The Roman "Plebs" were famously given "Bread and Circuses" to distract an quiet them...
When you get to QPR - which although of course it is "Life" to most of us - even though of course, it's "just a game" (even though it's not)
To distract us from things, we can get "Happy Talk" tweets from the Board and QPR Staff...and Happy Talk Posts from various QPR Players. And big, expensive, "big Name" signings to show us they're serious.
And we were told not to worry: They had a Plan (which included building a Stadium to make money for the club)
But when the "Going Gets Tough" and "The Tough Get Going" - Where are they all?
Does anyone doubt if we'd won yesterday, they'd be all over the internet? With pithy quotes, etc...
Whatever happens to QPR, the Fans will remain loyal - OK some will drop off, if we're down. Gates will decline. But for thousands of QPR Fans, their concern will remain QPR, wherever we are; however we do.
We will see re our owners (Not to mention players, coaching and Administrative staff). Where are the owners of QPR yesterday? After they left, they almost all just sank off the "I Love QPR" Map (Exception: Mr. BP)
Our problem is not that due to a bad appointment - which happens - but a virtual free hand re signings...and then a blind stubborness to "Stay The Course" with Hughes...The Seven Million paid out in Agents Fees was just horrific. The owners - notably Fernandes - chose to go (or allow the manager to go) for the big name/instant impact players; rather than up-and-comers... So we now have a whole bunch of players without resale value. (In fact may have to pay clubs to take them.)
We've been through the Ray Wilkins Spending; the Chris Wright Era...The Houston Signings...Adminisration...Bucket collections....Paladini and Briatore...Faurlingate...Again and again and again....And yet here we are again.
As Talleyrand said re the Bourbons "They learned nothing and forgot nothing" - or as Karl Marx Said: "History repeats itself. The first as tragedy, then as farce"
We were told that our wage bill this year is less than last year. I have no understanding how this could be...But I certainly hope we've been told the truth.
Already our expenditures vastly exceed our income....G-d help us if we're down, unless we cut our wages severely.
Someone is going to take a massive financial bath: If that owners, that's fine: They invested to make money. They should accept the financial loss. The concern of course is that the "No More Debt" (which of course includes the aquired ABC Loan) really just means QPR Fans - and the club inherit the debt - Including Loftus Road...
To take Sir Edward Grey's famed comment: "The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our time" and apply it to QPR....
