(As did Clement and Bridges)(Francis came on as a sub, the season before, at home to Liverpool, in March 1969 QPR Team vs PortsmouthKelly Clement Hunt Hazell Watson Sibley Bridges Francis Wilkes Marsh Clarke Sub: Turpie Bob Turpie also made his debut coming on for the injured Mike Kelly [Turpie made 2 appearances total for QPR. His claim to fame: QPR chose him over Tony Currie! ] [As Tony Currie said " "He said: "I was born in Edgware and I grew up in Cricklewood. I first joined QPR on amateur forms when I was 14 to 15 years-old. Then when I left school the Club didn't think I was good enough to sign as an apprentice. "Instead, they signed Bob Turpie who was a mate of mine and went to the same School as me. So I then had to go and work for a small building firm..." qprreport.blogspot.com/2007/11/nice-qpr-interview-with-tony-currie-on.htmlAnd the Portsmouth Team vs QPR www.pompeyrama.com/pompey-fc-match-1075-Sat-13-Sep-1969-Pompey-1-Queens-Park-Rangers-3.htmlVIA BUSHMAN

I was there, Gerry's goal was a cracker if my memory is correct, although its hard to argue Stan being our best ever player, Gerry runs him a close 2nd imho

I was there.
Ian Watson looked reasonable in goal after replacing an injured Mike Kelly.
My abiding memory is of a group of Rangers fans behind us singing
"They've taken our flags & our banners They've even taken our spanners But we'll travel along Singing our song Side by side"
The pompey crowd also didn't like us very much!
I'm almost sure the next game was a midweek win at Blackburn 1-0 with Alan Spratley being attacked by someone from the crowd.
