Former QPR forward, Frank Clarke turns 80Born July 15, 1942, Clarke joined QPR from Shrewsbury for 35,000 pounds, in February 1968 to boost our promotion hopes (after QPR failed to agree terms with another forward, John O'Rourke (who anyway joined QPR a few years later).- Clarke spent two years at QPR, before we sold him to First Division Ipswich for 38,000 pounds in March 1970 after our promotion hopes faded. In the 1969/1970 season, Clarke formed part of a dynamic forward line of Clarke, Barry Bridges and Rdney Marsh. - In the 1967/1968 season, Clarke scored 3 goals in 13 games. In QPR's (terrible) First Division season, he scored 5 goals in 23 games. And in the 1969/1970 season he got 9 goals in 31 games + some great cup goals, including two in QPR's "Shock win' In the League cup against Wolves at Loftus Road (in October 1969) (Clarke is the brother of Walsall/Fulham/Leicester, Leeds and England Forward Alan Clarke) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Clarke_(footballer) 1961–1968 Shrewsbury Town 188 (77) 1968–1970 Queens Park Rangers 67 (17) 1970–1973 Ipswich Town 66 (15) 1973–1978 Carlisle United 126 (30) From Bushman's Photos

Frank Clarke is a long way from being one of our best players but he is right up there in my list of favourite players.
He could not give you less than 100% effort every time he was on the pitch & he was a great foil for Rodney to perform his magic.

Guess he hit his peak the first half of our brilliant 1969/70 Season - which saw QPR reach QF of FA Cup and League Cup - going out to the Winners in each case

Guess he hit his peak the first half of our brilliant 1969/70 Season - which saw QPR reach QF of FA Cup and League Cup - going out to the Winners in each case Forward line of Marsh Bridges Clarke scoring 60 goals (League and Cup) We lost the Chelseas quarter final match on the previous Tuesday. Duncan Forbes (who else could it have been?) injuring Frank & making him miss the cup match. I'm a very big Mick Leach fan, but it wasn't his best position & we sadly missed Clarke's closing down of the centre halves. Inside two weeks we had sold Frank to Ipswich (no transfer windows in those days) & away to Oxfoed the ground (another defear at the Manor Ground)resounded to "Bring back our Frankie to us". Texas R was brave enough to turn round to the Loft Boys & ask why they had never appreciated him when he was out player!
