Gillingham ordered to leave training ground by Council
Gillingham have been ordered to leave their training ground after failing to pay bills.
Medway Council claim the League Two side owe more than £34,000 in unpaid utility bills and charges for using Beechings Cross.
The council say the Kent club's use of the facility is 'without permission' and consider them to be trespassers.
They will begin legal proceedings if the Gills do not hand back the keys to the ground by Friday.
Alan Jarratt, the deputy leader of Medway Council, said: "The money owed is not a small figure, and it is public money provided by the taxpayer. It would not be right, or fair to taxpayers or those that pay their rent, to ignore this.
"It is a shame that it has come to this. The Gills is an important part of the community and we are keen to support our local team.
"We have tried as hard as we can to negotiate with the club and find a way through, but they have failed to talk to us.
"Now, as all our efforts have been ignored, we have to evict them from the ground."
No-one from the club was avalable to comment.

Scally Angered By Council Eviction… Posted on July 4, 2012 by Jack Gracie http://theshoutingmen.wordpress.com/2012....ncil-eviction/? Gills Chairman Paul Scally, has said he is “livid” with the news that The Gills must vacate their training ground at Beechings Cross.
Medway Council told the club that they have until Friday to leave after unpaid bills, dating back to 2008 add up to £34,000 owed. After numerous letters the club has still not paid and the council say that they have been left with no other choice.
However, Scally is adamant that no contact has ever been made and that he was completely unaware that there was even an issue.
Speaking to KentOnlineThe Gills owner said;
“I know nothing about it, I’m livid. I’m waiting for the chief executive to call me back. I don’t know about a dispute.
They haven’t talked to us about it, I didn’t know there was an issue. What are Medway Council playing at?”

"..I also find it insulting that qpr-reports site are asking so many questions. They seem to want to know everything that goes on at the club..." |
