Steve Lomas is well-known to fans up and down the country for his no-nonsense displays as a midfielder with West Ham, Manchester City and QPR, and he is no different as a manager.
The former Northern Ireland midfielder is now in charge at St Neots Town in Cambridgeshire, and though his side had a resounding 4-1 win at Woodbridge in the first stage of The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON, the tough taskmaster was not completely happy with his side’s performance.
“We went 2-0 up and the lads thought that was job done, but it was a hot sticky day and a tough game,” he said. “It was not our best performance, to be honest, but a win is a win and we are through to the next round.”
Shane, Fox, Lee Bassett and Liam Harrold were among the goals for St Neots, who face Mildenhall Town, 3-0 winners at Stowmarket Town, in the next round.
“They are managed by Simon Charlton, who is an old mate of mine, so that will be good,” added Lomas. “But it is back to league business on Tuesday before that.”
Meanwhile, the dream of FA Cup glory was cruelly shattered for Cadbury's Athletic after their 7-0 thrashing by Stone Dominoes.
Nine absences through injury and other reasons meant it was a makeshift team from the chocolate makers. John Peckham, Cadbury's club secretary said: "I don't want to make excuses but we had nine regulars out and a centre-half in goal.
"They were a young group of lads. Amazingly we could have been 2-0 up early on but didn"t take our chances. Then we had seven minutes of madness and were three goals down by half time.
"The lads could not get their composure back and it just get worse. But fair play to the opposition, they won comfortably in the end"
