Crystal Palace have been banned from signing players due to a dispute over unpaid
bonuses and signing-on fees from last season.
The cheque's in the post: Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan insists all players - past and present - will get their money
Palace have been hit with the embargo from the Football League, which comes as a huge embarrassment for Neil Warnock’s team as they prepare for the launch of the new Championship season.
Warnock’s side are due to complete their pre-season programme tonight against non-League Whyteleafe and start their League campaign on Saturday against Plymouth at Selhurst Park.
They have added Darren Ambrose to their squad on a free transfer from relegated Charlton but the new ruling means they will be unable to sign more recruits until the row is resolved.
Midfielder John Oster, who left Palace at the end of last season, revealed in July how he had complained to the FA through his agent, Mel Stein, about outstanding payments from the club.
James Scowcroft, Paul Ifill and Shefki Kuqi were others who claimed they were owed money, and chairman Simon Jordan insisted they would be paid at the end of July.
Jordan, who was unavailable for comment last night, has said previously: ‘The bonus
payments are paid annually at my discretion in either June or July and this year they will be paid in July.
‘Those members of the playing staff who are staying have been paid in the normal way and those who are leaving will be paid by cheque.
