Metro - Cheltenham boss Allen 'dropped trousers' in pub
Thursday, May 7, 2009 Cheltenham Town manager Martin Allen has been banned from one of the town's pubs after allegedly dropping his trousers at an end-of-season staff party.
Bar staff say Allen, nicknamed 'Mad Dog' was asked to leave and never return to The Salisbury, in Cheltenham, after allegedly taking his shirt off and parading around the pub with his trousers round his ankles.
The incident is said to have taken place during a staff night out, two days before Cheltenham Town's relegation from League One was sealed by a 1-1 draw at home to Carlisle United.
Bar manager Kirsty Wiseman, 38, told the Gloucestershire Echo the former Queens Park Rangers and West Ham midfielder, 43, was barred for behaving in a 'rowdy manner'.
She said: 'He soon drew attention to himself by behaving in a rowdy manner, dancing up on the stage with his shirt off, surrounded by women.
'Then, when he was standing in front of the bar, he dropped his trousers, before parading up towards the dancefloor.'
After calming down, Allen, former manager at championship side Leicester City FC, is said to have returned to the dancefloor to resume his antics.
Mrs Wiseman added: 'He started to unzip his trousers, as if to taunt us, so I said "Enough is enough - you're out".'
Allen was appointed as Cheltenham manager on September 15 last year, on a three year contract. After this season's relegation, he will lead the squad in League Two in 2009/10.
The club said it would not comment further today, but a statement released to the Gloucestershire Echo said: 'Martin Allen would like to apologise for any offence caused by his actions at the end-of-season staff event.
'The incident, while regrettable, was a minor one. No one was hurt, no damage was caused and there was no drunken or abusive behaviour.
'It was simply a bit of high jinks at the end of an enjoyable evening
