HALL LIKELY TO MISS STANLEY TIEPosted on: Mon 24 Aug 2009 Fitz Hall is expected to miss Tuesday night's Carling Cup fixture against Accrington Stanley at Loftus Road. The in-form defender was forced from the fray at half-time in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, after aggravating a rib injury versus Billy Davies' side. "He got a kick to the ribs again," Magilton told www.qpr.co.uk. "He got a knock their last week and it was the same area that he aggravated on Saturday. "It was a direct blow and we didn't want to take any chances with him." On the plus side, Angelo Balanta is now back in full training following an ankle injury and could return to the squad for the visit of the League Two side to W12. www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1766796,00.html

BBC QPR v Accrington Stanley Live text and stats Content will update automatically Tuesday, 25 August 2009 Carling Cup TEAM NEWS QPR centre-back Fitz Hall will not feature after aggravating a rib injury against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Martin Rowlands is still out with an ankle problem but Angelo Balanta is back in training and could play, as could on-loan keeper Tom Heaton. Accrington manager John Coleman could recall Michael Symes to his attack for the game at Loftus Road. Coleman's strikers have yet to score a league goal this season and Symes may replace Paul Mullin or John Miles. MATCH PREVIEW QPR manager Jim Magilton insists his team are capable of scoring goals despite an indifferent start to the season. 606: DEBATE Give your views on this game They had no problem finding the net in the previous round, winning 5-0 at Exeter. If Rangers show that kind of form against Accrington, their opponents could be in for a tough night. Stanley are one of four League Two clubs to have made in to the second round and this is the fourth season in a row they have faced a Championship side in the competition. Three years ago they knocked out Nottingham Forest before losing Watford on penalties and have since worried Leicester and Wolves, losing by a single goal. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • QPR have played Accrington four times - all in the old Third Division between 1958 and 1960 - and won all four games. Queens Park Rangers • Rangers, the 1967 League Cup winners, reached the fourth round last season. • QPR's Wayne Routledge was one of three players to score a hat-trick in the previous round. Grant Holt of Norwich and Millwall's Neil Harris were the others. Accrington Stanley • The victory over Walsall in the first round was only Accrington's seventh match in the 49 years of the League Cup, and only the second time they have qualified for the second round. • The previous occasion was in 2006, when Nottingham Forest were their first-round victims. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/league_cup/8205279.stm

QPR OFficial Site MATCHDAY PREVIEW: ACCRINGTON Posted on: Tue 25 Aug 2009 Rangers welcome Accrington Stanley to Loftus Road tonight (Tuesday), with a place in the third round of the Carling Cup up for grabs. After easing past Exeter City in round one, courtesy of goals from Wayne Routledge (3), Alessandro Pellicori and Hogan Ephraim, the R's will be determined to register their first home victory of the campaign against the League Two outfit. Stanley - who beat higher league opposition in the shape of Walsall in round one - will be keen to bounce back from Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Gary Waddock's Aldershot Town. Article continues Advertisement Team News Jim Magilton is expected to make changes for the second round tie against Stanley. Fitz Hall is a major doubt for the R's, owing to the rib injury he sustained in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest. Angelo Balanta could be in line to return from an ankle injury, but skipper Martin Rowlands (ankle) and Lee Cook (knee) remain sidelined. Accrington gaffer John Coleman could make changes himself on the back of Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Aldershot Town. Coleman's strikers have yet to score a league goal this season and Michael Symes may replace Paul Mullin or John Miles. Star Man Paul MULLIN - Striker Legendary Stanley striker Paul Mullin initially joined Stanley in the summer of 1995, only to be allowed to leave months later. Spells at Non-League sides Darwen, Trafford and Clitheroe followed, before he enjoyed a highly successful spell at Radcliffe, where he was a huge success. A return to Lancashire followed in August 2000 and he's hardly looked back since then. Mullin finished his first full season as leading scorer and Player of the Year - a feat he has repeated a further five times over the years. Furthermore, he has also won The Players' Player of the Year award four times in the last five seasons. Last season, he was again the leading scorer and also became the first Stanley player to top 400 appearances. The Gaffer's thoughts *Jim Magilton - "It goes without saying that we are keen to progress in this competition and we will be approaching tonight's tie in exactly the same way we do with any competitive fixture. "The Club enjoyed a good run in this Cup last season, with a victory at Villa Park and a trip to Old Trafford amongst the highlights, and we all want to progress this evening. "Having said that, Accrington will also have their own ambitions to achieve in this competition and we won't be taking them lightly. "Victories in any competition breed confidence and we want to head to Sc**thorpe this weekend with a win to our name and a place in the third round." *John Coleman - "It will be a real money-spinner for us and is just the sort of draw we needed. "QPR are a good side and it will be an excellent test for the players and we look forward to it." Match odds with Bet365 QPR win - 1/3 Draw - 4/1 Accrington win - 15/2 Click here to back the R's! The Citizen Mullin: QPR win could save Accrington Stanley 10:27am Tuesday 25th August 2009 PAUL Mullin believes victory over QPR in the Carling Cup tonight could have a massive knock-on effect on Accrington Stanley’s ailing finances – but the club’s all-time leading goalscorer may not start the game. Stanley travel to Loftus Road to face Championship opposition after a win over Walsall in the first round. It is a tie that pits the Reds, currently attempting to pay off a £300,000 tax bill, against a side owned by F1 moguls Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone – not to mention Lakshmi Mittal, one of the richest men in the world. Despite that, Stanley will not make a huge amount of money from the fixture – but they could do if they progress to the third round and face Premier League opposition live on television. Mullin hopes such a prospect would help the club to push on and challenge for promotion in League Two, but he knows there is a possibility he will not start tonight. The 35-year-old has long been a stalwart in the Stanley side but manager John Coleman is considering changes after identifying the Reds’ profligacy in front of goal as a weakness during two straight league defeats. “I’m not too sure at the moment what side the manager’s going to put out,” said the forward, who has been playing with a rib injury. “We’ve got a squad and I think he might look to use it a bit. “I think the cup will be good for us to get away from the league for a game. “But it’s going to be tough because they’re two levels above us and because of the finances available to them. They’ve got money we can only dream of really. “We’ve never really had a big tie in this competition. Hopefully this time we can get through and get a plum draw. “If we could get through, financially it could solve our situation for this season and hopefully it would have consequences for next season as well. “So I think we all know this is a really important game for us.” QPR could field £3.5m summer signing Alejandro Faurlin. Possible Stanley team: Martin; Joyce, Edwards, Kempson, Winnard; Turner, Ryan, Procter, Miles; Symes, Kee. Possible QPR team: Cerny; Ramage, Stewart, Gorkss, Borrowdale; Routledge, Mahon, Faurlin, Buszaky; Pellicori, Agyemang. www.blackburncitizen.co.uk/sport/4563332.Mullin__QPR_win_could_save_Accrington_Stanley/

Carling Cup Second Round Monday 24th Aug 2009
Queens Park Rangers v Accrington Stanley Stanley travel to Championship side Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday evening in the second round of the Carling Cup.
It will be the first time in recent years that the two clubs have met. QPR have had a mixed start to the season, with three draws and a defeat in their first four league games, though they did thump League One side Exeter 5-0 away in the first round of the competition. We also overcame League One opposition to reach the second round, defeating Walsall 1-0 at the Crown Ground two weeks ago.
John Mullin remains the only confirmed absentee from the Stanley squad with an ankle injury. The match will be decided on the night with extra time and penalties if required.
The coach running to the game is now full, and there will be no places available for people that haven't pre-booked. The Crown on Whalley Road will be open from 11am, serving refreshments and breakfast sandwiches ahead of the coach leaving from outside the pub at midday.
