I think Mr Barton should be the team captain and lead England in their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Anything for a quiet winter in 2014

I have asked the question before and got no response. Can anybody tell me what the situation is with the club's investigation? Surely there should have been a result by now or is it being quietly swept under the carpet and forgotten? I for one would be disgusted if it is.

i think they are waiting for the police investigation to complete which lets face it they are never quick at solving anything.
if he started the brawl outside the club then he can be sacked end of and everyone is hoping that is the case.
someone definately saw him start it so a court case to await it will probably take months for that .
i would hazard a guess we got him until somewhere near the end of his suspension and then he will be in alan sugars words (fired)lol

Actually I was talking about the QPR investigation into his antics in the Manchester City game. Three weeks ago it was expected to last two weeks.

Don't think we will be able to sack him without paying him loads of money. I reckon we will sit him with the reserves until January then give him away for free.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the 25 man squad.
His ban runs out in November so by excluding him we will be in the position where he could play but as he's not in the squad we'll be paying our most expensive employee to do nothing, which will not make sense to the board, who obviously see him in a much different light than most QPR fans.
Don't forget Beard has stated many a time that he stands by all the contracts he agreed since he came here and as such I expect them to want Joey back in the team the moment his ban is up.
Since he returned from being dropped (I wonder if the know nothings who called that a foolish decision have any contrition about themselves now) he's improved up to the point were he's put in some solid (though pretty uninspiring performances) and as such could get his place back in the side and alongside Diakite and Faurlin, having him on the pitch makes it more feasible to give Taarabt a free role to link up with the strikers.
This is all subject to change though once the transfer window opens as our targets will give us a better idea of what Hughes has in plan for next season and if he's looking to replace the big mouth idiot.

If Barton hadn't lost it against City, I wonder if everyone would be saying the same things? Besides which, Barton said he gets in on ability but not in behavoir - and I actually agree.
Henderson is truely woeful, and very very overrated. Barton is a much better PLAYER (not person, forget his tweeting for a second). Unfortunately, most R's fans are so blinded by their dislike for the guy that they never consider his ability. He was great on the pitch at Newcastle, and after Warnock went, started to play well under Hughes too. Nearly all season he's been punched and kicked about, but once again no-one takes any of that into account and bases everything on this one event at City and his chequered past.
Besides which - what actually really happened in 2004 with this 'stubbing a fag out in someone's eye' business? Whoever it was certainly wasn't blinded, so how exactly could the deed be as gruesome as it's painted? If he stubbed a lit fag out in someones eye - their eye would rather convincingly fail to work!! So how serious was it in all honesty? I only bring this up because it's the one thing EVERYONE bangs on about when you mention JB.
Returning to what Barton said about England, he's absolutely right! I mean look at Milner?? How did he miss that?! He's just a functional player with nothing special about him except hard work, but because he's on a fat contract at Man City, he's an automatic choice for England. I'd rather have Barton (once again, on ability alone...and - once again - on his OVERALL ability, not just the 1st 1/2 of the season where he was poor with us under NW).
Also, if you're going to judge a player on one performance/incident, then he's got more awareness than Scott Parker who was caught in possession too often for my liking. The other fringe players JB mentioned in the England 23 - he is better than some of them, no question. So, for all the dislike/hatred etc etc everyone seems to harbour for this guy - I believe that if you can put all that to one side and actually focus entirely on his ability in the long run, and not his mouth, you can see that he's got a point!!

I judge Barton on the season as a whole. He came in on massive wages and was made captain straight away.
He was really poor all season apart from the last 5 or 6 games. Had the worst passing accuracy of any midfielder in the Prem.
A lot of people wanted him out in the summer before the City match.

I see your point in so much as if Fred West hadn't killed all those young girls I wouldn't label him a sadistic murderer either. Fact is he did so I do, just as Joey did lose it against City and therefore people are perfectly within their rights to use those actual actions in judgement against him.

His Twitter page is entirely irrelevant to me.
I have never read a tweet of his that wasn't copied onto this site or even seen his Twitter page, so it's hardly a consideration for me.
In fact I suspect that if he had performed to his own supposed ability on the pitch for us, many of the same people who are using his Tweets in an argument against him as a footballer would laugh at what he Tweets and say it's all part and parcel of the wonder that is Joey Barton and that we should ignore it as he delivers results on the pitch.

At a Man. City event/party one of the youth team players got drunk and tried to literally set Joey's shirt on fire whilst they were at the bar. Joey retaliated by stubbing his cigar out in the youth player's eye. As for going blind, unlike yourself, the youth player had the foresight to close his eye and therefore end up with a severe burn on his outer eye lid. Joey was certainly provoked in this instance, but still overreacted in a vicious manner on a much younger person. Sort of like when he battered a young guy on the ground for which he went down for and as bad as when he admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm on former teammate Ousmane Dabo during training.
I hardly think Joey is misunderstood or even slightly the victim in all this.
Factor in he has been charged by the FA for violent conduct three times now and any attempt to try to muddy the waters around his abhorrent behaviour not only condones it but gives him free passage to continue.
As for being good enough to play for England, based on last season's performances, I disagree and would prefer the younger players to be bedded in right now rather than take an obvious liability of a player (his last match being an example of this) to a tournament within a limited squad who has not had a good enough season to justify his place in it.

Wont miss 12 league games, there will be at least two cup games so total would be at most 10 league games, if the club does not sack him then i would think he would be included in the 25.
Depends how we do in the cups could be even less than ten.

the fact he writes for the big issue and sticks up for the mentally chellenged
(he donates money to these issues by the way) tells me it is something close
to home as i have said before i am 100 per cent certain he has mental health
issues and until this is dealt with which i am certain he has help with but there
are so many differing types of this problem it may never be resolved.
my point is he is always going to explode eventually and although not his
fault it really is not it is still a problem for the club and anyone associated
with it.
i really cannot condone his behaviour but at the same time he needs to be
out of football until his issues can be controlled if ever because he is a
walking time bomb , the eye incident , aggro on the pitch etc is just a glitch
on what could and probably will happen eventually.
i mentioned these issues before in another thread and some were not of the
opinion he has issues but i also said i have a partner with the same issues
and i have to work with such people and i see it everyday therefore i have
to assess people to decide are they or are they not and my assessment of jb
would be yes he definately is.

I see what you're aiming for with such a slamming analogy, however I do think this is somewhat distasteful and completely different. Fred West wasn't punched, kicked or set alight before he thought it was a good idea to become an horrific murderer, so to liken him to Barton is ridiculous.
I'm sure there are numerous psychological reasons people want to analyse/investigate regarding the former, but JB at the end of the day has always reacted to provocation. More than is acceptable for most people yes, but you can't tell me none of us have ever lost our tempers before and wanted to lash out? That's all it is with him, except when it does happen not only does everyone know about it but it's also excessive.

Irrelevant to you, yes, but a great many fans appear to hold that against him more than anything else! I for one am in your boat, insofar as I couldn't care too hoots either to be honest!

Points well made there I admit. But I never said he was a golden boy who was misunderstood - I was trying to remove his footballing ability from his personality/past and talk about that, not absolve him of his crimes. They are, after all, undeniable. I don't think he's a very nice person - I think he's tried to rectify some of what he was this season, but then all that went to pot at City unfortunately, and for most people it's "same old Barton" all over again.
Despite all that, I'm not convinced he's as disruptive in the dressing room as the media like to make out - but if I were on a night out with him, I'd definitely be a bit scared that he might erupt...so personality/issues wise, I'd rather not be within shouting distance of him!

Yes, younger talent does indeed get my vote - but Henderson isn't young talent, he's just rubbish! The Ox is brilliant, and I wouldn't leave him out for all the tea in China. If Wilshire, Walker and Cleverley were fit, our side would look like something else and I might even believe we could win something. I'm just saying that Barton is better, in my opinion then (since everyone here appears unwilling to judge him beyond his disgruntled service for QPR under Neil Warnock), than a number of players currently in the England squad.
BUT - once again - as Joey himself admitted, his behavior does not merit a place in the squad. I agree - QPR can't really afford to have a volatile time bomb on the pitch, let along England! His ability alone however is good enough (when you look past QPR and see how he played for Newcastle).
Finally, whilst we all talk about JB like he's the next Hitler or something, let's not lose track of the fact that there are a lot of nasty little players out there who have committed a lot more wrongs this season than Joey - Balotelli tops that list for me, Tevez is a complete w*nker, John Terry is basically a thug from a criminal family who got lucky by being good at football...Marlon King used to go around slapping women about, as did Gazza for that matter..the list goes on, and I think it's important to gain a little perspective from that. There are actually worse people than Barton playing football out there - and their fans actually cheer them on!!

alqpr, Henderson was actually really good when he played for Sunderland. Just like Downing (who was good at Villa) he has had a poor season under a poor manager. He is a better player than Barton.

Yup, from the outset I have compared his treatment by fans on the boards as a witchhunt which has been almost hysterical at times since the Man. City games.
His treatment is markedly different from when Impey punched a player and got a standing ovation for it and from when people where defensive of Cisse for his first red card, when he fully deserved it for overreacting.
I constantly sat in the stands last season saying, if only he'd get his head down and concentrate on his football then he'd be back to his Newcastle form where he just laid on so many goals for Carroll with some stunning passes it was great to watch.
That Joey could make into the England squad, though not the one from last season.
He has hit one or two decent long passes since he's arrived, but on form does 4/5 a game. His short passing at times has been painful to watch, whereas on form he's tight, cautious and rarely gives the ball away. His tackling has dipped a bit to but seems more of a concentration issue and seemingly lack of fitness.
All this to me points to the birth of his new kid and moving from oop north to London and a new club at the same time. All the twitter bollocks is part and parcel with him and doesn't effect his form really in my eyes, but those major life changes, adjusting to life with a new kid in a new place is stressful enough on it's own and then having to play with Taarabt, well maybe he just needs that first year to settle, get used to things and now he can focus solely on being Joey Barton the knobhead who also happens to be a great footballer instead of just being the former at the moment.

Disagree Rory .If you take Henderson for Sunderland I'm taking Joey for Newcastle.Based soley on footballing ability I'd take JB for England AND QPR over Henderson.

There are actually worse people than Barton playing football out there - and their fans actually cheer them on!! |

Yeah, not much I can add to that Mark, I agree with all your points - especially about moving. Sometimes it's easy to forget that even with all the money in the world, uprooting and relocating is still a pain in the backside and takes a while to adjust.
I do wish he would stop his incessant tweeting however, because it seemed to me as no coincidence that his best football (for us at least) was when he was on his twitter 'sebatical'. I'm sure in the olden days, if such things were around, managers would be able to stop players using it. It's unfortunate that it's not an option these days (for egotistical Premier League players at any rate!).

A good piece Alqpr. A difficult subject and some good footballing points made (bit nervous about the 'eye' incident but thats been taken up by others). |

Thanks alfa..it's tricky to get what's on your mind across at times, but I think we're looking at all angles fairly well now.
The eye thing was cleared up (no pun intended) as you say, and I've got to admit - it's a nasty photo! However trying to set someone's shirt on fire isn't THE most intelligent thing to do in fairness!! Still, a gentle slap would have been somewhat more preferrable to a cigar in the face...

Absolutely...although it's difficult not to get things confused as to whether a player is good now, was good at some point, is declining as a player, had a purple patch which was a one off (Patrick Agyemang?!) and apply it all to what we think of that players ability overall...er..if that makes any sense at all?!
Barton has a proven record of excellence in his career overall, whereas I don't know enough about Henderson at Sunderland to properly comment. All I know is, as a young player, he should be improving, but I don't see anything I like about him.
Barton this season, in amongst the bad, I've seen plenty that I DO like...for example his work rate etc has been high throughout - and in the latter stages, we did see a glimpse of what he's really capable of. I've never seen that from Henderson in the games I've watched him play in unfortunately.

Great post alqpr. I too, think Barton is a seriously good player. Because he has to do a lot of the dirty work for the team, including a lot of closing down, fetching and carrying, he doesn't get the credit he deserves. He played well in the majority of games I saw him play in at Loftus Road last season. As you point out, he is at least as good as some of the players picked for England this Summer.

If that's true, we're in a worse state than I thought. Even when he was playing well, I thought he was ordinary. If only he was as good as he thinks he is! Liability
