QPR 1 Nott F 1 QPR Crowd only 13,058 (only Preston and Watford had lower gate in the Championship) UPDATED TABLE (QPR below Swansea and Blackpool) www.sportinglife.com/football/live/tables/cc_champ.html QPR OFFICIAL SITERangers had to make do with a point, after Mikele Leigertwood's spectacular effort was not enough to take all three points. The R's took the lead in the 25th minute when Leigertwood struck from fully 25-yards out after turning his man. But Forest weren't to be deterred, as David McGoldrick sent the ball home from close range after a clever knock down. Rangers manager Jim Magilton made just two changes from the side that went down 1-0 at Bristol City on Tuesday evening. Both Alessandro Pellicori - making his competitive home debut alongside Alejandro Faurlin - and Heidar Helguson started in attack for the R's, at the expense of Patrick Agyemang and Akos Buzsaky respectively. That meant Adel Taarabt started the game on the left-hand side, as the R's looked to exploit the Forest back line. Elsewhere, former R's goalkeeper Lee Camp started for the visitors, while fellow ex-Ranger Dexter Blackstock had to make do with a place on the Reds' bench. As the teams emerged into the blazing sunshine it was Forest who were to fashion the first opportunity of the game - forcing Radek Cerny into making two top-quality saves. Only three minutes had passed on the clock when, after a clever through ball, Radoslaw Majewski found himself clear down the left. Bearing down on goal, the Polish midfielder sent in a vicious shot that looked destined for the net, before Cerny got down well to his right to parry the ball away. The action wasn't finished there though, as the ball fell to the feet of Joe Garner from close range. The Forest striker looked certain to score as he sent in another low, rasping shot - but Cerny got down excellently again to tip the ball wide for a corner. At the other end, trickery from Taarabt after a clever pass from Gary Borrowdale saw the Spurs loanee beat two men before setting up Mikele Leigertwood on the edge of the area, but he could only shoot high and wide. If anything, this was becoming an end-to-end affair, not least when after good work down the left from Chris Cohen, his cross just evaded Dele Adebola, after good pressure on him by Fitz Hall. Moments later the R's broke, creating their best chance to date to take the lead. A neat pass from Faurlin found Helguson just outside the area. The Icelandic forward then played a first-time pass to Taarabt, who in all fairness, had more time than he realised when being put through on goal, and could only snatch his shot wide. Rangers were now having the greater say in terms of possession, and after super work from Taarabt saw him find Routledge out wide on the right, he crossed dangerously into the box. However, when the ball somehow found its way to Borrowable from 10-yards out, he could only blast wide. The R's didn't have to wait much longer for that all-important first goal though, and in the 25th minute, Leigertwood fired Rangers into the lead with a quite stunning strike. After receiving the ball from a throw -in, the former Crystal Palace man turned his marker superbly from 25-yards out, before sending in a thunderous strike past a helpless Camp with his weaker left foot. Just before half time, Forest did have a chance to pull level after Majewski sent in a dangerous free-kick from a central position, though Cerny was more than equal to that effort to tip the ball away for a corner. As the teams reappeared for the second half, the R's were enforced into making a substitution, as Fitz Hall was replaced by Kaspars Gorkss. Although the extent of that injury thus far, is unclear, it looked to be a precautionary switch from R's boss Magilton. That setback wasn't to deter Rangers though, and soon after the break, they nearly doubled their lead. It was the ever present Taarabt who after driving down the middle, played to ball to Routledge, who was quick to react and play Pellicori in down the left. The Italian forward went close, but could only see his shot hit the side netting. Thereafter it was Forest, though, who were having the better of the play - and soon they were rewarded with a second-half equaliser in the 58th minute. After a long ball was played into the direction of Dele Adebola, he used all of his experience to nod the ball down for David McGoldrick as near as 10-yards out. The former Southampton man made no mistake from there, drilling into the roof of the net to draw Forest level. It was a goal that had the ability to dishearten Rangers, though it didn't, and soon after the R's went in search of a second, introducing Rowan Vine for Pellicori in the process. It was in fact Vine who was instantly involved, receiving the ball from Helguson before drilling an effort from the edge of the area at CampRangers could sense that a second goal could be in the offing, and with that sent on Akos Buzsaky for the impressive Taarabt in search of that goal that would give them all three points. And Buzsaky was close to giving Rangers the lead they craved when he send in a dangerous free-kick from the right, but that wasn't to beat Camp. And soon after it was Buzsaky involved again as he crossed for Helguson, but his header went just over, as the R's couldn't find a way past a defiant Forest defence. QPR 1 v 1 Nottingham Forest Nottingham Forest won a well-deserved point at Loftus Road after producing some excellent football. It was a wide open game, with both sides committed to attack and the score hardly reflected the number of chances both sides created. It was a fast and furious first half but, in spite of playing some good football and creating some excellent chances, Forest went in at half time a goal down, after a superb goal gave Rangers the lead 25 minutes into the game. The second half was equally fast and evenly matched but Forest worked hard to deserve the equalizer and, with some good end-to-end football, the game could easily have gone either way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forest started well and had a real chance as early as the third minute when Radoslaw Majewski made a break from midfield. His powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area sent Radek Cerny diving to make the save. He couldn't hold the ball and it came back out to Joe Garner whose effort forced the QPR keeper to dive low to his left to make the second save. The pace continued at a frenetic pace with flowing football from both sides. Forest created another chance after good work by Chris Cohen down the left. He sent the ball over the head of Wayne Routledge towards the corner post where Garner was held off by a Rangers defender and was unable to get on the end of it. Another good move saw Paul McKenna set the ball up for Majewski who found David McGoldrick in loads of space. He beat the defender and the goalkeeper but then dragged the ball just an inch wide of the post. It was then Rangers turn to miss the target after Heidar Helguson did well to find Adel Taarabt whose effort was also wide of the post. Gary Borrowdale tried for a shot on target after waiting for the ball from Routledge to come down and slashed at the half volley to send it flying high over the bar from eight yards out. Rangers' pressure paid off when they took the lead 25 minutes into the game with a superb goal. Routledge picked out Mikele Leigertwood who got round Cohen and shot from over 20 yards, curling the ball over Lee Camp and into the top corner of the net. There was another narrow miss from Forest when a free kick by Cohen found Wes Morgan who sent a powerful header in from the back post. He looped the ball back across the face of goal and just over the crossbar. An excellent free kick by Majewski again put Forest close to an equalizer. He sent the ball up and over the wall and it would have gone in but for the right hand of Cerny, who turned the ball round the post for a corner. Garath McCleary came out in place of Joel Lynch for the start of the second half after the defender picking up a knock in the first half. A good long-range effort from Cohen early in the half caused Cerney some problems but he managed to make the ball safe at the second attempt. Forest worked hard to thoroughly deserve the equaliser just before the hour mark, from a free kick by Lee Camp. Dele Adebola flicked a great ball on to McGoldrick, who got past the defender and crashed the ball into the roof of the net from eight yards out. Rowan Vine tried to find the goal from long range but saw his effort saved by Camp, going down low to his left. And just before he was substituted, Taarabt tried a shot when he couldn't get through the Forest defence, but the ball was put out by Morgan for a corner. Great play by Forest saw McKenna play the ball in to McGoldrick, who played it to substitute Dexter Blackstock and he sent the ball spinning towards goal, but it was cleared off the line by Peter Ramage. Forest threw everyone back as it became Rangers turn to pile on the pressure again and again, with the away side making the occasional break forward. There was a fright for Forest fans on the 90th minute when Camp came out of his area to chase the ball as Helguson ran forward, but the linesman judged him to be offside. As the pressure continued, Buzsaky was prevented from getting a stoppage time winner by a good challenge from Morgan. On the final whistle there were a few boos from around Loftus Road, but not from the away supporters who were on their feet to applaud a good travelling performance by Forest. www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10308~1764633,00.html

Sporting LifeQPR 1 Nottingham Forest 1 Jim Magilton is still chasing his first league win as QPR manager after his side were held to a draw with Nottingham Forest at Loftus Road. Mikele Leigertwood's fine curling effort had put Rangers ahead in the first half, but David McGoldrick's first goal for his new side earned Forest a deserved point. Both sides had opportunities to win an entertaining game but they could not force a way through, so they both remain winless in their opening four Coca-Cola Championship games. Both managers tinkered with their starting line-ups following midweek defeats, with QPR making two changes and Forest five. It was Forest, who have not won on the road since late February, that started the better and QPR were indebted to Radek Cerny as the veteran goalkeeper made a fine double save after just three minutes. First the former Tottenham man got down well to save a low effort from Radoslaw Majewski before getting up to deny Joe Garner who fired in a follow-up effort. The visitors continued in the ascendancy and had two more quick-fire chances when McGoldrick dragged his shot wide from a good position before the impressive Majewski curled just over shortly after. Rangers finally stirred into action and created opportunities of their own. First Adel Taarabt's rushed shot was skewed wide and then Gary Borrowdale skied over from a good position inside the area. Borrowdale was not made to pay for his miss, though, as the hosts took the lead with their next attack. The ball fell to skipper Leigertwood, who curled a sublime 20-yard effort past Lee Camp and into the top corner. Forest probed for an equaliser before the interval, Wes Morgan's dipping header landed on the top of the net and Cerny was called into action to make a stretching save from a Majewski free-kick. Billy Davies' men came out fast in the second period and they were rewarded with an equaliser in the 57th minute. Camp pumped a long free-kick up the pitch, Dele Adebola climbed to flick on and McGoldrick latched onto the ball and crashed high into the net from eight yards to register his first strike for Forest since his summer move from Southampton. Forest tried to up the ante further, introducing Dexter Blackstock and Nathan Tyson in a bid to find a second goal, and Blackstock, playing against his former club, was denied by a brave save by Cerny, who came out to save at the striker's feet. QPR were chasing the win too and Heidar Helguson could have given his side the points, but he put his six-yard header, from Akos Buzsaky's cross, on to the roof of the net. Neither side were able to make the breakthrough and get a vital second goal, so Forest travel back home with their second point away from home this season, while Magilton awaits his first win. www.sportinglife.com/football/live/reports/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/09/08/22/manual_152424.html

GAFFER: 'OUR POOREST DISPLAY YET' Jim Magilton expressed his disappointment following the R's 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest at Loftus Road. Rangers took the lead through a Mikele Leigertwood wonder-goal in the first half, only for Forest to hit back courtesy of David McGoldrick's strike. "It was a classic strike from Mikele," he told www.qpr.co.uk, "but the game was far too open for my liking. "It was really frenetic stuff, a case of you have it, we have it, and we'll see who scores first. "I felt we could take a stranglehold after we scored, but we didn't and that really disappoints me. "At half-time there was a precautionary note, simply because we didn't defend properly in the first half. "And low and behold, we gifted them an equaliser, but at the end of the day, we haven't lost the game and that's important." Magilton added: "We need to be far more inventive going forward, but it just isn't happening for us at the moment. "Out of all our performances yet this season, that was definitely our poorest. "It's still very much work in progress, but we've got to improve quickly. "It was like a Friday morning five-a-side at times, unbelievably laid back and open, and that's not what I expect from my players." www.qpr.co.uk/page/TheGaffer/0,,10373~1764989,00.html

Davies Delighted With Progression Manager Billy Davies expressed his delight at the progression his side are making after their excellent performance at Loftus Road gave them a share of the points. Rangers took a first half lead but Forest produced some good football to thoroughly deserve their second half equalizer. Davies told us: "We should have been three goals up in the first half, we missed some very good chances, we were not clinical enough in front of goal. "But they went ahead with a wonder goal, against the run of play. It is a difficult place to play and we showed today that we carry an outstanding group of players." The manager has no doubt that his side have shown great progression since the start of the season, adding: "Four out of the five games we have played have been absolutely fantastic, I am delighted with the progression we are making, there are nothing but positives as far as I'm concerned. "I understand the frustration of the fans but I must remind them to stay positive and behind this team and they will see the progression we are making." www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10308~1764910,00.html

Rs miss out againQPR 1-1 Nottm Forest Rangers are still looking for their first Championship win of the season after surrendering a first half lead. The Hoops got their noses in front with a stunning left foot drive from Mikele Leigertwood after 25 minutes, but hopes that it would provide them the platform to get their season finally up and running were dashed as they lost their way after the break. David McGoldrick equalised for the visitors on 57 minutes and the Rs could have few complaints that they had to share the points. Forest grew in confidence after their equaliser and went looking for winner every bit as much as Rangers – though neither side made an unanswerable case for victory. It had all looked so much more promising when Leigertwood, captain in the absence of the injured Martin Rowlands, cut in from the right and unleashed an unstoppable gem. Former Rangers keeper Lee Camp got nowhere near a ball that sailed to his right and into the net. The strike came at the end of a decent spell for Rangers in which Adel Taarabt should have scored – had he showed a little composure when Heidar Helguson squared the ball. The Moroccan had more time than he realised, but snatched at the opportunity, rolling a first time shot wide of a post.Gary Borrowdale also found himself in a good position at the far post when a Wayne Routledge cross cleared defenders and attackers at the near post, but he skied over. Rangers were slow to stir themselves, allowing Forest to grab the initiative early on. Radek Cerny had to make a fine double save to deny Radoslaw Majewski and Joel Garner but even he could have done little about the chances Forest fashioned a minute later when Majewski fed David McGoldrick in acres of space. Luckily for Rangers, the Forest striker seemed unnerved by the lack of pressure on him and he placed his shot wide of Cerny's right hand post. But McGoldrick made amends 12 minutes into the second half when he reacted quickest to a ball Rangers could not clear and lashed high into the roof of the net. Alessandro Pellicori, making his first start for Rangers, blasted into the side-netting at the start of the second half, but otherwise struggled to get himself noticed. Rowan Vine was sent on as a replacement to see if he could fare better. In fact it was another familiar Forest sub who nearly had the biggest impact. Dexter Blackstock, given a mixed reception by the fans, raced on to a pass from Majewski which gave Cerny palpitations before the Rs keeper managed to block. Vine and Akos Buzsaky – brought on after 66 minutes - combined sweetly down the right for Helguson to head onto the roof of the net as Rangers revived a bit for the closing quarter. But it was not quite enough to produce the win boss Jim Magilton craved. www.londoninformer.co.uk/london-sport/london-football/london-qpr/2009/08/22/rs-miss-out-again-64767-24507409/

I don't really know if I am enjoying watching Rangers at the moment. Tuesday night left me depressed beyond belief as we would have walked away with at least a draw if we had a striker and Forest today, like Blackpool, were there for the taking in the first half after chance after chance went begging for us today.
It's not as though we are playing badly to begin with. Quite the opposite. Our build up play is great to watch, Routledge is on fire at the moment and Faurlin does seem to be an excellent buy (whatever the price).
It's the two problems that I and others have been harping on about since god knows when that is still our achilles heel: lack of a goalscorer and homegrown talent that loves the club and will run his socks off for ninety minutes plus to get the goal we need and not the present wage earners we have at the moment, content to sit back for the last ten minutes at home, at 1-1, when we are yet to win this season.
Mind you can you blame them? Even if they do get the ball into the opponents box we all know there's going to be no one there to finish it.
Unbelievably frustrating.
Today was more of the same. Great build up play in the first half, no one in the box good enough to capitalise on that and so we need a wonder goal to score. Today it was Leg's turn and he did take it exceptionally well. Great goal. In the second half Forest came at us more and bullied us off the park. It must off been embarassing for Magilton to watch, playing at home and being overun by an average midfield at best to the point we stood off them and allowed them to casually stroll into our half before scoring the equaliser and nearly the winner, as Stewart cleared off the line from Blackstock.
The problem was there is no leader on the pitch without Rowlands and no solid defensive cover without Mahon, whom we really missed today as Legs, playing the anchor role, was often caught out of position either going forward or just missing in the middle of the park. Faurlin will have to learn how to cover for him if they play together in the middle, as he has an amazing engine and ran all over the park today in an impressive home debut. With more championship minutes under his belt he will be an exceptional player, probably on fire come November, so get the extinguishers ready.
Cerny: Solid and dependable and even pulled off a 'photo save' though it cost us a corner as the ball was going wide.
Borrowdale: Not good today. Going forward played some nice stuff but was nowhere most off the game defensively, at one stage walking back as Forest broke down the right and then he blamed Taraabt for not covering for him when he had all the time to run back himself. The fact that this was in the first half makes it more shocking. Slow and unfit, the boy needs to pull his socks up.
Ramage: Defensively very good, but poor distribution is beginning to creep back into his game.
Hall: Very good in the first half but started limping after 17mins after making a great sliding tackle and then went down running back after a corner and managed to last until half-time. Played very well though and a fit Fitz Hall on todays form would be a great asset to our squad.
Stewart: Battled their center-forward all afternoon, won most of the tussles and cleared off the line from Blackstock. Good game.
Leigertwood: Great goal, was far more effective in the first half but got bypassed in the second half and ended up fairly annonymous as the game went on.
Faurlin: Ran everywhere, ran back and then ran everwhere again. Superb first touch, some excellent link up play with those around him. Just needs time to settle and then might possibly shine. Looks like the real deal.
Routledge: On form and on fire. Showing far more passion than last season and always looking to put in a cross. First name on the team sheet for me at the moment.
Taraabt: Played really well though kept turning into players to beat them when he should of simply played it into open space for either himself or a team-mate to run onto, but he is improving in that area, though slowly. Still looks very dangerous when he goes on one of his runs and is great to watch. Should track back more and help out defensively but The Gorm spotted that today so I expect he will judging from The Gorm's reaction.
Helguson: Waited 89mins to actually do anything of note and then was unlucky with a decent header across the goal that just dropped onto the roof of the net.
Pellicori: Started strongly made some nice runs into the box, but was frozen out by their defense after 30mins and was rarely involved after that. Once he used to the game over here I reckon he could get 10 goals this season as his movement is good and his desire is there as well. Given time he will settle and then hopefully start knocking the odd goal in.
Vine: Nowhere near his best. Had a weak shot on goal and does not seem to be anywhere near match fitness yet. I think the season has started a couple of months to early for him and he needs to build his confidence back up. Stayed far to forward for his style of play and should be allowed to drift into the midfield to pick the ball up. However we have no other option but to play him as an out and out striker so good luck with that.
Gorkss: Good but not as good as last years form. Seems to be a little unsteady with the ball on the floor at the moment and can find himself marking no one in the box at times but never misses a header. Hopefully will get a run in the side and be back to his best soon.
Buzsacky: Gave us a bit more bite when he came on and is another one slowly coming back to his best. Didn't play badly but like most we know he is better than today and we just have to wait for him to return to full fitness and find his form though I'm sure it won't take long with him.
All in all deeply frustrating as we are a striker away from burying teams by half time and with our midfield it's blatently possible to get in the top 6 if we get that striker.
Though hardly worth booing at full time. I never boo but understand those that do when it's justified. Today it was definately not justified. Not least because the men to boo weren't there.
On a personal note it was a pleasure to meet Q Block Pete before the game and shake his hand. He is a lot shorter and wider in real life but has a lovely smile!
Also I stood 5ft away from Sir Stanley as we both were outside having a cigarette at half time! I went back inside for the second half as he walked off towards the Springbok.
Wish I had gone with him.

DAVIES KEEN TO RETAIN AUTONOMY Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies insists any possible bigger role for David Pleat at the City Ground must not affect his own job. Television pundit and former Tottenham boss Pleat is currently a consultant to the Forest board, who are assessing his future involvement. Speaking after the 1-1 draw at QPR, Davies said: "I was asked by the chief executive (Mark Arthur) about the role of the football consultant. "I was told David now has more time on his hands. My view is that David's role or anyone's at that level is none of my business. It's something for the board to decide. "Every manager should be able to manage the direction of the team. In modern football you have middle men, chief executives and football consultants - whatever you want to call them. "They're in football to stay, but the manager must be able to direct and advise on which way the football team goes if he is responsible for what goes on." Davies stressed Pleat's presence did not cast doubt over his future, saying: "Don't misunderstand me. I have known David a long time and never had a cross word with him. I will not be walking over this." But he added: "I've identified clearly three defenders and got none of them. Now I cannot identify to you why we didn't get them. "We have defensive frailties and I cannot tell you why we are having to play with an outside-right at right-back." Forest went behind at Loftus Road when Mikele Leigertwood fired into the top corner from 30 yards. They hit back 12 minutes into the second half. Ex-QPR keeper Lee Camp's kick was flicked on by Dele Adebola, and David McGoldrick sneaked between defenders Gary Borrowdale and Kaspars Gorkss to fire home. Both teams are still awaiting their first league win of the season. But Davies said: "Anyone watching this club will see there has been an outstanding progression, even if it's not being rewarded with the results. "We are 80 per cent of the way there, and we'll keep working with what we've got and continue to make progress. "You can see the quality we've got. We were complacent against Watford but excellent against Reading, West Brom and QPR, and how we're sitting with just two points is remarkable." QPR boss Jim Magilton said: "It was a wonderful strike from Mikele and after that you'd have thought we might have gone on and taken control. "At half-time there was a precautionary message because we hadn't defended properly - and lo and behold a defensive lapse then led to a goal. "We have to stop giving away chances, because at the moment we are being punished for it. "There's a nervousness about us. I think these lads are hoping to win rather than expecting to, but it is still a work in progress. "Everyone is saying we should sign a striker. I feel like we do have goals in our team, although if a good player comes up I will of course be trying to get them." www.sportinglife.com/football/live/quotes/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/09/08/22/SOCCER_QPR_2nd_Nightlead.html

The Sunday Times August 23, 2009
Billy Davies claims control despite appointment of David Pleat Queen’s Park Rangers 1 Nottingham Forest 1 Barry Flatman at Loftus Road Both teams are still looking for their first win of the season, both managers curious to know exactly where they stand with their employees. But whereas QPR’s Jim Magilton is accepted as having one of the most precarious jobs in the Championship after five of his predecessors have been shown the door in the last two years, Nottingham Forest’s Billy Davies is curious to know the influence of ‘football consultant’ David Pleat. Davies was approached by Forest’s chief executive Mark Arthur this week who informed the manager that Pleat ‘has more time on his hands’ after being deemed surplus to requirements as part of the ITV commentary team. “I said to him that’s none of my business and it’s got nothing to do with me,” replied the Scot who succeeded Colin Calderwood last season. However Davies is frustrated that three defensive players he has identified as transfer targets in recent weeks have failed to materialise and is looking for answers. Davies sees Pleat’s task at the club as simply a friend and confidante to chairman Nigel Doughty and he is equally emphatic on his own task. “Every manager should be allowed to manage the team,” said Davies. “Modern football is full of middle men, whatever name you give them; directors of football, general managers, football consultants. But the manager is the man that should be in control.” If points were awarded for inventiveness and the will to attack then Forest would have headed back to Nottingham with three bolstering their account. Newly recruited Polish international Radoslaw Majewski was a constant nuisance to the QPR defence and twice might have give Forest an early lead. With only two minutes gone he stretched Radek Cerny into a double save and then four minutes before the interval tested the goalkeeper with a bending free kick. For the most part QPR were inferior in work rate, cohesiveness and simple imagination. Home debutant Alejandro Faurlin was treading a neat path through midfield but his clever touches lacked support and when opportunities did come Adel Taarabt, on a season’s loan from Tottenham Hostpur, failed to impress the watching Joe Jordan by being horrendously lax in his finishing. Yet QPR were to take the lead completely against the run of play. Forest goalkeeper Lee Camp had spent the best part of three years in the employment of the opposition and yet found himself completely flatfooted as Mikele Leigertwood advanced from his normally withdrawn role in the centre of midfield and moved towards the right angle of the penalty area to bend an adroitly flighted left-footed shot into the net. Even the most ardent of West London supporter would have struggled to argue the lead was deserved . So long as Forest maintained their pressure, it seemed they would be rewarded and so it turned out 11 minutes after the interval. McGoldrick, who arrived from Southampton during the summer for £1million, had seen a curving shot fractionally miss the left handed post just before half-time but he was far more careful with his finishing when the goal next beckoned. The goal was undeniably Route One as Camp aimed a long clearance forward and the seasoned head of Adebola delivered just the right kind of flick for McGoldrick to run onto and strike in a rising volley from 15 yards to score his first ever goal for his hometown club. “How we are sitting with only two points to our name so far this season is really quite remarkable,” said Davies. “I just cannot believe that we didn’t win that one.” Magilton was not about to argue with that assessment although he made his views plain to players afterwards. “I was disappointed with the quality of our play today and we had a few choice words in the dressing room,” said the Irishman who knows he is not blessed with an abundance of time to impress his employers. At home to a team that (like us) hadn't won this season and Magilton says " what was important was not to lose the game after a defeat in midweek.”London InformerRangers are showing nerves, Magilton admits Aug 22 2009 By Yann Tear Jim Magilton blamed nerves for what he believed was his team's worst performance under his leadership so far. The Rs led Nottingham Forest thanks to a handsome strike from Mikele Leigertwood, but failed to capitalise on their advantage as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. “I thought it was probably our poorest performance so far,” the Rangers boss said. “We afforded Forest too much room and too many chances for my liking. “There was a nervousness about us. I think these lads are hoping to win rather than going out and stamping their authority on the game. “But what was important was not to lose the game after a defeat in midweek.” Magilton says his faith in his team has not been shaken by the lack of league wins so far. “It's a work in progress,” he said. “I know what they can potentially achieve and I believe we have been unfortunate up until today. “The quality of our play today wasn't where it was in the last few games. But they will get better. They need to win a game and then confidence flows.” Magilton added: “Mikele scored a great goal and you would imagine we would take a strangelhold of the game, really grasp the nettle and go on and win the game. “But at half time, there was a precautionary note because we didn't defend properly and lo and behold we gave away a poor defensive goal.” www.londoninformer.co.uk/london-sport/london-football/london-qpr/2009/08/22/rangers-are-showing-nerves-magilton-admits-64767-24508464/

Vert thorough comprehensive and knowledgable. That linesman who whistled play dead cost Busz a goal and us a win. It is so confounding. The officials sound inept in other matches too. The League as a body must do something about this. Cannot understand why it is tolerated year in year out. They are obviously using people that have not had appropriate training to be football officials.

Daily Star Sunday
MAGILTON STUCK IN THE PITS 23rd August 2009 By Paul BrownFLASHY QPR owner Flavio Briatore was busy at the European Grand Prix while his football club did their best impression of a clapped-out old banger. The Renault team boss has yet to see his side show much va-va-voom for coach Jim Magilton, who hasn’t led the team to a league victory this season. But he was lucky to miss this one as QPR were played off the park by a Forest team who will wonder how they are still waiting for a win. Mikele Leigertwood did put Rangers in the driving seat with a cracker in the 26th minute, letting rip from 25 yards to put the hosts ahead. But the goal did not faze Forest who continued to boss the game and it was no real surprise when David McGoldrick fired them level. Rangers old boy Lee Camp hit a long free-kick forward and David McGoldrick stretched to fire Dele Adebola’s header into the net from 10 yards for his first goal since a £1million move from Southampton. News of The World
Billy Davies is fuming over Pleat appointment 23/08/2009 BILLY DAVIES is not taking David Pleat's arrival as a consultant at Nottingham Forest very well. And boss Davies is fuming at talk that Pleat, who lost his job commentating for ITV, will get more involved. He said: "David Pleat has not been appointed by me and his role is none of my business. But there's not a chance in hell that I'll walk out of this club. "Every manager should be allowed to manage his team. Modern football is full of middlemen, directors of football, chief executives, football consultants, general managers. "Whatever name you give them, they are here to stay but managers must be able to manage and I will never change my mind on that." Davies attack on Pleat overshadowed an entertaining affair at Loftus Road. Forest took the game to Rangers but got hit by a 25th-minute sucker punch. QPR's Mikele Leigertwood does not score many and will probably never score one as good as the 25-yard curler that beat Lee Camp. But the visitors deservedly got back in the game 12 minutes after half-time. Dele Adebola's clever flick split the QPR defence. That put David McGoldrick through and he hammered his first Forest goal home. Rangers got booed off and boss Jim Magilton admitted: "That was our poorest performance of the season." www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/football/464341/Davies-attack-on-Pleat-overshadows-entertaining-draw.html

Sunday People/Chris Davies Rangers rescued by RadoNottingham Forest should have won this game in a canter but had to be content with a point at Loftus Road. The draw left both clubs still searching for their first victory of the season yet QPR should look upon the point as a bonus rather than two dropped because they were under the cosh for long spells. Radoslaw Majewski was named the man of the match and did enough to have won an entertaining clash. A combination of wayward finishing and often desperate defending by Rangers restricted Forest to one goal but boss Billy Davies will take heart from his team's polished performance. Forest almost took the lead in the fourth minute when Radek Cerny made a superb double save, initially beating out Majewski's shot and then parrying Joe Garner's follow up. Despite the intelligent properties of Rangers' Argentine midfielder Alejandro Faurlin, Forest assumed early control and Damion Stewart and Fitz Hall needed to be commanding in the air as the visitors sent over some testing crosses. Forest almost grabbed the lead when Garner connected with Chris Haynes' low centre from the left and in the 20th minute David McGoldrick missed a golden chance after a good run by Majewski but the midfielder's low drive from 15 yards was inches wide. Then the dangerous Majewski went close with a stinging half volley. Adel Taarabt rushed a 23rd-minute shot when he had time to control the ball. Gary Borrowdale shot high over the bar when he should have hit the target but in the 26th minute Rangers took the lead when Mikele Leigertwood beat former R's keeper Lee Camp with a stunning shot from 20 yards. An action-packed half came to a close with Cerny diving to his right to keep out a 22-yard free-kick by Majewski. Soon after the restart Tarrabt's strong run set up a chance for Alessandro Pellicori but his shot was weak and wide. The goal Forest had been threatening finally came in the 58th minute. Camp's long free-kick was helped on by Dele Adebola and McGoldrick volleyed home from 15 yards. From The Sun "...b]Rangers have made an indifferent start under Jim Magilton, who has the tough task of satisfying the club's trigger-happy co-owner Flavio Briatore. [/b] Magilton admitted: "The expectations here have risen because of who bought the club but no one is going to put me under more pressure to succeed than myself. "Flavio has been very supportive. We'll persevere and with the players we have we'll get there." The SunFOREST starlet David McGoldrick has been ordered to lose weight by boss Billy Davies. McGoldrick's first goal since his £1million move from Southampton got a deserved point for his side. But Davies has warned there's fat chance of the 21-year-old keeping his place unless he gets in shape. Davies said: "There's no doubt the lad has outstanding talent - he's just not fit enough. We have got to get his body shape and his conditioning better. He's young and his off-the-pitch lifestyle needs to be assessed. "His training tempo needs to be addressed and we've got to teach him what it's all about. "I'm not saying he abuses himself off the field. What I am saying is David needs to be fitter. "He's a top-class player with a wonderful football brain and is an outstanding creator and scorer of goals - but he needs to lose weight." Forest were trailing to Mikele Leigertwood's 25-yard scorcher when McGoldrick equalised on 57 minutes. Keeper Kaspars Gorkss and Gary Borrowdale both hesitated, allowing McGoldrick to gobble up Dele Adebola's flick-on and fire home. Both clubs are still waiting for their first league win of the season despite their big spending. But Davies has played down talk of a rift with David Pleat, whose involvement as a consultant could increase now he has lost his TV pundit job. Davies declared: "I've not got a problem with David. But I came here to manage this club." Rangers have made an indifferent start under Jim Magilton, who has the tough task of satisfying the club's trigger-happy co-owner Flavio Briatore. Magilton admitted: "The expectations here have risen because of who bought the club but no one is going to put me under more pressure to succeed than myself.
