The PFA has agreed to support the charity, which collects and delivers pre-worn football boots to communities across Africa enabling children and adults alike to play football wearing the correct footwear, for the forthcoming season and beyond.
Established at Sheffield Football Club, the world’s first football club, and recognised by FIFA as an outstanding contributor, Boots for Africa works hard to enhance the love of football across Africa by providing players with boots.
The PFA is working with the aim of boosting the number of boots the charity collects and enabling even more African players to benefit from this pioneering initiative.
The partnership will help to create a legacy program based on recycling and giving back to African football, as well as promoting the good work that players in this country do on behalf of their profession.
The boot donations will help to kit out young children in Africa, who it is hoped will develop into international footballers in time for the 2018 World Cup.
Gordon Taylor, Chief Executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association, said: “Football helps to build communities, develop social understanding and improve the lives of millions of people around the world, which is why we are delighted to be supporting Boots for Africa for the new football season.
“It provides our members with a fantastic opportunity, as professional footballers, to help improve the lives of many people – just by giving away a pair of their old boots.”
Sheffield FC Chairman Richard Tims added: “Football has taken a lot out of Africa with many great players moving out of the continent to play in the world's top leagues.
"Our Appeal provides a fantastic opportunity for the game to give something back and help improve the lives of many less fortunate children and as such, we are delighted to welcome the PFA on board.”
Boots for Africa is always on the lookout for donations, so if you can help, or for more information, visit the website:
