Ollie pleased with Belokon meeting
IAN Holloway has returned from Latvia feeling he has the trust of Valery Belokon – and speaking about how he wants to do a Burnley.
The Seasiders boss is taking inspiration from the achievements of the Clarets, who hit the jackpot by winning promotion to the Premier League.
It was one of the things Holloway mentioned to Belokon during their time together in Latvia at the start of the week, where Owen and Karl Oyston were also present.
"It was good meeting Mr Belokon. He is a bundle of enthusiasm and he is so straight down the line with you," said Holloway.
"I felt he knew every single thing about me before I'd even arrived. When I left he knew more about me than I did!
"It is very important that there is a lot of stability at this football club and it was great to meet the actual financial backers, who are Owen Oyston and Mr Belokon.
"They asked me some questions. I didn't think it was fair to answer them because I can't possibly tell them, for example, how much money I'll need.
"But the ambition that we've got between us I believe it's a common ambition and will really move the club forward.
"What I want to do is try to build from last year.
"We must get stronger in a very tough division, when other people might have a head start with what they've got to spend.
"But if I can convince my owners that I know what I'm talking about then who knows where we could end up.
"You've only got to look up the road to see what can happen to a very proud football club like ourselves in Burnley.
"We might all be a bit jealous of Burnley but hats off to them. They've done it the correct way and that's what I want to do."
Among the issues discussed were funds required to sign the likes of transfer targets like Rangers' Charlie Adam.
Holloway won't discuss figures but he does feel he'll receive the necessary backing.
"I'm not saying how much I want or don't want," he said.
"But the fact is that if I push them for a player who I believe will benefit Blackpool – off the field, in his mannerisms, in what he does, but particularly on the field – then I believe I will be able to get that player signed.
"I say that provided it is a realistic target, and a realistic target to me is a human being who wants the same thing as I do – who wants to get better, who wants to work hard, who knows he may get the odd thing wrong but will put a shift in.
"I believe they'll do that and it is my job to very carefully sift through all of that.
"It is the fans' job to worry. Why aren't we signing him or him? It is my job to get them right.
"So no one is going to shake me from my steadfast job of finding us better players than we've already got, which is not easy, because I like my players very much
