Mark Hudson, from Charlton for around 1 million. (I think he was a free when Dowie was trying to sign him) Wales on Line
Cardiff City close in on Mark HudsonJun 29 2009 Terry Phillips, WalesOnline Add a commentRecommend CARDIFF City are closing in on Charlton Athletic defender Mark Hudson. Sources at the London club insist Cardiff have agreed a fee of £700,000. Bluebirds' officials would not confirm interest in Hudson. The big central defender has been a target for Bluebirds' manager Dave Jones since the start of the year. Jones moved to sign Hudson as a replacement for Darren Purse, but the deal could not be completed during the transfer window. Now City are back in again, the fee has been agreed and could reach £1m with add-ons. City chairman Peter Ridsdale has confirmed they have reached agreement on a fee with another club and are in talks with a centre-half today, but will not reveal the identity of the man they want. Today, in Scottish newspapers, Cardiff are linked with a move for Slovakian international midfield player/defender Maros Klimpl. He was with Motherwell on loan last season. Klimp will join Cardiff City on trial tomorrow. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2009/06/29/mark-hudson-in-talks-with-cardiff-city-91466-24017322/

From Last Summer
UPDATE: NO. Hudson NOT to QPR! Hudson joins Charlton on a free - Announcement
Mark Hudson to QPR?: Strong press speculation (and messageboard rumours) that Crystal Palace defender and Captain, Mark Hudson could be joining QPR
South London Press-Richard Crawley - EXCLUSIVE: Hudson set to quit Eagles CRYSTAL Palace captain Mark Hudson is set to quit the Eagles - with new QPR boss Iain Dowie leading the chase for his signature. The former Fulham defender, 26, has rejected two contract offers from the South Londoners and will be free to join another team for nothing at the end of next month. And Warnock appears to have conceded defeat in trying to keep hold of Hudson, nicknamed Rock, and is already looking for a replacement. He told the South London Press: "I think Mark has already told people that he’ll not be signing a new contract and he’ll be leaving. "He’s got one or two offers and money talks - that’s his entitlement being on a Bosman. I imagine it could be Dowie who has offered him the money." South London Press
SPORTING LIFE Crystal Palace captain Mark Hudson looks set to snub the offer of a new contract at Selhurst Park and could be on his way across London to join QPR. The 26-year-old centre-half will be a free agent at the end of June and Palace boss Neil Warnock believes ex-Eagles chief Iain Dowie, now in charge at Loftus Road, is leading the chase for his signature. "I think Mark has already told people that he'll not be signing a new contract and he'll be leaving," Warnock told the South London Press. "He's got one or two offers and money talks - that's his entitlement being on a Bosman. I imagine it could be Dowie who has offered him the money." Sporting Life

Mark Hudson in talks with Cardiff City over £1m move Jun 30 2009 by Terry Phillips, South Wales Echo MARK Hudson is due in South Wales today for talks on a near £1m transfer to Cardiff City. Sources at Hudson’s club, Charlton Athletic, insist a fee has been agreed, but Bluebirds’ chairman Peter Ridsdale would not comment today. It seems, though, that a fee has been agreed between the clubs and Hudson will have a medical today. City have moved to bring in Slovakian international midfield player Maros Klimpl on trial, while they remain keen on Motherwell right-back Paul Quinn. City, though, already have four full-backs in Kevin McNaughton, teenager Adam Matthews, Mark Kennedy and Tony Capaldi. Jones would have to find a new club for Capaldi who was unable to break back into the starting line-up after injury last season, before he could bring in Quinn. The priority for manager Dave Jones, though, is a centre-half to partner Hungarian international Gabor Gyepes. Hudson would be ideal and a leading candidate to be Cardiff City club captain for the new season. He was Charlton skipper last season. Charlton are keen to keep Hudson, but the cash-strapped London club, relegated from the Championship last season, need to raise funds. The fee said to have been agreed is £700,000 plus add-ons. Hudson, 27, almost signed for the Bluebirds during the January transfer window. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2009/06/30/mark-hudson-in-talks-with-cardiff-city-over-1m-move-91466-24019004/

Decent player should do well for them.
Although I'm still at a loss what the hell went wrong at Charlton last year.

Quite, I was about to say, why would we be interested in a defender from a relegated team.

Well I think we would have got him on a free last season. He's now worth a million. Good comparison to some of the signings we made last year (not by Dowie)

We had one of the best (top four?) defences in the league. Thankfully or we would have gone with Charlton, not a centre half needed, that is blindingly obvious.
