QPR Official Site - QUINTET SET TO DEPARTThe Club can confirm that five out of contract players will be leaving QPR at the end of June. Zesh Rehman, Liam Miller, Jake Cole, Danny Maguire and Chris Arthur will all depart when their current contracts expire on Tuesday 30th June. Rehman joined Rangers from Fulham in the summer of 2006, penning a three year deal. The Pakistan international went on to make 49 appearances in all competitions, with loan spells at Brighton & Hove Albion and Bradford City sandwiched in between. Miller was a free transfer signing from Sunderland in January 2009. The Republic of Ireland international midfielder made 11 starts and two substitute appearances in the Championship. Goalkeeper Cole - who joined the R's as a youngster - made six starts during his spell at the Club, whilst enjoying successful loan spells at Oxford United and, more recently, Barnet. Both Maguire and Arthur were graduates of the Clubs youth department, with the midfield duo each enjoying productive spells at Under-18 and Reserve team level. The Club would like to place on the record its thanks to all five players for their contribution and wish them every success for the future. www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1654673,00.html

Clearly Maguire & Arthur are disappointing even if it just demonstrates just how bad our youth development is but I actually thought those two were thought of highly.

Neither have done much out on loan, Maguire was injured as well. More a case of lucky to get a contract in the first place. Still, good luck to both of them and I hope thay have the opportunity to make a living playing football somewhere.
Edit. Good luck to Cole as well, not really had a chance here, hope he gets the deal at Barnet.

It is always sad when players are no longer required by their clubs, but that is the nature and reallity of the sport, and if clubs are to progress change is inevitable.
Taking a more detailed look at the players out of contract it has to be said that the older three, Cole, Rehman and Miller all had their chance and were found wanting. Nobody was more scathing than me over the signing of Miller, and sure enough he more than lived up to my predictions of his contribution - second rate.
However the situation regarding the young pro's is very different. When they signed their contracts a year ago they were told that QPR would be taking part in an under 21's league comprised of all the leading clubs in the London area, and they would have the opportunity of playing against first class opposition every week. Just what young players needed to learn their trade. For whatever reason QPR never became involved in a league of this kind. More Bulls**t ?.
As a result the only stepping stone and outlet now became the reserve side. Unfortunately due to the clubs well documented unbalanced squad and the need to try and keep " first team squad " players fit the chances available to the young midfielders was almost zero, and on the few occasions they were chosen often played out of position. They have been, in my opinion, treated disgracefully by the club and never given any real kind of a chance to take their careers forward. Any young player looking to forward his career would do well to give QPR a wide berth. They are giving less and less priority to the youth set-up.
Looking at the two young midfielders released: Chris Arthur is not an outstanding player and his problems with his weight suggest his attitude to training is possibly not what it should be. Maguire is a different proposition. Two years ago Kaiserslauten wanted to sign him, but shortly after this time a stress fracture in his foot kept him from playing for 6 months. This was followed by a season of little activity because of the glut of QPR midfielders. Technically the most gifted player QPR have produced since Kevin Gallen, it has been a big mistake to let him go. I think I know a good player when I see one, and it would be no surprise to me if Maguire is playing in the premier league long before any of the players he has left behind at QPR.
By the way, it's rather strange reading opinion on young players when people have never seen them play.

Forgot to mention - these are the players who are coming to the end of their contracts. Plenty more to be shown the door soon. If only someone would offer anything for them.

Interesting/sobering to read the gossip about who wants who...Don't see any Premiership/Promoted to Premiership Clubs being linked to QPR Players (unlike Doncaster!)

Report - even worse than no QPR players being linked to Premiership/Promoted to Premiership Clubs is the fact that QPR are not being linked to any players who could play in the premiership themseves. All the possible incoming players I've seen mentioned are geriatric freebies.
Zed - I turned up on cue - what have you got to say.

Well if it's true that we're "downsize"/"adjusting" to this Division, then logically we'd surely be selling off some of our almost-Premiership players/sellable assets: Routledge, Leigertwood, Vine/Buzsaky (when proved their fitness) besides Blackstock/Camp

Who is going to buy them - football is a results business, the ones you mention have done nothing. Buzsaky because of injury, but the others are light years from the prem.

Depressing reading but very true Grumpy. Add us being linked with managerial dross to your last post and I think it sums up QPR at the moment.

Can you imagine what a Shrewd Manager, in charge of player signings could have built over the past 21 months - given the money we have spent on transfers, wages, and managerial pay-offs? Pretty sad.

Not a case downsizing/adjusting to this division. Purely and simply not spending any money. I'm sure the powers that be would be delighted to get promotion to the Prem. but when was the last time a donkey off Blackpool sands won the Derby.

Sobering to look back a year and see just how little has changed - still no new strikers, still in the 500k bracket for players. Not much use having owners richer than Abramovic if the interest and desire for the club isn't there. Although it is early days for Warnock but he doesn't hold the purse strings.
Regarding the young players named in this thread - Chris Arthur is without a club at this moment in time but still training and hopeful of finding a contract wherever. Maguire's run of bad luck with injuries continued after leaving QPR. In his first game for Crystal Palace he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury and only came back to playing in the very last game of the season for Palace reserves. He will have no problems finding a place in a League team now he is fit.

When I read your first post on this thread I forgot it was a year ago, it applies to today so well.
