Southampton Official Site - Stern Declines Saints Offer

Southampton Football Club can confirm that out of contract striker Stern John has turned down a generous new offer from the Club.

Over the past two weeks the Club have held constructive dialogue with both the player and his agent. Manager Alan Pardew believed the player wished to stay at the Club and be an integral part of the new era at Saints.

The Club had offered an attractive two year contract for John to remain. We were informed this morning the player would decline this offer and that as a free agent, he wished to pursue other options within the Championship.

While disappointed in the way this episode has concluded, Saints wish to make it clear that our new executive team and first team management are working hard to recruit the right players to help enhance the squad and we hope to be able to announce further additions in the coming days.

Obviously theres no money to spend. Otherwise we would have bought a striker reserve goalk and left back. He will have to play Ygrab

because we have to get something out of the money we spent. Also well be loaning players out too. Look were skint, sell em off loan em out, and love QPR because we have to.

Well if we call in that 150,000 pound loan (or whatever the precise amount) that would be a start to paying for a striker.

And if we stop buying players that the manager doesn't want that would be another good step

And if we made sure that the players we were signing were good fitness risks...

Stern John Joins Crystal Palace on a ONE year deal. (Good signing)

Palace Sign Stern John
Posted on: Thu 30 Jul 2009
Neil Warnock today completed the signing of 32 year old Trinidad and Tobago striker Stern John on a one year deal with the club.

The new Eagles number 9 started his professional career in 1996 in America and played for Malta Carib Alcons, Carolina Dynamo, New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers and Columbus Crew.

During his time at Columbus Crew John hit 44 goals in 55 games and it was that scoring rate which brought him to the attention of Nottingham Forest. In the summer of 1999 he completed a £1.5m move across the Atlantic Ocean to play at the City Ground.

After 70 appearances and 18 goals Birmingham City would be his next destination in 2002 and would hit a similar goal to game ratio with the West Midland based outfit, finding the net 16 times in 78 appearances.

On the 14th September 2004 John joined Coventry City and in his first season he finished as the team second highest goalscorer, hitting 12 goals despite starting in less than half of the Sky Blues games.

After a period out of the side and no first team opportunities forthcoming, John joined Derby County on loan and played seven times for the Rams.

Roy Keane would be the next manager to snap up the International striker in the 2007 January transfer window and John would score on his debut as the Black Cats beat Southend 4-0 on the 17th February.

Less than six months later the 5ft11 forward would be on the move again, this time to Southampton as part of the deal which saw Kenwyne Jones link up with Keane's team.
John would finish the 2007/08 season as the Championship's fourth top scorer with 19 goals for Southampton.

The 2002 Trinidad and Tobago player of the year would sign on loan for Bristol City until the end of the season in October 2008 and scored his first goal for the club in their 4-1 defeat to Reading.

On the International scene Stern John has hit 69 goals in 109 games and was instrumental in helping his country qualify for the 2006 World Cup and played in all three group games.
