Recently-appointed, Dave Sexton-managed QPR against a recently-having-dismissed-Dave Sexton Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
QPR had the recently-signed Don Masson in midfield and John Beck in his best QPR season. Chelsea I believe were managed by Ron Stuart with Eddie McCreadie as Coach.
Score: Chelsea 0 QPR 3 - Two from Don Givens; one from Gerry Francis.

March 31, 1986 - One of the greatest results for QPR fans against Chelsea: QPR 6 Chelsea 0
QPR Team: Barron - Dawes, Fenwick, Wicks, McDonald- Fereday, Allen, James, Robinson - Byrne, Bannister - Sub: Rosenoir - Bannister 3, Byrne 2, Rosenoir
QPR Official Site FROM THE ARCHIVES 4 Jan 2008...- QUEENS PARK RANGERS 6, CHELSEA 0- Easter Monday, March 31 1986 - Canon League Division One- A glorious Easter Monday as Rangers smashed home six goals to kill off Chelsea's League title hopes. - The R's went into this match in 14th place in the table. Chelsea were fourth and needed the points to rekindle their faltering challenge for the championship - especially after a 4-0 defeat against West Ham at Stamford Bridge on the Saturday. - It was a windy morning with intermittent rain showers peppering our Omniturf pitch, which had been much-criticised by Chelsea chairman Ken Bates earlier in the season. - For the first time in the history of this fixture, advance ticketing arrangements meant that there were no Chelsea fans infiltrating the Loft terrace. Cash admission was not permitted on the day so Rangers enjoyed terrific support from the all-ticket home end. - It took the Super Hoops only eight minutes to open the scoring. John Byrne's initial shot was charged down but Gary Bannister followed up to drill into the bottom right hand corner from an acute angle at the School End. -Cries of "Bann-is-ter...Bann-is-ter...Bann-is-ter..." (to the American marching tune) and "You're Not Singing Anymore..." rang out from the Loft terrace as the 4,000 Chelsea fans at the other end looked on in stunned silence. - Rangers doubled their advantage on 25 minutes. Byrne was involved again with a right wing cross, Terry Fenwick nodded the ball on and Bannister arrived in the six yard box to head home. A very noisy rendition of "Singing The Blues..." followed from the Loft. - A minute before the break, John Byrne picked up possession just inside the Chelsea half and lost his marker with a deft drop of the shoulder. He then dribbled past another four startled defenders amidst an orgy of skill before lashing into the net from just inside the box. - It was the most spectacular R's goal of the season and our fans rejoiced with versions of "John-ny Byrne, John-ny Byrne, John-ny Byrne" (against using the marching tune) and "Easy...Easy.." - The fourth came on 58 when Bannister tore away from the shambolic Chelsea back line and sent a low bullet-like shot into the right hand corner. Even the QPR stewards on the side of the pitch at the Loft End jumped up and down to celebrate. Meanwhile, the electronic scoreboard declared: "GARY HAT-TRICK BANNISTER" - Then on 64 minutes, Bannister whipped in a low cross from the right and Byrne provided a crisp finish for goal number five with the Chelsea rearguard in shreds. The Loft boys bounced around in unison with chants of "Blame The Pitch, Blame The Pitch, Blame The Pitch..." directed at the ashen-faced Ken Bates in the main stand. - Chelsea had striker David Speedie sent off two minutes later for flattening Ian Dawes with his elbow. The Rangers fans waved theatrically while singing "Bye Bye Speedie, Bye Bye Speedie..." (to the tune of Auld Lang Syne) as he plodded dejectedly from the arena. - The sixth blue and white hooped goal in Chelsea's net came in the 82nd minute. Substitute Leroy Rosenior ran from the halfway line through a wide open defence before firing firmly past despairing goalkeeper Steve Francis. The jubilant Loft bellowed "We Want Seven...We Want Seven..." as the visiting fans headed for the exits. - Chelsea manager John Hollins said afterwards: "It's been a very bad Easter for us, but I want to give QPR full credit for their performance." QPR
John Byrne Remembers - QPR Official Site, March 20 2008- "Probably the best game was when we beat Chelsea 6-0 at Loftus Road on Easter Monday 1986," recalls Byrne. - "I'll never forget that day! It was just one of those occasions when everything went right for us. Banna was on fire - he scored a hat-trick and I got a couple too. - "I remember one of my goals where I picked up possession on the halfway line. It was funny on that plastic pitch, because bodies would fall all around you if you got into your stride. So eventually I wriggled free and slotted a shot into the bottom corner. - "There were some big name players in the Chelsea line-up, including centre-back Doug Rougvie who seemed like he wanted to kill somebody when the score was 5-0! He was certainly looking for blood! - "We had the Milk Cup Final coming up and I remember saying to Banna with about 15 minutes to go 'I ain't going anywhere near Rougvie'. And Gary replied 'Neither am I!' So we both ended up playing on the wings with no one in the middle!... QPR

And others Chelsea Official Site"...Before the first league derby in 1968, QPR were the new boys in top flight football, winless 'tail-end Charlies', bottom of the division. It was an afternoon of growling thunder with a paddy field pitch at Loftus Road, and with more luck Chelsea would have hit double figures rather than just the four without reply. 'A thorough hammering,' thought The Times, and old boy Barry Bridges was well marshalled by Ron Harris. Several cup ties stand out too. Before the sixth round tie at Loftus Road in late February 1970, Chelsea had injury worries - a friendly against Borough Road Teacher Training College, of all teams, was arranged the Wednesday before and John Dempsey, Harris and Charlie Cooke came through. Terry Venables had augmented the old boy contingent in Shepherd's Bush and Rangers were ascendant again, but the 'remorseless locomotion' of the visitors and a hat-trick from Peter Osgood brought a 4-2 win to keep things all quiet on the western front. Inside ten minutes Dave Webb had created and scored the opener, followed by Ossie's first, to ensure fans of Second Division Rangers had a very long afternoon to endure with their stars failing to shine. Rodney Marsh was so deep in Chopper's pocket it was still a surprise to see him turn up on TV's 'I'm A Celebrity' 37 years on. [1973/74 - Remember this midweek daytime game during the "3 Day Week"] The tables were turned in 1973/4 in a third round FA Cup tie. Rangers, with Venables skippering, managed a 0-0 draw at the Bridge and won the replay 1-0 after no less than two postponements caused by the waterlogged pitch at Loftus Road. On a surface better suited to straw-hatted donkeys Stan Bowles headed the winner, and left the field to a horizontal ovation - on a stretcher after an inaccurate Ron Harris tackle. Dave Webb had hit the bar for the Blues but the fact was QPR had beaten Chelsea for the first time. A more long-term worry to Chelsea fans though was the continued absence of star names Alan Hudson and Peter Osgood. Both had been put on the transfer list following bust-ups with manager Dave Sexton. The gifted Hudson was gone in a month; Osgood, the talisman of the Sixties/Seventies sides, a month later. Their departure was the harbinger of doom for the cash-strapped club, for whom a genuine return to greatness was more than 20 years away. Although Rangers had the better of exchanges during that period, they have not won at Stamford Bridge in 22 years . That was in late January 1986, a 2-0 second leg League Cup fifth round victory in extra time over a Chelsea side with stocky winger Kevin McAllister deputising for centre-forward Kerry Dixon. They reached the final only to lose to Oxford United, 0-3. qprreport.blogspot.com/2008/01/chelsea-preview-qpr-game-and-recall.html

QPR AND CHELSEA AT WAR
The only League encounters between the two teams, prior to the 'modern day' meetings (which, as shown elsewhere, commenced in season 1968/69) were in the truncated leagues of the 1st and 2nd World Wars.
In 1915/16 Chelsea were Champions of the London Combination (for 'First' teams and known as the 'Principal' division) and we beat them 1-0 in our first ever meeting with them as a professional team in front of our highest gate of the season, 6000. In the away fixture Chelsea won 5-1 in front of 10,000.
It was not only low attendances that were a sign of the times of war but also the fact that QPR used no less than 42 different players in fulfilling the 22 fixtures in that league which comprised just 12 teams.
Chelsea were also champions of the 'Subsidiary' Division that year. 14 teams comprised that Division, ostensibly for Reserve teams, but only 14 fixtures were played with most players being 'guests'.
For 1916/17 only the Principal Division was retained and comprised 14 teams who were meant to play each other 3 or 4 times. West Ham were London Combination Champions, Chelsea 3rd and QPR 10th. We lost 1-2 and drew 2-2 with Chelsea at home and lost both away fixtures 1-3 and 0-3.
In 1917/18 Chelsea were Champions once more in a London Combination which now comprised only 10 teams. We won 2-1 away in the first of 4 encounters but lost the other three 0-1 and 1-2 at home, 0-1 away.
In the final year (1918/19) of Wartime Leagues the London Combination again comprised just 10 teams. And QPR, for the first time, finished ABOVE Chelsea! QPR 5th and Chelsea 6th. Chelsea still 'shaded' the encounters, though, with QPR. We won 3-2 and drew 2-2 at home, losing 0-3 and 0-2 away.
It's interesting to note just how, seemingly, life returned to 'normal' after November 11th in 1918 just by viewing it from the point of view of Sport. For example, our gate v Chelsea on October 26th was 7,500; in September 3,000 v Millwall; 23rd November 5,000 at Millwall. Later, 15th March 1919 at Millwall 20,000....21st April at Chelsea 20,000.
So. QPR resumed in Division 3 (South) destined not to meet Chelsea again until the League South(Div B) of World War 2. Commencing on October 21st 1939 The League comprised 10 teams playing home and away just once. QPR were champions pipping Bournemouth by 2 points with Chelsea third! We beat Chelsea 3-2 in the home fixture and drew the away fixture.
1940/41 can only be described as a mess. The Football League lumped no less than 34 teams into one League South and decided to determine positions in the league by goal average rather than points. Some teams, being more fortunate with available players and staff than others played as many as thirty or more fixtures with Stoke City managing the most - 36 while Swansea played just 10. The top four teams were:
1 Crystal Palace P27 W16 D4 L7 1.954pts av. 2 West Ham P25 W14 D6 L5 1.794 3 Coventry City P10 W5 D3 L2 1.750 4 Arsenal P19 W10 D5 L4 1.736
QPR and Chelsea finished down in the bottom half, each playing 23 matches. We lost to them 2-3 at home and 1-3 away. There was revenge however. In the London Cup we beat Chelsea 5-2 at home and 3-2 away then in Round 3 of the War Cup overcame them 2-0 at home and 4-2 in the 2nd leg at Stamford Bridge.
Sanity was restored for season 1941/42 when League South comprised 16 teams and they played each other home and away. Arsenal were Champions whilst it was 'honours even' with Chelsea who we beat 2-1 at home but lost 1-3 away. Slight edge overall to R's in that we finished 3 places above them in the table. QPR 10th, Chelsea 13th.
!942/43 saw Arsenal repeat the mixture and were Champions with 43 points - 5 ahead of both Tottenham Hotspur and QPR who each finished on 38 points with Spurs having the better goal difference. Chelsea were in 7th place. We drew 1-1 at Chelsea on the opening day of that season and beat them 4-1 at home on Nov 28th 1942.
We opened the 1943/44 season with a 3-1 victory at Chelsea and remained undefeated for the first 8 matches (5 wins and 3 draws) during which Heathcote scored 8 goals on his way to bagging 36 in his 33 League and Cup appearances. We conceded 54 goals that season and ELEVEN were in a home defeat by Chelsea in which we managed just a couple in reply. However, we finished third again with Chelsea in 8th place. Following that thumping by Chelsea (in which Rangers fielded a motley crew of youngsters and triallists due to injuries and unavailabilities) we were undefeated in the remaining 16 matches of that season. It proved destined that this season's fixtures against Chelsea would prove to be the last until 1968 as neither Watford nor Chelsea played us in the final League South of 1944/45 in which we finished in ninth place. Our final wartime competition in 1945/46 was Div 3 South (Northern Region) in which we finished Champions and the runners-up......Norwich City!
