WALTON EYES FRESH START AT ARGYLE
WELL-travelled Plymouth Argyle midfielder Simon Walton wants a fresh start at Home Park.
Walton, loaned out by the Pilgrims to Blackpool in March – just six months after his transfer from Queens Park Rangers – has insisted he will be an Argyle player 'until somebody tells me to stop'.
And he has rubbished any suggestions linking him with former Pilgrims boss Ian Holloway at Blackpool.
Walton, out of favour at Home Park, went out on loan to Bloomfield Road with a handful of Championship games remaining of the 2008-2009 season.
He saw action with Blackpool, although his loan agreement prohibited him playing against Plymouth Argyle in the Pilgrims' 1-0 win at Bloomfield Road shortly after his move to the northern seaside resort.
Walton, however, poured cold water on any suggestions that the move to Blackpool could be made permanent.
The midfielder, who has had spells at eight different clubs in five years, made it clear that he would be back at Home Park next month for the first day of pre-season training, fighting for his career at Argyle.
He said he had not talked to Holloway about his situation at Blackpool.
Walton, currently on holiday in Spain, told Herald Sport: "I did all right at Blackpool and I impressed in training.
"But I haven't had any contact with anyone, so I don't think anything's going to happen there.
"The caretaker manager (Tony Parkes) and his staff who dealt with me have now all gone, so I think that door's closed now."
Walton, who is contracted to Argyle until 2012, said: "The only thing to do is to get back down to Home Park on July 1 and work my tail off until somebody tells me different."
Argyle chiefs are waiting on a proposed takeover of the club by Tokyo-based Shonan Management Corporation. The directors do not expect anything to happen before a board meeting on June 15.
Walton said he was 'in the same boat as everybody else' over the proposed takeover.
But he said: "I am not in a rush to go anywhere.
"I've got three years left at Plymouth Argyle and obviously I have plenty of time to see what happens.
"I'm having a little break and getting away from football for a bit, but before the season starts, I've got to concentrate on keeping myself fit.
"Last year was a bit of a disaster for me, because I didn't help myself at times.
"But a lot of people have shown faith in me and I want next season to be a fresh start.
"Obviously, I wasn't consistent (on the pitch), but fingers crossed, that will go right next season.
"I think people forget that I'm still only 21 and I am learning every day. Next season it will make me a stronger player."
