Another proper fullback www.lequipe.fr/Football/20090725_154053_vignal-lens-teste-par-qpr.htmlThe rather crude translation is Vignal (Lens) trialed by QPR Lens' Grégory Vignal will go to England for four days; trial at the Queens Park Rangers, club which plays in Championship (the 2nd division). He will have occasion to take part in two friendly matches and will find over there its former fellow national Adel Taarabt, lent by Tottenham to the QPR.

not sure what to make of this to be honest....hes got the experience we need at LB & no harm in giving a trial...but read yesterday that a RB was still unattached & was infact on loan at ipswich with Jim last season that would be a great signing & that player is MAURICE VOLTS

Welcomd Stuieang Volz looked decent when I've seen him play and could be a very good shout. Can't remember seeing Vignal but we are so short at fullback he has got to be worth checking out. I can't believe we are still scratching around for fullbacks with the season around the corner. Oh and still no striker. It's Groundhog Day.

I don't know nothing about Vignal as a player and am not one for stats as nothing can beat actually seeing a player as stats can't really tell you about passion, intelligence, movement etc. which are all important to me when judging a player, so I just 'hope' he is any good. It is a bit frustrating being linked with players that we have never heard of before but surely the onus is on us to widen our knowledge of european players and to stop worrying about the trepidation of the unknown? Maurice Voltz is a free agent and if he is willing to step down a division rather than going back to Germany where I dare say he could command the same wage in a comparitive side to us then he would be an intelligent signing. He's solid as a defender, likes to go forward and can pass the ball. In our division I think he would do very well. I also think we looked at or were at least linked to him about 12 months ago but nothing concrete. He does seem to like living in West London though, if the video on his website is anything to go by so it's worth a shout as we do need two fullbacks and now at least two more strikers, including Picarelli whom I'm expecting to sign simply due to the amount of playing time he has had in our friendlies so far. Actually looking at a full back to play as a full back? Onwards and upwards!!!!!!!

I would happily have both Vignall and Voltz. Dangerous ground though, as Eus says, full backs playing for us in their proper positions? We'll play them in midfield then obviously. Echo zed's welcome Stu.

Vignal was one of Houllier's purchases at Liverpool and on the whole those players were mediocre but Vignal has played in the Prem, top flight in Scotland, France & Spain which suggests some quality there and I believe he takes a good freekick & penalty. He played regularly for a poor Southampton side and the view of the Pompey fans was he was better going forward than defending. Non scientific but some Liverpool views on when he left forums.thisisanfield.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7674&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&sid=e21033f4dad3053a0925144a78318fd1

Is there a danger that we are actually going to sign a "Full Back"? Madness, complete & utter madness.

Moritz Volz would be a good signing at our level except he was on loan at Ipswich last season and they had the offer to take him on a free but have so far not snapped him up. Makes me think that something is wrong...

Nice one, good work.
Just a long shot but I suspect Keane had heard of Volz with him still being at the club for the last two games when Keane took over.
Thanks for the tip though, I googled and Volz has so far failed to to make a playing return from knee surgery.

I think that I'm still half asleep, I interpreted the headline as that he was on (a legal) trial. Am I daft or what ;D

You know we are trialing this one that one,. this stuff will make the first few weeks another shambles with no set team. Still have abundance of midfielders and abundance declare of backs, and misere on goalkeeps and misere ouvert strike force. Solo whist terms. Misere ouvert is every trickplayed with hand open. Ouvert.

Bump! Thankfully we were ultimately able to avoid signing a fullback...But now a year later under Warnock, we're in danger of doing so
