No interest in Mahon – Iron boss
Peristent reports from the London area linking Sc**thorpe United with an interest in midfield man Gavin Mahon have been rubbished by manager Nigel Adkins.
The 32-year-old player is currently surplus to requirements with Championship rivals QPR.
He plays the holding role in the middle of the park and has experience at playing in the top two levels of English football.
United were reported in the London media to have made an enquiry about Mahon in July.
And a QPR insider claims a possible loan deal could be in the offing.
It is also being suggested that Mahon could become part of a deal in January when QPR try again to prise striker Gary Hooper away from Glanford Park.
"Where do these stories come from?" said Iron boss Nigel Adkins.
"I have never had any interest in Gavin Mahon, not in the summer and not now."
Adkins opted against adding to his squad with a permanent signing before the transfer window closed this week until January.
But the loan window opens again next week and it would be no surprise if United do bring in a new face.
Whereas Adkins missed out on Arsenal's attacking midfielder Henri Lansbury, it seems it is defence that is the priority.
