BBC Swindon reveal new youth set-up Swindon are prepared to start paying fees to sign youth-team players from other clubs in an attempt to improve their own junior set-up.
Town have already agreed deals with two unnamed youngsters, believed to be from Plymouth, who will require compensation at a tribunal.
Former caretaker boss Dave Byrne is the club's new head of player development.
He told BBC Wiltshire: "We can now go and identify players we've never been able to before."
Byrne also revealed Swindon are looking to extend their scouting network into mainland Europe.
"We're going to try to build a foundation where we're looking for homegrown talent," he said.
"But if we can't get that home-grown talent then we need to broaden our horizons and see if we can get into the European market and bring in some good kids."
Swindon chairman Andrew Fitton thinks the club's future is very much tied to the success of developing their own players.
"We see a much closer association between the youth, the reserves and progression into the first team," he said.
"We've been generating about one player a year over recent years, so on my principle that you've got to improve in small steps, two would be a good start."

I wish QPR had done this when the owners had taken over. I understand we needed to buy experience to climb up the table but players like Agyemang, Hall and Mahon had already reached their peak as professionals. I think we should have signed the likes of Cranie, Mancienne, Watson and even Ebanks-Blake when we had the chance. All under 23, all only going to improve and at the time all available for less than £6m instead we have signed quantity rather than quality.

You also have to consider if these players WOULD sign for us?

The QPR of 21 months ago was a very different one than it is today. We were BIG news...Big optimism. And yes I think any and all of these players would have signed for QPR - Then.

We were chasing Watson but he seemed to want prem. Mancienne somehow some obstacle, money, not offered, he wasnt interested?
Eubanks never saw any indication we looked very hard at him, Cranie went back to Pompy after broke leg, never to be heard of again.
Was he even for sale? Your points are excellent, but our leadership was looking , like Napoleon, toward the Eastern front.

I think Watson was virtually assured IF he we hadn't tried to be clever.
We were linked to Eubanks Blake both when Holloway was at QPR and before he signed for Wolves.
Cranie and Mancienne: I presume yes we could....

Peterborough's policy was plucking the best players out of non league.
Has served them well.
I'm really surprised that our club have not made the youth set up more of a priority.

If after Briatore takeover, had planned on immediate promotion rather than "four year plan" the type of buys we made would have made sense. But the fact that we haven't "done a Spurs" (at a lesser level) and been buying lower league players/youngsters...or developing has been a disappointment.
And it's at this level that you really need a scout. Agents are not the answer at that level.
And Magilton talking about relying on QPR youth....Well best of luck: But based on the past decade, very few QPR players since Langley have actually made it - either at QPR or afterwards (except far down) - except of course for Parret - and maybe O'Brien will. So....

I went to the youth team final this year my first glance at the future.
Rose, and the keeper look good prospects.
Of course we all know about losing Dean Parrett who many said would of been an outstanding prospect.
The lad German (I think) looks decent but we do play at a very poor standard.
Lets hope the club in the future make the youth team a priority.
