Bristol Evening Post - Adebola scoops Bristol City award
Dele Adebola, who is likely to leave Ashton Gate, last night scooped the Bristol City player of the year award.
The veteran centre-forward was rewarded for his 10 goals in 42 appearances by winning the supporters' vote.
He was presented with his award at the club's annual ceremony in the Evening Post Dolman Exhibition Hall.
Adebola has been offered a one-year contract by manager Gary Johnson but turned it down, claiming he had been offered two years by another Championship club.
The former Coventry City and Birmingham City man turns 34 next month and has been linked with Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and QPR.
In all Adebola has scored 16 goals in 62 games for City since joining for £300,000 from the Sky Blues.
On receiving his award, Adebola said: "I'm amazed that I've been picked for this award.
"Ever since I've been at Bristol City I've been made to feel really welcome and this award shows how much people appreciate what I do, and I appreciate their support in return.
"I'm still talking to the manager and the chairman about staying on at Bristol City, but if it comes to an end I can safely say that this is a great club with a great set of lads and great support."
Adebola's Strike partner Nicky Maynard collected a double, with the young player of the year award and the top scorer's prize for his 11 goals.
The £2.25 million signing from Crewe Alexandra had a tough start to his Ashton Gate career but was well established in the team by the season's end.
He said: "It was a big-money move for me to come here, but I had nothing to do with that, it was just between the two clubs. I just hope that next season I can hit the 20 mark and Bristol City can once again push for promotion.
"That's what we are all aiming for and if we can bring a few more names in, I'm sure that's achievable. I want to thank everybody who voted for me and hope to repay them with goals next season."
For many, the highlight of the evening was a special award for outstanding service given to Scott Murray.
The Scottish winger is set to leave the club after more than a decade's service.
Since joining in December 1997, Murray has made more than 400 appearances for City in two spells either side of a brief stint at Reading. Murray received his award at the end of the night from club president Marina Dolman.
Supporter of the year went to Sean Takle, who was nominated for the award for his work in getting the fans in the Wedlock Stand 'bouncing'. Takle received his prize from Gary Johnson.
Meanwhile, City have announced their first home pre-season friendly, against new Premier League side Wolves, on Saturday, July 25.
