SENIOR CITIZENS GET KICKS FOR FREE!
Posted on: Fri 17 Jul 2009
Loyal R's fans Bill Fleming and James Buthcart will get their kicks for free next season, thanks to a kind gesture from former Rangers supporter Mr Frederick Whetstone.
Mr Whetstone sadly passed away in 2008, but as an ardent and passionate R's fan, he left a last legacy in W12, leaving money in his will to go towards Season Tickets for senior citizens of the Clubs choice.
Our Box Office staff thought long and hard about who to reward for their ongoing support of the Hoops and Mr Fleming and Mr Butchart - the youngest and oldest senior citizens who accumulated the most Loyalty Points during the 2008/09 season - were informed of the news last week.
Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Wembley-based Mr Fleming (pictured left), aged 60, expressed his delight at the news, commenting: "I thought it was a wind-up at first.
"It's a fantastic gesture by the Club and I guess it's a fitting reward for all those miles I travelled as a home and away Season Ticket holder last season."
Ninety year-old Mr Butchart, from Bushey, added: "I couldn't quite believe it when I got the call from the Club!
"I thought I was hearing things, but to say I'm delighted is an understatement."
Mr Fleming, who will sit in Ellerslie Road next season, attends QPR home fixtures with his godchildren, Lauren and Emma Cass - and he's keen already looking forward to the new campaign, which starts on August 8th.
"I want to see us playing some really attractive, attacking football next year," he said.
"Two up front is the way I want to see us playing and I saw enough of Jim Magilton's old Ipswich side to know that he likes his teams to get the ball down and play good football."
Mr Butchart, who comes to W12 with his son Stuart, believes stability is the key next term.
"We need to be a stable side next year," he said.
"If we can get that right in all areas of the Football Club, I can see us really progressing next season."
