Edit:- 35 Years ago - 1987 since QPR under Jim Smith and new Chairman David Bulstrode won at West Ham - as QPR made a serious challenge (for a while) for the First Division Title - In the summer, QPR had bought Paul Parker and Dean Coney and Kevin Brock and David Pizanti and O'Neil....And later that season, Bannister sold and Falco and Trevor Francis in. (And maybe one or two others, I think) Except for Bill Power ( *and now Tony Fernandes) - It's been a long time since a QPR Chairman has been widely liked/admired/respected. Nostalgia postings by QPR Report ;D Flashback 35 Years: Bulstrode's QPR Started with Win at West Ham - Paul Parker's Debut- 35 years ago, August 15, 1987: QPR under Jim Smith/Peter Shreeves, having survived/escaped from the proposed merger with Fulham, under the new ownership of David Bulstrode, kicked off their new season with a 3-0 win at West Ham. Making his QPR debut: Paul Parker. (Also Dean Coney, Kevin Brock and Mark Dennis). QPR team that day against West Ham.Seaman Dennis Fenwick McDonald Fereday Parker Brock Allen (M) Banniser Byrne Coney In the early weeks, QPR actually headed the First Division Table...and ended the season 5th with 67 points and top London Club. Later that season, Bannister was sold; Mark Falco was bought and Trevor Francis joined as a player. A year later, Bulstrode was sadly qprreport.blogspot.com/2007/08/flashback-20-years-bulstrodes-qpr.html

Edit: And 52 years ago today: August 15, 1970 (just after our Mexico World Cup ), another season opener: - Birmingham 2 QPR 1R QPR (under Les Allen and Gordon Jago) lost 2-1 at Birmingham. Mike Kelly making his Birmingham debut after having been sold by QPR. However for whatever reason, QPR chose not to give their new goalie - Phil Parkes - his debut. Starting with Alan Spratley. Spratley Clement Hunt Hazell Gillard Francis Venables Sibley Leach Saul Bridges Bridges scored for QPR... The following week, Parkes did make his QPR Debut (I was there ) at home to Leicester. In the Leicester goal: Peter Shilton. Unfortunately QPR lost 3-1 at Loftus Road. But when QPR played Birmingham later in this season.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1DMG9fCdB4

Vividly remember that game at West Ham. One of those opening day games when you sort of walk it without being all that superior. Mark Dennis, Brock et al. Vast spaces in the West Ham defence, it seemed.
Stuck in my mind partly because West Ham supporters near me uttered the traditional 'come on you Irons', but I forgot Thames Ironworks and I took it to refer to their effeminate performance! The clue should have been in the upbeat way they said it. Still, 3-0 away, eh? Now it's 0-4 and 0-5 at home. O tempora, O morons!
