Have to go back and bump the "How much will we spend this summer: Incoming vs outgoing"
And also implications on WATRB we're interested in Cranie
(But perish the thought we should actually go out and buy a genuine proven goalscorer (or a young one with a proven pedigree).
But hey, we've Pellicori.

I'll be gutted if this happens; I like Hogan, a good lad, that we should persevere with IMO.

Good young English player. He will be worth a lot more after this season.
I would sell Gaz, Cook, Rowly before him. Sousa knows a good player when he see's one. Didn't he have lunch with Hogan and Vine?

Meanwhile, no Pablo Counago to Swansea (unless there's a change) (as Swansea lost 2-0 in Spain. Post Match comments www.swanseacity.net/page/Latest/0,,10354~1733010,00.html ) Swansea Official Site - Pablo turns down Swans offer Posted on: Sat 25 Jul 2009Swansea City's search for a new striker looks set to continue after discussions with Ipswich Town hit-man Pablo Counago stalled today. Swans chairman Huw Jenkins confirmed from the club's training base in Spain that talks with Counago's agent failed to conclude a deal, despite the fact that the two clubs had already agreed an undisclosed transfer free. "We spoke with the agent, but Pablo has turned down our offer,'' confirmed Jenkins. "It seems that the player is happy to stay at Ipswich. "We are obviously disappointed, but Paulo (Sousa) has always said that he has a number of options and targets. "Pablo's decision to turn down our offer means we will now start to pursue those options.'' The 6ft Spanish striker, who is currently recovering from a groin injury after scoring 10 times for Ipswich last season, had been given permission yesterday to talk to the Swans. The 29-year-old made a lasting impression on the Swans last season after scoring twice in their 2-2 draw at Portman Road. He also scored in front of the new Swans boss when Ipswich won 3-1 at QPR's Loftus Road. Counago has netted 56 goals for Ipswich in two spells at the club which has seen him make over 200 appearances. The former Spanish Under-21 international, who was also part of the Spain side that won the U20 World Cup in 1999, was originally signed from Celta Vigo in 2001 on a free transfer. He left Ipswich to join Malaga in the summer of 2005 and spent two years in Spain before returning in July 2007 as a free agent. www.swanseacity.net/page/Latest/0,,10354~1733072,00.html

Do not want to see him go but obviously Sousa knew that if we got Taraabt we would be willing to part with Hogie so I can see this one happening if Hogie wants it.
Not to sure how many midfielders we need though and if Cook doesn't come back to his best soon we will be light down the left hand side if he goes. Hogie is also versatile, can play upfront or direct thru the middle off a striker and just when we get the player he naturally plays best with, Taraabt, we might let him go.
I say keep him as he is young and has potential and also as it leaves us nicely balanced with a large midfield squad with a good mix of youth and experience and then just buy one decent striker and a couple of full backs.
If the board think that we have to do it to afford new players then how long do they think the majority will be willing to subsidise their mistakes?

Heard a little wibble today that Cook will be out for four to five months.

I can believe that.
You made a good point about Adel and Hogan earlier up the thread Baz. Their link up play was excellent from the off.
Hogan really is a player for the future. It would be a terribly shortsighted move getting rid.

Heard a little wibble today that Cook will be out for four to five months. Scott said something similar just now on WATRB. I on the other hand think if that was the case, the club would have told us... July 16 London Informer London Informer - Cook is far from ready- LEE COOK is set to miss the start of the season. The QPR forward had keyhole surgery on a damaged knee in May but has yet to return to any type of training. - Speculation over the stricken player's condition was laid to rest this week when new boss Jim Magilton admitted Cook will not appear in pre-season - and it's doubtful he'll face Ian Holloway's Blackpool in the season opener at Loftus Road on August 8. - Magilton said: "He is resting at the minute and under the hands of the club's medical team. He'll not feature for the next few weeks. - "Yes, he's got a chance for the start of the season - but we'll see." The Hammersmith-born player's season was curtailed with a recurrence of the problem, and his campaign was a hit-and-miss affair which he blamed on the season before when the same injury prevented him from kicking a ball during his doomed stay with Fulham. - However, Martin Rowlands is champing at the bit to get some action after missing most of the last campaign as well, and Magilton admits his biggest problem is holding the Irish international back. - He said: "We've got to keep the reins on Martin and take that responsibility from him. - "We'll assess the situation on a daily basis - but it will be a couple of weeks and after we get back from Slovenia and Croatia before he gets some minutes on a pitch." Ealing Gazette The Mirror: June 13, 2009 Lee Cook Operation? - "...QPR want Danny Rose on a season-long loan from Spurs after learning Lee Cook will be out for four months. - Winger Cook, 26, had an operation on his knee last week to clean up a niggling injury and is likely to be sidelined until October.,,,

Good timing, a chance meeting and conversation earlier today revealed what I posted. Apparently, not even any sort of secret, common knowledge. Except to us of course.

The Cook thing is farcical & I'm not even going to go there, He USED to be a good player & thats it.
Hogan, I like Hogan, I think he is a good lad, you should always persevere with your young players, he has shown potential, to be honest, I see him as a wide player, he is one of those players thats needs to have a sit down with the manager & the manager tells him what he wants to do & that he has confidence in him, to be fair Sousa was doing this before he got sacked for whatever he actually got sacked for ? Your guess is as good as mine, it certainly wasnt for the reasons given.

If you flashback a few months....
"...He said that Cooky has big problems with his knee which the board know about and how he will never be the player he was 2-3 years ago and that the board had given him a 4 and a half year contract! .."

Dont Start.....................! If you remember around the time of the Sheffield Wednesday match it was all, Cookie was MOTM by a mile! ( I thought Mahon was MOTM ), Cookie is super fit! If it wasnt for Flavio Briatore QPR would never even have existed in the first place! From the "Onwards & Upwards" brigade! Every time I go and see QPR play I want us to win, but please, lets not go in for the blatant bullshiezen, to be fair thats why I like posting on here nowadays, people are just not just talking a load of old cobblers to get a few brownie points, embarrassing & doing QPR a disservice IMO.

Rumours that Cook has a bad injury have been everywhere since Sousagate. When Scott/Pete came out with the "it's not bad/just washing his knee out line" I presumed they knew they were being fed a line and it was part of the anti Sousa campaign. Surely nobody is so naive they actually believe Cook was fit last season?

They would if they were told it by certain people.
Funnily enough there was a story in the Standard the day after the Sousa thread saying Cook wasn't fit, where he basically said the same, hadn't been fit all season, still had problems with the knee and had a special fitness regime for the close season to build it up.
Having had a bad knee injury myself can only say from personal experience it is very rare to come back as good as before.

One of the arguments - besides that Cook is fine, as good as ever, etc - is that we sold Cook for x amount (forget that a large fee was contingent on games etc, so we didn't get + 15% I think on to Watford)
Anyway: The argument we bought Cook for a lot less than we sold him. That's true. But we still paid a lot of money - a million? and gave a long contract - and that money could have been spent elsehwere.
It was said that Paladini wanted him back. It was also said wanted him as a fan favourite. Neither arguments to buy a player.
Cook after all had been out for the entire year at Fulham. Would think extra, extra care should have been paid.
