An Ex-QPR Man Jimmy Andrews RIP By Michael Morris Updated Friday, 14th September 2012 www.cardiffcity-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/jimmy_andrews_rip_757590/index.shtml?Former Cardiff City manager Jimmy Andrews has died this week at the age of 85. Andrews led Cardiff to a promotion in 1976 after taking over from Frank O'Farrell in 1974. Andrew's team was the one I first remember supporting as a young lad. Adrian Alston, Tony Evans, John Buchannon, Doug Livermore, Willie Anderson, Phil Dwyer etc wearing that iconic kit (pictured). He also signed Robin Friday for Cardiff as well. That story is soon to become a movie based on Friday's life. There is a nice tribute thread on CCMB offering condolences to the Andrews familiy and recalling the players he worked with. Click the link: www.ccmb.co.uk/fudforum/index.php?t=msg&th=335683&start=0&rid=7Speaking of his passing O'Farrell said this week "I played with him at West Ham and then we went our separate ways. "Eventually, after I left Manchester United I went down to Cardiff City and he was my assistant for six months before taking charge when I went to manage Iran. "He was one of the group that also included Malcolm Allison, John Bond, Noel Cantwell and Dave Sexton who would spend hours thinking and talking about the game. He was a natural outside-left with a lovely left foot and I enjoyed playing alongside him. "I remember the final game we had together at Cardiff. We beat Crystal Palace, who were managed by Malcolm, and they went down to Division Three and we stayed up!" Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Andrews

Wales on Line Home CardiffOnline Cardiff news Former Cardiff City manager Jimmy Andrews dies at 85 By Terry Phillips, WalesOnline Sep 13 2012Comments (2) Recommend (3) inShare Share on emailShare on print Former Cardiff City manager Jimmy Andrews who has died JIMMY Andrews, the manager who brought cult hero Robin Friday to Cardiff City during the mid-1970s, has died after a long illness. He was 85. During his coaching career, Andrews worked alongside Alec Stock at Queens Park Rangers, Tommy Docherty at Chelsea and Billy Nicholson at Spurs before joining manager Frank O’Farrell at Ninian Park. Later, he had the chance to bring John Toshack back to the Bluebirds, but hesitated and the Wales international centre-forward launched his managerial career with Swansea City. Andrews, who lived in Cowbridge, succeeded O’Farrell as Cardiff manager in 1974. The former West Ham team-mates worked together at Cardiff until O’Farrell had accepted a job in Iran and asked Andrews to go with him. The Scot stayed with the Bluebirds and was appointed manager. City were relegated from the old Division Two in his first full season during 1974/75, but Andrews then led his team to promotion in the following campaign. He was in charge at Cardiff over four and a half years, steering the Bluebirds to 63 wins and 51 draws in 190 matches, before he was sacked with Richie Morgan taking over. It was Andrews who paid £28,000 for the hugely talented and unconventional Friday in 1976 and said: “I watched him play for Reading against Burnley. He was different. Long hair, hippy look. Kids loved him. They thought he was the best thing that had ever happened to Cardiff City. “But things went wrong for him. He became involved with things outside football which did not help his game. The next thing we heard was that Robin had died. That was a sad loss.” Andrews spoke at his home in Cowbridge about the time he was offered the chance to bring Toshack back from Liverpool to Cardiff. “John came to see me and we talked about him playing for Cardiff City again and moving into coaching,” said Andrews. “But he was ambitious and already talking to Swansea City as well.” Andrews, a former Dundee, West Ham United, Leyton Orient and Queens Park Rangers winger, continued living in South Wales after leaving Cardiff City. He later worked as a scout for Southampton, coached football in Cowbridge and enjoyed playing golf. www.walesonline.co.uk/cardiffonline/cardiff-news/2012/09/13/former-cardiff-city-manager-jimmy-andrews-dies-at-85-91466-31831438/#ixzz26R8C2T62

I spoke to Mark Lazarus earlier today and informed him that Jimmy Andrews had passed away. Mark played with Jimmy at the Orient as well as at Loftus Rd. Mark was shocked to hear the sad news. Mark said he was "Very, very sad to hear Jimmy had passed away." He added: "Football was Jimmy's life. He was just a lovely guy".

Thanks.
While maybe understandable, it is still kind of sad how some Former QPR Players and Staffers' Deaths are so focused on; and some virtually ignored.

Another one of our old stalwarts gone.
"Noddy" was a unique inside forward/winger who later became a respected coach and Manager.

What I find sad is how few people really care. Some may pay lip service or make a pro-forma statement, but the idea that these people were an integral part of the club. As much - if not a lot more than - the current QPR Players - or even many of the "Heroes"of 1966-67 and 1975-76
