D-Day for Barton: QPR close to a decision on disgraced midfielder

Hughes wants nothing to do with skipper who was banned for 12 games after being sent off in season-finale against Man City

Captain insensible: Will Barton ever play for QPR again after this?
Getty
Joey Barton will find out in the next few days whether he has a future at Queens Park Rangers.

The club’s internal investigation into his red card and behaviour at Manchester City on the final day of the season, which has earned him a 12-game FA ban, is expected to be concluded shortly.

Flashpoint: Barton was sent off for fouling City's Carlos Tevez

And then... Barton made it worse by kneeing City striker Sergio Aguero

And then... Barton's blow-up angered Tevez and Aguero's team-mates
Alex Livesey
And then... Barton added some verbals as he finally started to leave the pitch
AP
And then... Members of QPR's coaching staff escorted Barton to the tunnel
Getty
And then... But they couldn't stop him squaring up to City's Mario Balotelli
PA

Manager Mark Hughes wants rid of the midfielder ahead of the new season, and has already decided not to name him in his 23-man Premier League squad even if he stays.

Barton will face a heavy fine and be stripped of the club captaincy after his red card shame and outbursts on Twitter.

Hammer blow: West Ham fail with final Green offer

Robert Green snubbed a last-ditch attempt to keep him at West Ham before agreeing to join QPR.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce tried to persuade the 32-year-old to extend his six-year stay in east London after he helped the club win promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

Falling on deaf ears: Green couldn't be talked out of signing for QPR
Jamie McDonald

But Green moved to Loftus Road as a free agent, signing a deal worth around £50k a week, and will start next season as QPR's first choice.

By the sounds of it even if we can't sack him for gross misconduct he will be out the door in January anyway.

Barton's future to be decided soon as QPR's internal investigation into Etihad scuffle draws to an end

Joey Barton's future at Queens Park Rangers will become clearer in the next few days as the club conclude their internal investigation into his Etihad Stadium rage.
The midfielder was infamously sent off for elbowing Carlos Tevez, aiming a kick at Sergio Aguero and headbutting Vincent Kompany in the final day defeat against Manchester City.

Enraged: Joey Barton (centre right) was sent off against Manchester City for clashing with Carlos Tevez
Barton has already been hit with a 12 game FA ban for the tantrum and he now seems certain to be punished by the club.
The outcome of QPR's in-house investigation is expected to be reached by Monday - and it is understood the probe could even be resolved today.
Mark Hughes wants Barton out of the club ahead of the new season and has already decided not to name him in his 23-man Premier League squad if he remains at Loftus Road.

Title winners: City beat 10-man QPR to win the Premier League at the Etihad

Club officials have looked into the possibility of sacking Barton for gross misconduct - but it is understood QPR have been advised doing so could leave them in a difficult legal position.
It is more likely that Barton will face a heavy fine and be stripped of the club captaincy

As I asked in the other thread, how come two different writers with two different papers both get it (I presume) wrong re the 23 Man Premier squad?

If Barton is suspended in the prem, can he play abroad? IE can we loan him to a team in Holand, Belgium etc to help cover some of the wages?

JOEY BARTON looks set to be thrown an amazing lifeline right out of the Last Chance Saloon.

The man Fabio Capello said was “too dangerous” to play for England is expected to be given one final opportunity to mend his wayward ways with QPR.

The Londoners considered showing him the door after a lengthy inquiry into his shocking behaviour against Manchester City in last season’s final game.

But the legal cost of doing so – and his undoubted talents – mean that the volatile midfielder, who is banned from playing for a considerable chunk of the next domestic season anyway, looks likely to escape becoming an international outcast as well… for the time being.

QPR are expected to pull back from the brink and give Barton his final public warning within the next 48 hours along with a move to curtail his Twitter outbursts which have also frequently landed him in hot water.

The man Fabio Capello said was “too dangerous” to play for England is expected to be given one final opportunity to mend his wayward ways with QPR.

Far-reaching legal strings are also likely to be attached to protect QPR from him repeating the sort of behaviour that got Barton a 12-match ban for violent conduct during Rangers’ 3-2 defeat by City.

That was the latest blackspot in a controversy-littered career that started to go off the rails eight years ago when he was sent off for the first time, ironically at City.

It was the beginning of a downward spiral that many feared would see him ending up as a global pariah this time.

But thanks to manager Mark Hughes and the club’s legal advisers the doors of that Last Chance Saloon look like staying open for a little longer for a maverick whose CV – crime vitae, that is – reads as follows:

Fined six weeks’ wages by Manchester City after stubbing a lit cigar in the eye of a young team-mate at the club’s Christmas party.

Fined eight weeks’ wages and sent home after an altercation with a 15-year-old Everton fan in Bangkok during a pre-season tour.

Suspended after a training-ground scrap with Ousmane Dabo which got him a four-month suspended jail sentence for assault. He was also banned for 12 games by the FA and fined £25,000.

Moved to Newcastle for £6million but within months was charged with common assault after a late-night incident in Liverpool and missed the club’s New Year fixtures.

Jailed for six months after admitting the charges.

Banned again by the FA after punching Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Transfer-listed after a series of Twitter comments criticising the club.

Branded the FA “Orwellian” and in need of a “drastic shake-up”.

Now Barton is understood to have made certain promises about his future behaviour. Whether he can keep them remains to be seen… some time around early November when his present ban expires.

Hughes has promised several new faces at Loftus Road this summer and has already brought in Andy Johnson, Ryan Nelsen and Rob Green. Now he has Leicester defender Paul Konchesky in his sights for a £1m deal.

Barking-born Konchesky, who was sold by ex-Fulham boss Hughes to Liverpool in 2010, wants a return to the capital and is keen on a switch to west London. The two-times capped England left-back could also be joined at Loftus Road by Manchester United’s Fabio, who is set to move on a season-long loan.

What "undoubted talents"? The inability to pass, cross, score, keep a temper, keep self discipline, lead by example, clean tackle. Which one of these talents does he have in abundance??

Don't you think it's about time we got of Barton's back and gave him another chance. He messed up, but we survived. He can still do a job for us and when he is on form he is an asset. 3 goals and 3 assists I read somewhere. That's not bad. Don't think he's gonna be sacked. Don't want the club giving him millions in wages to let him go. Let him earn his way back into the squad or stay in the reserves. Getting on his back won't help. Getting off it might.

If it will cost us 11 million to get rid of him, maybe. If could get rid of him without costing us, I'd do it.

I just don't think Barton can change. He's not a teenager making one mistake.

(Of course some might say Gianni messed up, but should be given a second - or third - or fourth or...chance!)

That it was so easy. Joey wouldn't go with that and in the Reserves, tweeting undermining tweets would make a bad situation worse. Not sure what the solution is, but it needs to be one he would go for.

Well if he didn't want to go sit with the reserves then we would have good reason to sack him. He's not exactly in a position to go against what the club ask him to do.

They didn't find it that hard, several clubs made offers but we offered the most. We can give him away for free as well, I guarantee either Norwich or West Ham would take him.

Agree with Cat.Last chance saloon. But get some clauses down in writing.Obviously he's not going to re negotiate wages but if he's serious about changing he might put pen to paper about future behaviour
Ban on twittering might be a starting point..
edit .
Just to add.I'll go with whatever Mark Hughes wants And so should the Board. If he wants rid get rid even if it hits us in the pocket..

Surely if the club lawyers had found a way to sack him he'd be gone already ?

So paying him off, whether it's £10mill, £12mill, or £15 million that's a right old chunk of TF's money that could surely be spent so much better on the Academy or new players or 101 other worthier causes ?

When the Afican Nations Cup comes round again and we lose Taraabt/Traore/Dikite in January, Bartons defensive workrate in midfield will be needed (not his passing)
Install a twitter ban if that's possible, give the captaincy to Hill and set new behaviour clauses in his contract. Barton will re-offend at some point and we can get shot legaly, but until then the club might benefit from him striving to behave (remember how well he played under his selfimposed twat ban)

The "saving grace" if he stays is that Barton will WANT to play. He won't be content unlike certain others to just draw a salary. I have no doubt in training and in practices - and even in reserve games - he'll be doing all he can to show why he should be in the team. (But not as captain!)

And also to note that what he's being condemned for (in recent years) is his on the field behaviour (forget the tweeting rubbish). And that's very different different to Marlon King etc.

Of course there was that Night club incident a couple of weeks ago. But will have to see re that.
