As Sousa is findings. (As opposed to...!) Which is why the Mel Johnson for QPR is so self-evident (and presumably won't happen)
Lil Fuccillo’s arrival is good news for Swansea City

AFTER a “dangerous” summer without any form of proper scouting, Swansea City now have more than 1,500 potential targets – it’s amazing the difference one man can make.
Following the departure of former chief scout Kevin Reeves to Wigan with Roberto Martinez, new boss Paulo Sousa effectively had one arm tied behind his back in the transfer market this summer.
With Reeves taking his full database of player information with him, the Swans scouting system went back to square one.
Ironically, as soon as the transfer window closed, that all changed when Lil Fuccillo was recruited from Newcastle. And, while the Magpies’ off-field turmoil shows little sign of improvement, Swansea are now set to benefit from the thousands of pounds the Geordies’ beleaguered owner Mike Ashley poured into his scouting department last season.
Suddenly Reeves’ departure no longer looks like the end of the world when it comes to player recruitment. Fuccillo had vast resources available to him at St James’ Park and, now he has moved to the Liberty, the Swans look set to reap the rewards.
“Kevin did a fantastic job here, but naturally he took all his stuff with him,” Fuccillo explained. “That might be an issue if I wasn’t bringing all my info from Newcastle with me.
“I have a list of 1,652 players as things stand. They have all been looked at and there is a database Paulo can look at with me.
“I was here, there and everywhere with Newcastle, looking at players all over the world. But I also have a very good knowledge of the British market because it all depends on what the club are looking for.
“I’m not saying they are all good players or that they are all ideal for Swansea. But I can tell you now there are some targets who will fit the bill for both Paulo and the chairman.”
Highlighting how his previous work could benefit the Swans, he continued: “At Newcastle I had three lists; A, B and C. List A was players we wanted for the Premiership, list B was players we needed to look at a bit more and list C was players we didn’t want.
“I showed the lists to Paulo and he was happy with what he saw. Obviously list A options are out of our budget and something we need to look at if we move to the Premiership, but a lot of the list B players ticked the boxes for Swansea.
“There are players who are both affordable and good for the Championship. We will start going through that list and see where we are in January.”
While things may look much rosier for Swansea now, Fuccillo admits the club was left with a “nightmare scenario” this summer. Pointing out that the majority of player recruitment should take place between seasons, he was well aware that Reeves’ departure will have seriously hampered Sousa’s efforts in the transfer market.
The former Luton and Peterborough midfielder certainly wasn’t surprised it took the club so long to secure deals for the likes of record signing Craig Beattie. But, having somehow secured quality recruits in the end, he is confident any such problems are a thing of the past now.
“It’s a dangerous position for any club to be in,” he said when asked about Reeves’ departure. “To be without a scouting system for two months, an entire transfer window, is a nightmare scenario.
“You don’t want to be making panic signings because you don’t really know where to look. Fortunately Swansea haven’t done that, but I understand why it was a difficult summer for them.
“But now we can use the loan market and start planning for January. There are a couple of players I have already spoken to the chairman about.”
