The latest edition of the event which has been running for the past five years by Sports Marketing and Events management firm GoldStar Consult is dubbed �Stars Soccer Fiesta� due to the infusion of fresh stars will be held on June 24 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.This year�s event with celebrities such as George �Oppong� Weah, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kwami Sefa-Kayi , Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Chris Attoh, Jocelyn Dumas and a host of musicians will test their footballing skills against the more established Black Stars players will be used to promote peace ahead of the the general electyions in Ghana on December 7. �This event started as a silly idea in the corridors of Samini�s (Ghanaian musician) house and now it has eveolved to become one of the main features in the off-season football calendar,� head of the event organizers, Samuel Anim-Addo said at the press launch on Thursday. �With the infusion of more celebrities we hope to have a more entertaining event this year and also see whether the entertainers can get one over the footballer this term.� A percentage of the total proceeds will be commited to improving juvenile football in Ghana with the rest going to charity. The annual event which is in its fifth year is the brain child of Goldstar Consult Limited, with the support of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, and it raises funds annually for charity including donations to the Royal Seed Orphanage in Bodwease in Kasoa in the Central region. Some of the big names expected to arrive in the country for the fiesta include Anton Ferdinand of Queens Park Rangers, Emmanuel Adebayor of Tottenham, Stephane Sessegnon of Sunderland, legendary Liberian star George Oppong Weah amongst others. They will join Black Star players, Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan, John Pantsil, Sulley Muntari, John Mensah and a host of others for the event. The fiesta will, however, not only be about footballers as some of the country’s musicians, actors and media personalities such as Kojo Antwi , Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dedes, Kwasey Pees, Funny Faces, Castros, Samini, Kwabena Kwabena will leave their mics and the screens for the football pitch. The event is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium Kumasi on June 24.On the day, there will be two curtain raisers with Kumasi Colts facing Accra Colt while Accra Media will also come face-to-face with Kumasi Media. The main attraction will be when the Black Stars play Music, Movies and Media (MMM) celebrities after the curtain raisers. Preceding the June 24 fiesta will be a star-studded road show on June 23 with all the stars from Accra through Koforidua to Bonsu Junction to Nkawkaw and then to Kumasi. As the country gears up for the 2012 general elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) have pledged their support for the event. The two bodies will use the occasion to deliver a message on the need for political tolerance and peaceful elections in December.
