match. - “I’m not able to say anything else as we have to speak to the police.” - The Metropolitan Police said: “The Met’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command has been informed. The death is being treated as suspicious. Two men have been arrested in connection with the man’s death and taken to a London police station.” - Officers yesterday cordoned off the part of pitch where the attack took place at the Little Harlington Playing Fields in Harlington, Middlesex. It is next to Chelsea’s old training ground, now used by Championship side QPR. China’s Olympic team ended up brawling on the pitch during a friendly in 2007. - Ron Dunning, chairman of Hayes and Dis-trict Sunday Football League, said: “We do not know exactly what happened. We’ll speak to the Football Association and release a statement once we have reviewed the incident.” - The London Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 12.20pm. The patient had stopped breathing. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at scene.”

And from Metro Amateur footballer killed after pitch attack Monday, December 1, 2008 A Sunday league footballer has died after he was attacked on the pitch at the end of a match. The 43-year-old, who plays for Old Greenfordians, was pronounced dead at the scene after the assault yesterday at a match against Kinghill Town in Harlington, Middlesex.
Police held two men, aged 19 and another in his 40s.
Part of the pitch where the attack took place was cordoned off at the Little Harlington Playing Fields - right next to the training ground of CHampionship team QPR.

Amateur footballer 'killed after fight with opposition players' By Daily Mail Reporter 01st December 2008 A Sunday league footballer was killed after a fight with opposition players, police said today. Stephen Ritchie, 43, from Brentford, north west London, died following a match in Harlington, Hayes, yesterday afternoon.
The victim, who played for Old Greenfordians, was pronounced dead at the scene after the match against Kinghill Town.
Scotland Yard are treating his death as suspicious and have arrested two 20-year-old men who are currently in custody at a west London police station. A post mortem this morning gave the cause of death as a head injury. A source from Kinghill Town FC told the Daily Mirror: 'The victim was an Old Greenfordians player. I didn’t see what happened as it was after the match. 'I’m not able to say anything else as we have to speak to the police.' Emergency services were called to Little Harlington Playing Fields, Sipson Lane, at around 12.20pm when a brawl broke out at the final whistle. The pitch is next to Chelsea’s old training ground, now used by Championship side QPR. China’s Olympic team ended up brawling on the pitch during a friendly in 2007. Two men have been charged following the death of a man after a Sunday league football match.
Stephen Ritchie, 43, from Brentford, northwest London, died when a fight broke out at the final whistle of a match in Harlington, Hayes, on Sunday.
Darren Forwood, 20, of Frays Avenue, West Drayton, west London, was charged with murder.
Both men will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Tuesday morning.
Brandon Thompson, 20, of Widmore Road, Hillingdon, west London, was charged with actual bodily harm, Scotland Yard said.
Mr Ritchie died after his team won an away match 4-3 against Kingshill Town in the Hayes and District Sunday Football League Division One.
The game was played near Chelsea's old training ground, which is now used by Championship side QPR.
