 Barton decision today?
« Thread Started on Jun 15, 2012, 6:14am »

It is all officially very quiet on this front however can someone confirm to me that the club will announce their decision on Joey Barton today? They said 14 days and that was two weeks ago? Would be happy to hear from anyone that is more informed.

They said at least two weeks, not exactly two weeks. Don't think we'll know for a while.

I think they said "at least two weeks" - and it's actually been three weeks...

Think him getting nicked changed that, they'll be waiting to see if it helps us.

As Mac said, it has been three weeks now since they announced the Barton inquiry. No suggestion that we would hear anything today, especially with everyone still on holidays, not least of all their press guy.

Harlow (or whatever he is calling himself these days) and I had a chat about this and reckon that they might not announce anything, or do it with as least publicity as possible. I thought they might use the Euros as cover, but so far nothing.

What are the options on him anyway - sack him or reluctantly back up..?

That he did what he did was never in question.
The only question was the punishment: Fine. Remove him from Captaincy...Put him on transfer list...Dump him/pay him off.
I imagine they're in negotiation with Barton and his agent to see if he'll leave/what kind of payoff

they will surely wait until the police charge him which they obviously will with a witness to say he started the fight outside the club.

once he has been charged and he will due to his previous and the witness the club will then have grounds to fire him and to be honest he wont have a leg to stand on as it were.lol

the club wont have to pay him a penny.

but it will take months, i am guessing very near to when his suspension is up.

Personally, I think the club will reluctantly back him. Fine him heavily, strip him of his captaincy and put him on the benches when he comes back until we need him through injury, etc.

The club will only be able to get rid of him for gross misconduct if he is found guilty of those charges in a court of law.

The can't act on the simple principle of being charged as he is innocent until proven guilty from a legal perspective. Not just because he's had a shite season. ::)

who said anything about his shite season.

he will be charged because of his previous form ie: police form (prison , other charges in the past which there are.

and the witness that stepped forward gross misconduct it will surely be for sure.

Difficult to say. QPR could certainly use that as an excuse if they wanted to get rid of him, but Newcastle stood by him when he went to prison (although they allegedly tried to shaft him when he got out).

If Barton had played well last season, I'm sure the majority would be defending him in this instance, probably saying that it's his high profile that got him in trouble and that he was obviously attacked first or justifiably provoked.

You yourself have opined that he might have a mental problem from your experience from working in that field, but I fear that it's his actual worth as a player in your eyes that is condemning in this instance rather than your usual compassion for people with his problem.

Who said anything about him not being charged? :P

Again, you can't fire someone for gross misconduct simply on the basis of being charged. He has to be found guilty in a court of law first before the gross misconduct can be proved by the club.

His previous can have no legal bearing on whether or not he is charged over this as those charges relate to this instance only.

I have a very strong feeling that this witness might be known to the 'victim' and is simply corroborating his friends statement after the fact as he certainly didn't mention anything to the police at the time as Barton was allowed to walk off by the police and was only arrested once the 'victim' gave his version of events some time later.

Whether or not he is found guilty of this and regardless of his poor form for us so far, he certainly is a godsend for the message boards and gives us a great topic for debate in the close season where rumours about transfers are usually the main topic! ;)

i am looking at barton in a footballing light as despite my career where my football club is concerned as with you and most on here just want the best for them/us etc.

plus we all have enough of our jobs that at weekends etc when we are off we just want to leave it behind and enjoy what we got .

i dont particularly want to be reminded by watching someone out of control in a blue and white hooped shirt behaving in the same way that the people i work with do.

it is of course my preference and a bit closer to home for me this issue and i make recommendations on a weekly basis on such people as already stated in another thread and in any other career such a person would be releived of their duties until deemed fit enough to return to work however long it takes, within reason of course.
you are correct it needs to go to court and i mentioned that before which is why i said it could take months possibly just before his suspension is up .
but it could be longer some cases i have attended for common assault took 8-14 months to get to court so who knows how long it could take it all depends on how many cases there are in front.

lol they are so busy sending mums who do not make sure their kids attend achool , people doing 3 miles am hour over the speed limit that the real cases with real criminals get put on the backburner.

my only concern as mentioned again in another again barton thread was he should be nowhere near a football field with his issues.
he clearly has them and anyone says he does not is not from this planet.

you can call him what you like and i have no personal vendetta against the man in fact i have stuck up for him on numerous occasions but the fact remains he is a volcano waiting to erupt and when it does someone is going to get very badly hurt and i would not wish it on anyone opposition / one of our own on training pitch ( already mentioned he went in hard on taraabt on a couple of occasions ) or someone in the community.

as a club for some unknown reason we do not seem to be popular for what reasons i am baffled but that is that and we have just had a season where we had record sendings off do we need anymore bad publicity, the guy craves attention also and does not hide the fact by making comments about fellow footballers/politicians/tv personalities etc and maybe on some issues he is correct but because of how he is he does not know how let alone when to shut up and .

Ok, so by taking your above two posts into account, rather than simply sack him and cast him aside into the type of care for his problems, whose deficiencies in delivering the help are mentioned by yourself, would it not be in the best interests of the club to not look to sack him but instead to lead the way in providing whatever help he needs and help him.

Now would be the best time to start down that road due to his suspension and hopefully by the time he comes back he will be helping himself as well.

For if his state of mind is stopping him from playing at his best, his recent comment about not being picked for England because of his behaviour shows that he is aware of it, he just needs to be shown how to control it.

We should be ones to to do that, he owes us decent football for his wages and we should do what we can within our means to help him and not just sack him.

As a player he's worth it, as a person, he needs to sort that out.

You cant argue the fact that by some strange reason he payed well for a month when not tweeting? coincidence ? maybe?
But it was like a childs act of defiance to start tweeting 3 days before our biggest game of the season, very strange.

Whilst i can forgive Cisse twice for his red cards and forgive Barton re The Johnson sending off (although he should have known better)and even to the point i could nearly forgive him for the Tevez incident , unfortunately what followed , the kicking out , headbutting will mean i will only be happy when hes gone from our Club , be it August this year or next!

mark i have had arguments on here in the past about his illnesses and in the end i gave up yes one of my arguments were that he should be helped by the club i had this argument before the man.city game hence when i said i have stuck up for him .

the club should help him if it feels it can , if not then it needs to do whatever it will but if he is not helped and continues to play someone will eventually get seriously hurt.

the club knew what they were getting when they took him on , they may not have known to the extent that it is but took him on none the less ,
now no one can tell me with his past history that he does not have problems they must have known therefore they should admit some liability for employing such a person.

it is no different in my opinion as taking on a partner who has anger issues that i knew about previously before deciding to have her as my partner and then kicking off on a regular basis it would be my fault as i knew from the start what she was like.lol

i hope we dont argue over this as i do think he is a good guy but misunderstood and he can be a good player but his issues need to be resolved before being allowed on the pitch.

i also think it would look very good on our club to be helping joey and also at the same time showing that it maybe was not all his fault but something that could have made a difference if the problem had been resolved at an earlier point in time.

if that makes sense.lol

we always were seen as a caring club but just recently have been looked at with what appears as contempt by many for which i said before baffles me as to why.

we should show our caring side again.

Watched the first Man C home match and he did have this "going off unecesarily" you could see it had to
have an outlet for which he got his fourth yellow.

Mark is right. It is a mental problem. To be an illness it has to be treatable if he himself would admit to it.
Could he be a footballer without this compulsion. Probably a better one. Characterological issues are
there for a reason. A basic need to hurt someone physically for Joey. Psychic survival.
Is alcohol part of this? One doesnt know.

A thorough Psychiatric and Psychological evaluation would be mandatory for any team he plays for.
If his career depended on this, he should go along with it.
