Those poor, benighted US soccer fans: They should be grateful that Beckham even deigned to come to the USA (forget the multi-million dollar deals and the fact that Beckham repeatedly spoke about wanting to leave US soccer/return to Europe)From the BBC
Beckham confronts fans after boosDavid Beckham was involved in a confrontation with Los Angeles fans during his first home game since returning from a spell at AC Milan. The 34-year-old England midfielder missed the first half of the Major League Soccer season after extending his loan deal with the Italian side. The Galaxy were playing Milan in a friendly and Beckham was jeered by sections of the sell-out crowd. "The majority of fans have been great," Beckham insisted afterwards. "It was only one or two that, you know, it was to be expected. "Sometimes it goes beyond it. I tried to shake one of the guy's hands but he didn't want any of it. That's the way it is." His charisma is very important for other players. We are really happy with his situation AC Milan manager Leonardo Boos were louder than cheers as the players were introduced prior to kick-off and every touch from the former England captain was jeered early on by sections of the 27,000 sell-out crowd. Several fans made their displeasure known with banners and as the players went off at the interval Beckham had to be escorted from the field by security as he walked over to an area of seats to confront jeering fans. One supporter jumped down and had to be restrained before being taken away. It marked the end of a turbulent week for Beckham since his return to the United States, who also had to placate team-mates following comments by Galaxy captain Landon Donovan. The pair met with coach Bruce Arena after Beckham responded to the remarks from Donovan that accused the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player of being unprofessional. Goalscorer Gordon is congratulated by Donovan (left) and Beckham The match itself ended 2-2, Beckham doing his talking on the pitch by having a hand in both Galaxy goals. For the first he played a trademark cross-field ball to Donovan, who then set up Alan Gordon, while for the second, and with Galaxy 2-1 down, it was Beckham's corner that was headed home by Bryan Jordan. After that he turned to a section of fans who had been particularly vociferous and shrugged his shoulders, while he applauded those fans who had been supportive when he was withdrawn in the 75th minute. "There's not another player on this team or in this league who can make those kinds of plays," stated Donovan. "That's going to be crucial for us." Earlier this year, Beckham said he wanted to remain with the Italian club rather than return to the Galaxy. He also revealed earlier this month he would consider a return to the Premier League because it would improve his chances of playing for England at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. newsvote.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/8158547.stm

First year he came over they got 66,000 up New York way for their game with the Galaxy, last year it was 46,000 this year 23,000 Why Galaxy made him come back God only knows, maybe it's thinking that any press is good Funny thing to me is that their top baseball mercenary Manny Ramirez who quit on the Red Sox amongst other ignorant/foolish moves was busted for steroids this season. After his 50 game suspension, the L.A. fans welcomed the cheater back as if he were some kinda hero If anything I'd have to guess they've got better "soccer" fans than baseball. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out David

Very badly advised by 19/Simon Fuller. He is a nice guy and knows the music/entertainment biz but f@cked up Beckham's football career bigtime.

Nothing too sensational there.
Beckham's never been a shy one. You're not that good by being run of the mill.
Run of the mill would sum up Landon Donavon though.
Carry on guys, drive him back to Europe please. ;D

Hey Mike, was this game on anywhere up your way? Down here I got to see Inter vs. Club America and Seattle vs. Chelsea no signs of the OVER-RATED Galaxy soap opera with Goldenballs and his unhappy sidekick Donovan Guess the great experiment has about run its course. Over 65,000 in Seattle and I didn't hear any booing. MLS should take some of that cash they're wasting on Beckham and give it to Ljunberg

Guardian LA Galaxy fans call David Beckham 'stupid' after clash with supporter • 'He called out a drunk fan. How stupid is that?' • Was Beckham right to react? Vote now in our poll * Marcus Christenson
David Beckham had to be held back by security staff as he attempted to jump a barrier and confront a fan during his first home game with the LA Galaxy after a loan spell with Milan. The former England captain was jeered by a section of the crowd at the Home Depot Center, who feel he has betrayed the club by joining Milan and then saying the standard of football is better in Italy than the US.
Eric Lewis, an LA Galaxy fan who was at the 2–2 draw with Milan, criticised Beckham for being "unprofessional" and "stupid".
"He called the guy out [from the stands]. He called out a drunk fan. How stupid is that?" he said. "He's the player, he's the professional. He should have kept himself under control and he didn't.
"He shouldn't have done that, it was dumb. The guy was inebriated, Beckham should have known that. For a player to call out a fan is ridiculous. He says he's full of class and he's been playing with all the best teams in the world. That showed absolutely no class. He's already gone. We don't even have to make that choice."
Ricardo Vigil, 28, from Los Angeles, said: "So Beckham comes over here, he starts saying, 'Come down here, come down here', so our guy went down there. He called out one of our guys. He instigated that. We boo a lot of players – they don't come out and challenge our guys. We're just here as fans. A security guy got our guy and security held him back.
"We were a little upset. He betrayed our team but don't come calling out one of our fans, that doesn't happen. I don't think he wants to be here, I think he should go."
However Shawn Cervantez, 22, from Sacramento, said Beckham did not appear to be looking for a confrontation when he approached the fans. "As soon as half- time started he came over here and it appeared to me he was coming over here to make amends," she said. "He had his hand out to shake a hand and then one of the guys was giving him the middle finger and I guess they got aggressive with each other and the guy came over the wall and started to attack him. It was unbelievable, really.
"I think that their complaints are legitimate but I think that's a bit much. Their signs are asking him to prove to them that he's here and that they want him to ask for forgiveness. I think that was his gesture when he came over here."http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jul/20/david-beckham-la-galaxy-fans

KLR, just to say, when Beckham was put on the shelf at Madrid, nobody but the yanks came in for him, certainly not Milan. As a result, he had little option as he was in his last year at Madrid and no contract on offer.
As usual, he was brought back in from the cold and rescued Madrid, by which time it was too late for Madrid to offer him a contract. Madrid did try to keep him. Just like with England, discarded and we are on the verge of going out. Brolly wally brings him back suddenly we are back in and virtually qualified. He's then discarded again and out we go at home to Croatia. He still had the cameo of almost dragging us through in that game when belatedly brought on.
England is yet to produce a right sided player that can replace him, on that alone he deserves his place, just like any other player. It's simply the fact that it is Beckham that there is such polarised opinion.

I still think it was Simon Fuller's fault. He could have delayed the signing and hung out for a deal from Europe/Madrid but it was always his plan to go for the american market. This was all about brand Beckham and not footballing reasons. Posh Spice/Fuller nearly ruined his career.

Beckham has been fined One Thousand Dollars for his behaviour BBC Beckham fined over fans incident David Beckham has been fined $1,000 (£600) by Major League Soccer (MLS) following his confrontation with a fan during a friendly against AC Milan. Beckham angered some fans of his LA Galaxy team by missing part of the MLS season while on loan at Milan, and was booed during the game. At half-time, he approached one group of fans and appeared to challenge them to meet him on the pitch. Security staff intervened, and police arrested a fan who left the stands. MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a statement: "Our players should never engage in conduct that can be interpreted as encouraging fans to come out of the stands and on to the field, regardless of the reason." Beckham has insisted he is staying with the LA Galaxy despite the hostile response from some supporters. He said: "At the end of the day, I play my game, whether I get booed or not doesn't matter to me. 606: DEBATE I admire Beckham for wanting to be at his best for as long as he can, so good luck to him at Milan RICHSAZ "But I don't like my family seeing that and hearing that (abuse), from an organised group of fans. "I think it was disrespectful, some of the things that were being said and also some of the banners, but it is what it is." Beckham, 34, joined Milan on loan because he was keen to satisfy England boss Fabio Capello's demand that he play at the highest level to remain in contention for international selection. He is England's most capped outfield player, with 112 appearances, and is keen to play on until the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa. Beckham said he could handle any negative reaction in LA sparked by his attempts to prolong his England career. "It is not about whether I can move on. To be honest, all I'm going to do is play my football, and as long as it's good enough for myself and the team nothing else matters," he said. Beckham has a five-year MLS contract, which began in 2007 and allows for him to spend the off-season on loan at a European club. He added he will be available for England's friendly against the Netherlands in August, if selected. "Everyone knows that I've always been available for my country whether it be a friendly or a qualifying game, so I'm always available," he said. "I've spoken to (Galaxy coach) Bruce (Arena) and he's more than happy that if I get called up for my country he and the club totally support that, so it's not a problem." Asked about rumours he and his family are selling their LA base, Beckham joked: "As far as I know, no. I hope not because I want somewhere to live (here) for quite a few years." newsvote.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/8166356.stm

Beck-ham! BBC - July 27, 2009
Beckham clashes with another fan Beckham was fined £600 for clashing with a Galaxy fan last week England midfielder David Beckham was involved in another confrontation with a fan during Los Angeles Galaxy's match on Saturday. Beckham, 34, exchanged words with a man in an England shirt during the Galaxy's 1-1 draw with the Kansas City Wizards. Beckham, who was fined following a clash with a fan last week, claimed the spectator insulted his wife Victoria. "He shouldn't actually be wearing that shirt because what he was saying about my wife was a disgrace," he said. The former England captain was fined $1,000 (£600) by Major League Soccer last Friday following a confrontation with fans during a recent friendly against AC Milan. Beckham, who missed part of the Major League Soccer season earlier this year when he joined the Italian giants on loan, was booed by a section of the home crowd during the game. At half-time, he approached one group of fans and appeared to challenge them to meet him on the pitch. Security staff intervened, and police arrested a fan who left the stands. Backham also said that he didn't think the fan was English, just seen him on SSN (Beckham that is). Find it strange that he shook his hand though. Got plenty of support also from what I saw.

Looks to me like the guy and his "people" want to tap into the freak show folks The same people that had Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Sarah Palin in/on the news over and over and over. I admit there's a market for that, there's also many who will say just shut the **** up and play your game already. 23,000 turned out to see the Galaxy & Beckham play Red Bulls at Giants Stadium a few weeks back, 79,000 turned out to see the Mexican B team play the USA Q team in the Gold Cup yesterday. Is it just me or are freak shows not as popular as they used to be
