Leeds Official Site - BECKFORD OFF TRANSFER LIST
Leeds United have taken striker Jermaine Beckford off the transfer list.
The striker has one year remaining on his current contract and had been placed on the transfer list in May after his agent rejected a new deal with the club.
But the player, who scored twice in United's 2-2 draw at Shelbourne on Tuesday, will remain at Elland Road after chairman Ken Bates confirmed on Friday that the striker's name had been taken off the transfer list.
"I've discussed the situation with Simon and we've taken Jermaine off the transfer list," the chairman told Yorkshire Radio.
"We're quite happy to keep him, he's under contract until the end of the season, and we're looking forward to him playing his part in getting us promoted this season.
"He didn't ask for a transfer remember. He asked for a wage increase which we offered, but his agent wanted more and we weren't willing to pay.
"Becks is very happy at Leeds. Whatever he has got he gives us, and he is one those players who even if he has a bad game he pops up and scores unlikely goals so he will always contribute.
"Hopefully he will score another 34 goals this season!"

DELIGHTED BOSS IS BACKING BECKS
United manager Simon Grayson says he is delighted that the Jermaine Beckford situation has been resolved and he is urging the striker to fire the club back towards the Championship.
Beckford's name was taken off the transfer list on Friday and the manager firmly believes the ending of the uncertainity surrounding the player's future is the best for all concerned.
"It's a situation that over the last few weeks we wanted to resolve," Grayson told LUTV.
"We have turned down bids for the player which fall a long way short of our valuation of Jermaine.
"We took a stance over the summer that we had to make it clear where we wanted to be as a football club, but Jermaine has come back and he's been ever so good in training and in games.
"I had a chat with him and the chairman and we agreed it was the best thing for the club.
"It was an important situation to be dealt with. We showed our stance by turning the bids down and I don't want him to leave the club because he has proven over the last couple of years how successful he can be."
Beckford is in the final year of his current contract with United, and the manager is hopeful the removal of Jermaine from the transfer list will now put an end to the speculation about his future.
Grayson said: "Every player has his price and if someone offers you ridiculous money you have to consider it - but our intentions are of keeping Jermaine and him being the striker, along with others, who will get us back in the Championship.
"You can never stop rumours, but once the transfer window shuts in August there's nothing can be done about it.
"We didn't want to lose him. He is happy here. The chats I've had with him have all been positive and we felt this was the right stance to take.
"If he runs his contract down and leaves on a free then we will have to run with that, but our ambition is to keep him, get promoted, and be successful."
The manager spoke with the striker at the team's training base in Ireland to discuss the situation.
"He's pleased," said the boss.
"The chat I had with him when I told him what we were doing he said 'look I have no problems with that'.
"Good, quality strikers are a rare commodity. We want to keep our best players. The efforts he's put in have been first class and I'm sure we won't get anything less out of him.
"It's a real positive sign that nothing is going to happen. We still can't stop the speculation, but his attutude has been first class.
"You don't want to lose quality players on the cheap and we've made our stance on that.
"I'm delighted it's happened and hopefully it's a real positive for the club and the fans."
