Mark Donnelly to join in New Year
The club has great plans for a new stadium and training ground, and I feel it is the right time for me in my career to pursue a new challenge.”" Mark Donnelly
QUEENS Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to announce the imminent appointment of COO Mark Donnelly. Donnelly, the former Chief Financial Officer at the Football Association, is due to take up his new position at Loftus Road in January 2013. Donnelly has played a key role at The F.A over the past 18 months, notably in terms of the overall financial stability in the FA Group, Wembley Stadium’s improved trading position and the opening of the new national football centre at St George’s Park. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Donnelly said: “It was a very difficult decision to leave the F.A as I have thoroughly enjoyed working there, particularly at such a significant time for the organisation. I have loved working at Wembley, alongside fantastic people doing great work and wish them all well for the future. “However, the opportunity to get involved in an equally exciting project at QPR was one I wanted to pursue. The club has great plans for a new stadium and training ground, and I feel it is the right time for me in my career to pursue a new challenge.” Donnelly joined The FA in 2011 from the Lawn Tennis Association, having previously worked with QPR CEO Philip Beard at The O2. A delighted Beard added: “Mark is a key addition to the senior management team here at QPR. “He joins us at a time when we are seeking to make huge strides off the pitch in terms of delivering a state-of-the-art training facility, as well as helping us develop plans for a new stadium. “His knowledge, experience and vision will be valuable for us and we are all looking forward to welcoming him on board in the New Year.” www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/251012-mark-donnelly-446450.aspx

Why dont the club hire somebody from the local council, surely the best bet for planning permission

Spend the time and money on good coaches, send these coaches to watch how it is done in countries like Holland where they teach kids the art of good technical football, good habits off the pitch and the right attitude on it. Fat lot of good a state of the art training facility is going to be if we fail on the afore.
I am fed up of hearing about 'developing plans for a new stadium'. Buy the land first then tell us about it and then appoint people to take the project forward.

Why dont the club hire somebody from the local council, surely the best bet for planning permission Actually that would be the worst bet, as councils are very self aware that awarding employees permissions can look biased. There is even a section on the application form that asks if you or anyone related to you works for the council and what position they hold if so, in order to make sure that has no bearing on the final decision. Because it's not about football. The club is merely a publicity vehicle for the parent company and a means for which to get permission to build the O2 arena of west london. That is why Beard, a man with no experience in football, is here and this new guy who is here to manage the football related assets as his experience shows and for his knowledge for an arena like the O2.

Bit of a worry. Oh well a relegation will see soon the end of this No it won't and given the fact that we will be tenants in a new stadium somewhere down the line, surely it's reassuring to know that Tune are head hunting the best in order to make it happen. This bloke even has previous experience within football as well as working with Beard at the O2 so it looks like a great appointment to me for the board. Tune have certainly invested heavily in the football side of things in order to preserve our Premiership status and even relegation will not put them back due to our geographical location's importance to their plans, so it's good to know that they are also serious about the training ground as well. With the amount of background staff Hughes has bought in and with an overstretched PR department now adding personnel as well this is just further investment off the pitch in another needed area where previously it was jobs for the boys but now it seems to be far more professional.

My point is purely all these endless appointments, massive salaries to run an infrastructure that doesn't exist in any way, shape or form. Have they got double decker offices at HQ? Where are all these people based? Does my nut in!!!! ;D

It would be a slight positive if his appointment goes ahead as it would imply that plans for the future still exist. Still doesn't help the bloody team out now though but....

Still don't think this is worth it. Think maybe they are realising that it isn't as easy as signing a bunch of ageing overpaid mercenaries. It's QPR, not The Expendables.
