Posted by raygr13 in the History section Guestbook I really like these old pictures and stories. I have been looking at them for some time but have yet to see anything related to a testimonial match I went to under lights in the 1950's I think it was. From memory it was a QPR Team vs an All Stars team which included Stanley Matthews. I was in the Loftus Road Stand with my Dad for the match. I think it was probably my first visit. My Dad who was born in Kensal Green in 1904 had been a QPR fan all his life. He used to cycle with my older brother from Rayners Lane to the ground. I still go with my brother as season ticket holders in the Ellerslie Rd Stand. If you can shed any light on the match I would be grateful. All the best and keep up the excellent work. Read more: qprreport.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=history&thread=21396&page=2#313696#ixzz2K1gV5hKgHi Ray and welcome to the board. 27 Oct 1958 Stan Matthews on the cover. The Testimonial match was in aid of Rangers stalwarts Arthur Longbottom and Keith Rutter. Stan Matthews was absent through injury. The game was marred by schoolboys throwing fire works into the All Star Eleven goalmouth.

How the hell do you do that? I do hear tell that Bushy has a six bedroom house but has to sleep in the kitchen because all the bedrooms are packed from floor to ceiling with QPR memorabilia. ;D (Sorry Bushy, couldn't resist mate).

The All Stars XI lokked a reasonable line up.
I have early memories of thinking that Mike Hellawell was a good player for some reason, even though I don't think that I would have seen him play in the flesh.

I didn't see him play for us, but I did see him play for Huddersfield in the 60s. He was also capped by England twice in 1962. Gramps and Kerrins would have seen him play for us in the mid 50s. Mike Hellawell at the age of eighteen playing for us on the right wing v Colchester Utd. 19 Dec 1956.

To the best of my recollection, whilst I remember him playing for us, I don't think I ever actually saw him in action as the period he played about 50 games for Rs I was serving in the RAF in Germany.
