Peterborough Today - Preview: New keeper Weale hails the Leicester supporters
Leicester v Posh, 15 September
IMPRESSED: Chris Weale.
LEICESTER'S new goalkeeper Chris Weale believes the club's fans are the reason why The Foxes haven't lost a Football League match at The Walkers Stadium for over 12 months.
Weale insists the home crowd are patient and supportive, even when the side are not at their best, and that gives the players confidence.
It's the exact opposite of QPR's crowd which was hostile from a very early stage in Saturday's draw with Posh.
Weale said: "We have a good, solid back four and lots of creative players, who have the freedom to express themselves, and the fans allow them to do that.
"It seems a very positive atmosphere. You go to some grounds and you sense that after five or 10 minutes the crowd will be on top of them.
"If you go to an away ground the manager will be telling us the crowd will get on top of them and they will go under, but here it is very positive and the team is happy and enjoying their football.
"It does come with success and the club had a successful season last year. There is a positive feeling about the place and hopefully that will continue.
"The manager briefly touched on the home record after the game and said it was impressive, but we want promotion this season or next. It is a good record to have, but we want to get as many wins as we can."
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson has overseen a good start to life in the Championship for last season's League One Champions.
The Foxes are currently sixth in the table and boast a 100 per cent record at home. Pearson believes he has a squad capable of challenging for another promotion especially if top scorer Matty Fryatt stays fit and healthy.
Pearson said: "I have said to the players that the squad we have here I am happy to have. I compare them favourably to most teams at this level.
"Newcastle had a very good team on the night when we played them, but I wouldn't necessarily swap our squad for theirs. The challenge for me this year is to make sure we have a squad ethic because that is what will bring us success again.
"Matty is an out and out goalscorer. I have never questioned him, but there are certain people who have questioned whether or not he can perform at Championship level.
"I believe he will score goals wherever he goes and at whatever level he plays. You get less chances in a game, the higher you play so Matty's record speaks for itself."
